The Z4 is already paid for and pretty beat to shit. I wouldn't get squat for it, so might as well keep it.

I've always wanted to see what it's like to own a high-falutin' vehicle and well, the market is right. I get it for nearly 20K off MSRP PLUS ridiculous interest rate of 0.49%. So I figured what the hell. The only problem is that it now will affect my motorcycle purchase next year.

You could always sell the z4 for a few bucks and use that towards a bike. It may not be worth a ton but Im guessing you can get a good chunk of the cost of the new bike out of it.

Actually I've been thinking about doing a full mechanical overhaul for the Z4 and give it to my favorite niece who's half way through college.

The car isn't in that great of a shape. The left side is pretty well dinged up from other jackasses drivers. The driver window motor conked out and the paint is well chipped from my many travels.

Anyway, I'm off to sign the deal and pick up the new vehicle.

Pics first thing tomorrow.

Here it is. The red is more subdued than I usually prefer my rides, but it's a luxury coupe and not a race car. It looks rather elegant in this trim. Full leather interior and I mean full leather plus carbon fiber trim. Very little layout of buttons & visible gimmicks - me likey.

It's fast, but it's not visceral fast like, say, my Aprilia.

Oops, fucked up. I didn't look at the pic. The bike to the left of the Tuono is the 2003 Aprilia Mille. There is a half disassembled FJ1200 hidden behind the Aprilias that is my friend's current overhaul project.

Nice ride. If I can make one suggestion-Mount your radar detector permanently.

I used an invisicord.http://invisicord.com/osc2/catalog/index.php?cPath=24

and a visor clip similar to this.http://www.vettemods.com/radarbracket-c6.htm

I'm sure your mirror has some kind of power to it. you just need to find a hot and a ground wire and plug it in. Very easy install. Very neat too.

I like it that way. Clean and uncluttered. It's a car and not a freakin' spaceship. There's no need to have all sorts of crap in it. If it weren't built in, I would not have gotten the GPS system either.

The fucked up thing is that I gotta learn how to use the iDrive in order to play music, use the Bluetooth and all that shits. Maybe I'll just turn all that shits off and just listen to the engine. The hell with fooling around with all the geegaws.

The car is fast but not startlingly fast. It's hard to be impressed with any car's acceleration short of a true drag racer once you've ridden sport bikes.

That's a very nice ride. I've driven one a few times. I like these along with the AMG Mercedes. I work with a few peeps that have these. Only one has this particular car. I've driven more 7 series.

I don't really care for the i-drive system BUT it is more user friendly than when it first came out...you should have experienced them. :panic:

I remember the first time I drove one...the owner wasn't there. I thought WTF !?!?!?!?!?!?....I couldn't even start it and then couldn't get it into gear after I figured out how to start it !!!!:lol: :zowned:

whats this M button ?

Look at the steering wheel picture and on the right spoke, you'll see a button that said "M" on it. It releases the full 500-HP as opposed to the default setting of 400-HP. Stupid feature, but some idiot at BMW thought that it was cool, I suppose. Something to justify the "M" emblem.

z06boy
11-26-2008, 01:41 PM
The "button" seems like a stupid gimmick to me. In the AMG's or the Porsche Turbo cars you just mash the right foot and go.

Don't get me wrong...I like the M car alot overall...wish I could get one...just think this button is sort of well...stupid.

The only really nice thing about this car is that I can pack all my SCUBA gears in the trunk instead of splitting it up between the trunk and the front seat like on the Z.

Well actually if I'm not mistaken it actually had a "valet switch" that could be locked that detuned/limited the car to 250 hp so you could limit the hp for a valet parking your car or anyone else you left it with so they couldn't take it out and dog it or wreck it. To me that's not really a bad idea but just a button that anyone can push ? Come on...I just don't get that at all.

Don't get me wrong...the M6 is a much nicer car but I think the button is a useless gimmick that's all.

I don't really get the power setting swithches on the GSXR's either and now I hear the 09 R1 will have one...*rolling eyes*. :idk:

Nope. It's so the race bikes can have adjustable power mapping and traction control. They can't have it unless the stock bikes have it too.

That's the "in" thing nowadays. Even non race bikes have that shit like the Aprilia Shiver and Mana.

Hey, just because it's there, it doesn't mean that you should use it. But I'm sure that the newbies will be like, "Hey, I can switch it to Map C until I get better and then go to Map A."

Do you know how it is sometimes you just do some shit even though you know that you are not too crazy about it?

It's kinda like that with me and this car and me and the MV Agusta Brutale 910. I knew right away that I don't care much for the I-4 engine even though the bike was prettier than heck. I didn't like the way it handled either. Yet I bought the damn thing anyway and ended up selling it six months later.

It's like that with this car. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty fun romping on the throttle. 500-horsies do some decent damage, but when I take it into the canyons, I can feel the bulk of the car fighting against me and the road. It's not like the Z4. Granted that the M6 is a luxury GT and not a sport car. And I guess I just want to know what it's like to own a very expensive car. Obviously it's not a Bentley Sedan or a Rolls, but its regular MSRP is up there with the cheaper Bentleys, Ferraris and Lambos.

I guess I'm having a bit of a buyer remorse. But I'll just hop on the Aprilia scooter for a short jaunt and Mr. PeePee will be happy again.:rockwoot:

I hear ya. Expensive cars are generally overrated. My M3 was a fully loaded cabriolet. I liked it but in some ways it was rather soulless to own. Living in LA I see a ton of VERY expensive cars and have friends with nice cars. To me, I enjoy being in them but most of the time I find them just okay. One of my closest friends has an SL500. Nice enough car but it really rather boring. Although I did have a friend a few years back who had some great shit, he had a new 355 and a Maranello. Those cars were something else. Personally I have an MGB convertible being built with a new modern suspension and a Ford 5.0 put into it. Cheaper than a fancy new car and cooler to boot. Plus it'll have a lot of character and a ricockulous power/weight ratio (300hp/2000#).

Well, I never claimed to be smart with my money. And yes, it's just a car. A nice one, but just a car to me. You can give me a Rolls Royce convertible and it's still just a car to me.

And no, I can't afford a Ferrari. Maybe a cheaper Ferrari but that means that I must sell all my two-wheelers. NO FUCKING WAY IN HELL!!!

Well, if she doesnt turn you on, keep it on two and use it only for commuting if ya have to. Oh, and picking up chicks drawn to shiny objects.

Ferrari,, but not worth the $ IMO...you can get your car kicks out of way less expensive vehicles...hmmm, maybe demo derby?!

I don't see anything wrong with a bit of buyers remorse even for a 100k car. It is silly to assume that there is always a strong correlation between money and happiness.

You can always look into models that you have really liked and look at buying a slightly used vehicle. Odds are that if it is also a high end vehicle, it will have been well taken care of and you would be getting an equally nice car for a bit cheaper. That is assuming that there are some models you would rather have.

I like the dual maps in my Cayman S - sport is good for enthusiastic driving, but normal is smoother in heavy traffic and parking lots.

That's a little different than what's being discussed here. I don't have a problem with that feature with your car.

The M6 one just let's you decide if you want to ride around with 400 hp or 500 hp I believe and that's kind of crazy to me that's all.

I just don't see a need for it on a sportbike on the street at all.

 You are right about that. :dthumb:

If you can afford the M6 you can afford a ferrari just not a brand new one. Mantaining a ferrari will hurt the wallet alot worse than the BMW though. Ferrari maintanence is definitly not a myth.

The 2000 360 Modena is in that price range. If I'm right that your M6 was about $80000 after your discount.

But I don't want an old Ferrari. I wanted the 360 Modena back then. I don't want it now. Besides, I seriously doubt that I would consider taking that car for anything but a day trip. Cross country trip is out of the question on a Ferrari unless you're a millionaire and can afford a tow job when in the middle of bum fuck egypt.

I know but I was just pointing out that a 308 wouldn't have been your only option. BTW I love your car and I would be happy with it. I know your not a car guy and don't really care but I'm not sure if you can find one car that can do everything you want to do with a car.

I don't remember where it is but there is a website that list the cost of owning a used Ferrari. I think it was posted on CF before. It wasn't cheap from what I remember.

BTW I think a Cayman S would have been a fun car for him but wouldn't have the interior space of they M6.

That daycare price doesn't seem to be way out of line. It would be about $800 for one child around here.

Oh - I agree, cost doesnt cover everything. There are things that lower price daycares may not have - like liability insurance for one.

I almost wonder how much more above 1200/mo one would have to go to get to the "nanny" pricepoint.

It depends.

A nanny I know is paid about $60k/ year + car + living quarters + travel.

OTOH, some friends of ours pay their lady (nanny / housekeeper / cook) $350/wk. She lives with them and has no car.

The difference bewteen an educated, attractive and licensed WASP and a poor, illegal willing to work for a place to live.

I think a ferrari would be an awesome car to own for one year enjoy and then sell. If you buy a used ferrari you could probably sell it for close to what you payed for it chalk up any maintinence costs during said year as the price of alot of fun and in the process you could certainly have two chicks at the same time.

I was wrong (it had to happen sometime) Its about $550 here for one child. But they can go way up from there. We have a big ass one here that is $1000 per child. I hear in Quebec its $7 a day per child. Its regulated by the government.

That's right! My wife was going to quit her job to raise our son, but I have little job security w/ good pay. She has great job security (govt. agency) w/ OK pay.

We decided that maintining diversification of income sources is important in this economy, but we didn't want to sacrifice our child's care.
