PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WSVN) -- An elementary school boy is accused of robbing another classmate at knife point on Tuesday.

According to school officials, a 7-year-old boy attacked a 6-year-old classmate in the school bathroom located at Pines Lakes Elementary at 10300 Johnson St. in Pembroke Pines.

Officials said the boy used a butter knife that he likely brought from home. The boy stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the other student. "Very scary that is happening here at the school, especially at that age and i don't know where the parents are," said Maureen Warmack, a worried parent. "All of Broward this is happening, all over the school, so they need to do something about it."

This case was handed over to the State Attorney's Office. It remains unknown whether any charges will be filed against the boy.

That is just fucking crazy. Where did a six year old get cash? If I had more than two quarters I thought I was the wealthiest man alive.

If I had more than two quarters I thought I was the wealthiest man alive. My kid's been going to school with lunch money since kindergarten. Granted was only 1.25 and now up to 1.90 this year. Some parents send their kid with money for the whole week so maybe he had 5 bucks or something, but like someone else said....at that age 50 cents seems like a million bucks so maybe the kid doing the robbing thought he hit the jackpot.

People always say, "Back in the day, this never used to happen." It did. You just never heard about it. How often did the media talk about what happened in some podunk Iowa town when you were a kid? Now it's headlining the national news.

People also say that things like Columbine never happened when they were kids. They did. How many of you here have ever heard the name Michael Slobodian? Back in 1975 he walked into a school, that was a few miles away from my house, with a guitar case full of daddy's guns and started shooting the place up. Our Premier's daughter was in the school at the time. That's like your Governor's kid being there. He killed 2 and wounded a dozen or more, then capped himself.

But I bet that you've never heard of it. Most Canadians I ask haven't.

The point is that the world hasn't really changed much from "the old days", but media has.

VERY true... these things happened back then... shit I brought a bag of fireworks and M-80's to school and sold them to my friends when I was in 5th grade... thought it was cool... some douche bag decided to do the same... and lit one off as he got off the school bus after school and then pointed the finger at me. I got a two week suspenson... and an ass whoop'n from my dad I'll remember into my next lifetime. didn't even make the town paper... no need... it was just stupid kid stuff... yes the results could have been horrible if the right sequence of events happened with a 5th grader and an M-80... but it didn't... and I learned my lesson.

but I think because of the media attention... they're happening more. shit after columbine there were several arrests in Oregon and washington after students claimed they felt like pulling a columbine... not saying that those feelings weren't their before or wouldn't be there with out the media... but the media helps spread ideas.

I think the same goes for war. had WWII had the same amount of media coverage as the gulf war or shit... even Viet Nam... it wouldn't have been nearly as successful... can you imagine live broadcasts from Omaha beach? or from Iwo Jima?

Media is a powerfull tool... and with the amount of tv that's watched my people today... it's 100x more powerful than it was back even in the 80's
