I bought an AR-15 kit in a group purchase. This was my first attempt to build one but it seemed to come out just fine. It really wasn't that hard...just several very small pins and springs that looked similar but weren't.

And I have that same husky tool set.

I can tell you that the Husky tool set was $$ well spent. I've used it for quite a while in many situations...I like it alot.

Same here especially since it was relatively cheap for how many tools are in it.

You made sure that you have the headspace done correctly, right?
Amorok
11-26-2008, 03:08 PM
Excellent. Ditto on guaging the headspace, worst case it kills the gun, best case you have lots of malfunctions from dirt in the blowback.
looks like the barrel was set from the factory. not an issue

You are correct.
heh my last war carbine's barrel was so loose it had an inch of left-right play! i re-set it with slighty ;) overtight clearances and it would put three shot groups in the same hole easy. btw, my former co gave me a free hand to modify the rifles of the company as long as i made no permanant changes :D
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b369/Khajjathefang/DSCN0111.jpg
removed burst claw, added titanium firing pin (ZERO slam fires for me thank you very much) pachmeyr grip, eotech, extended bolt release, extended bolt catch, ace skeleton stock (perfect length with my armor on and much more durable for hitting people with) and a ak-74 style muzzle brake (huge signature. but our acu's dont match a goddamn thing so hiding is out. amazing amount of muzzle control though and a must for automatic support fire) oh yeah, and i used hk mags exclusively. i kinda miss that carbine. might have to build a legal replica someday. fucker was accurate, and FAST as fuck. im talking target aquisition and servicing not rpm here ;)

Good call. My 9 is generally inadequate in zombie situations.

Good call. My 9 is generally inadequate in zombie situations.
Not necessarily... It'd be good for close quarters zombat (zombie combat)... Not the best option for rooftop plinkage.
My next gun purchase is probably going to be one of those little tachtical shotguns cause they're super cool, pretty cheap, and with buckshot are good for incapacitating multilple zombies at close range.
Like I said though... I am interested in some sort of a assault rifle though...

Yes I saved some $$$ this way plus learning a little more about how the thing actually works.
A friend of mine which is a member here does this as a hobby and got me interested so I decided to give it a shot and I'm glad I did. :rockout:

I'm "in line" for an Armalite lower.
I've seen some on the auction sites, but most seem to be used and are overpriced. I'll just wait it out.

I was able to get Olympics at 135 annd 140 I can still get some Yankee Hill Machines at 135. I know everyone likes the ABC, Armalite, Bushmaster, and Colt in the past 7 years of buliding AR I don't find the vaule beyond bragging rights.
BTW as far as what is for I have used my CAR to pop critters in the yard including Coyotes, Porkypines and wood chucks here is one of my Home rolled.
RRA 2 Stage trigger, Shaw Fluted 16'' Barrel, YHM Railed Light Weight Free Floating Forestock Stag Left Handed Upper Reciever and Bolt Hogue Grip , Gemtech Halo Can, ATN Palidin Series Night Scope.
As for what I do with it? Just like having a bike that goes over 75mph .. I have fun with it
BTW Z06 once you start building ARs you find out they are like potato chips (or motorcycles) you cant have just one

552, its the night vision/AA battery model. and theres really no comparison. eotech is hands down the better sight. i'll have to see if i can find it but theres a vid somewhere of me and one of my counterparts firing auto at night. damn compensator puts out a three foot fireball!

I think we should keep this going so here is one of my ghost of winters past
Using an matched 0lympic upper and lower a 24 inch Fluted Douglas barrel, RRA 2 stage trigger, (polished well cause I have a dremel) houge grip 2 inch stock extension with 6 to 18 glass on top. Will routinely hold a 1/4minute of angle at 300 yard with 72 grain hand load. Just because you may have to reach out and "touch" Someone

My guess:
the showing off doesnt end at the range... it always contines online where people take pics and say "look where I got." Usually posting the same "look at me" post in several differnt forum-based websites. ;)
Im sure if we wait a couple more weeks "z06boy ar-15" will be indexed into google to include those shots. ;)

Nice!! Kudos to a for putting it together yourself! I now what ya mean, I like to do the same with my own toys. And those are so much fun to shoot!
FYI for a few of those that asked, it may just be a southern thing, but ever since Obama won the election, there is NO gun shop that can keep these guns in stock. And the prices have jumped at least a couple hundred bucks as well. I know its most likely overkill, but alot of people got very concerned about where things may go when he reaches office, and are stocking up on ammo and guns as fast as they come into the stores.
And I am sure they are also preparing for the zombie invasion!

WTF are you talking about meathead ? I posted this because it is the first time I've ever attempted to put together something like this myself and yes I'm proud of the end result. Another member here prompted me to take on this task since we're both gun enthusiast and he loaned me some tools to make it go a little easier and I appreciate it quite a bit.
I've seen other gun related post here and knew that some here could appreciate it...same with a couple more bikes sites and a cage related site or two that I frequent.
On another note I served in the Marines and carried an M-16 for a few years and have wanted an AR but never ponied up the $$ to purchase one so by buying a kit in a group purchase I saved a few bucks and also actually learned something. :idk:
I also have worked in executive protection and been a personal driver for over 20 years for 3 different Chairman and CEO's of one of the largest corporations in the world and am used to being around people that enjoy this type stuff...sorry if you don't but you can go f*ck yourself with your response here.
To the rest of you that enjoyed the pic and can appreciate doing things yourself in an attempt to learn something...thanks for the positive comments.
To the others that don't like this type stuff and just skipped over the thread and kept your comments to yourself like I do when I see something I don't care about...thanks to you as well.
Happy Friday everyone.:rockout:

Thanks and I agree with the Obama buying frenzy...it's gotten crazy. I sometimes wonder if it's also fueled by some of the gun/ammo dealers that feed some of the fear to drive up their sales. :idk:
Like I mentioned in my above rant ...I've wanted one for awhile and saw a group purchase for the kit and it was right around election time so I guess I was guilty myself on the timing..."oh I better buy one now!"

I looked at several for different prices but this particular one was $599 shipped plus another member here got me a deal on a stripped lower for $105 and I added a RRA 2-stage match trigger for $88 and a low profile rear site for $10.
I didn't have to add the trigger upgrade or the rear site upgrade but wanted to. :dthumb:

Ed, did you ever get a kit and finish the build? I ordered a Del-Ton kit but the wait is ~6 months. Supposedly, there's a shortage of barrels on top of the high demand. : (
