All I have now is a benelli nova 12ga. 3.5in chamber. I go goose and duck hunting as much as possible during the winter.

I really want to get a long range rifle (sniper style, not big game hunting), an AK47, and a pistol at some point though. pistol will probably be first once I turn 21 and can get my concealed carry license.

Which one feels more comfortable in your hand??? Thats the one you should get. Because when it comes right down to it, you are going to want to be able to use it accurately and quickly when the time comes to use it. Go to a range the rents them and fire them both. Then decide. They are both just as deadly as one another so it is all about how it feels in your hand. And once you get the one you want practice, practice, practice. You need to be very proficient in getting the safety off, clearing a jam if you have one... Remember, it only takes someone a second or 2 to travel the distance of any room in your house and if you hesitate, it could be game over.

.22 Ruger Mark II Pistol w/ red dot sight
.32 Taurus 246 Revolver

.22 Ruger 10/22 Carbine rifle w/ purple (yes purple!) thumbhole stock
.22 Ruger Ninety-Six lever rifle

and
I don't remember what the black powder long gun I have is. I just know one of these days i need to pull it out of the safe and have it refinished.

I use the Mark II for the pistol league I'm in and the 10/22 for the rifle league. I haven't fired the Taurus or the Ninety-Six yet. The black powder is more of an heirloom but it was fired by grandpa before he passed. Actually, all but one of these guns came from my grandpa. The Taurus was my grandma's :). Hoowever, he didn't have the red dot sight on the pistol or the purple stock on the rifle.

There's a gun shop here that has an indoor range and lets you rent any gun in the place for $10 (I imagine ammo is not included). I'll be going there in 1 1/2 weeks.

Okay- wikied the M4 and found this:
The United States Marine Corps has ordered its officers (up to the rank of lieutenant colonel) and SNCOs to carry the M4 carbine instead of the M9 Beretta pistol. This is in recognition that pistols are largely useless in current conflicts, and is in line with the Marine Corps phrase, "Every Marine a rifleman." United States Navy corpsmen will also be issued M4s instead of the M9, according to the Marine Corps Times

agreed, accuracy is alright but the rest of it is pure garbage. direct impingement gas systems do nothing but shit carbon and heat into the chamber and then we have the separated bolt and charger thats just asking to create jams for no fucking reason, an extremely awkward sight layout that requires you to do elevation before windage, a heavy steel firing pin that will slamfire in very few chamberings, a cumbersome spring and buffer layout, cheap stamped steel mags that bend easily and shit their contents into the chamber and lets not forget some completely non abidexterous controls. the ar-15 rifles and derivatives were a mistake in the sixties and should have been retired as soon as the ar-18 was made available. in fact many current allied battle rifles are BASED on the highly reliable ar-18 action (g36, k1, l82, type 89, etc) anyway, what im saying is that the army no buying us the M8 is killing joes and that if eugene stoner were still alive id kick the motherfucker square in the balls for that aluminum pile of crap he saddled us with

spiffy not matching anything uniforms with super awesome giving my position away velcro and ir tabs. why be tactical when we can try to be trendy? clearly my life in the field is worth less than some dickface's recruitment numbers. i sincerely miss the days when the army had real enemys and focused on keeping the 10-20% of the army that actually FIGHTS sharp. is it any wonder that i bought my ghillie from the RUSSIANS?
Wow, we are tracking tighter than head space and timing alowances!!

*laymans terms* Im with you bro!

Ruger 10/22 Yes, and it's seriously fun to shoot! (AND CHEAP)

Edit: It's got a 20" bull barrel. Carbine is 18" right?
