I decided it was time to bring my home build system current as a small xmas present to myself. I don't really game on the PC anymore so I saved myself tons of money on not getting a TOL video card and ultra fast memory.
For the nerds - Just ordered the following:
Asus P5QL PRO (Intel Socket LGA 775, FSB1333[OC to 1600], North/South bridge both Intel [P43 & ICH10])
Intel Core 2 Duo (3.0GHz, 6mb L2 cache, Matching FSB to mobo, Wolfdale core)
Ultra nerdy cooling fan for proc
2GB of G.Skill Dual Channel DDR2 1066
WD 640G 7200RPM SATA drive 3.0Gb/s
EVGA GeForce 9800GT (512)
Vista Premium
I'll be using my same tower, power supply and cooling units. It's not a super gaming powerhouse (easily upgradeable to however), but should be a solid fast system to run Vista with.

Guilty. But way cheaper, faster and more stable than buying a pre-fab system.

Yep! :lmao: What she said!!

I don't mind Vista so much. K-Trix had to kind of walk me through it when I first got my laptop but now I'm fine with it.

:lmao: I may be agreeing with you. I've been hearing such conflicting stories about Vista I decided to give it a try myself. Some love it and some hate it - we'll see.
I still have my XP Pro install that I can use if I decide I hate it.

Not bad....except of the Vista part.
I keep an XP disc at home for re-formats or rebuilds....My wife had Vista on her laptop....it didn't last the first day.
It's rubbish...particularly if you use your rig as a gaming platform.

Ok the new system is up with all the new components and is running fine with Vista.
Btw I wound up putting in 4GB of the G.Skill DDR2.
Windows Performance index rating is as such:
Proc: 5.6
Memory: 5.9
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming Graphics: 5.9
Hard disk: 5.9
Should be all set - Vista is purring like a cat. I have had to turn off some of the annoying shit that's on by default however. The 'user protection' tool that comes up whenever something executes was irritating as hell.
