- how much do u think it would cost to PC the rearsets black? ballpark? would this even look good by itself?

- how much does a rear seat cowl cost? <--- OK nvm I got off my ass and looked

- what are common suspension mods? how hard is that shit to do? will i even notice the difference?

- how much mileage should u get out of the stock tires? (whats a good replacement?)
(the one that I'm thinking about buying has 6600 miles on it, stock tires I'm pretty sure, so should I replace em)

- should I just dremel off the fugly fender?

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/mcy/589939856.html
This is what I'm looking at... what do u think is a fair price? honestly I could pay their asking price without much trouble but I'd like to get a deal just so I feel good about it  I already have gear, helmet, etc. should I ask for a new tire mounted or something? or a couple hundred off?

Dude, I answered these in the other thread already.

PC... i have no idea on cost... looks... should look ok.

seat cowl... $70 ish on ebay

suspension mods. most popular is GSXR front forks and either penske or ohlins rear shock. no clue on difficulty, and it should make a great deal of difference if you are doing any amount of twisty riding, or track.

Stock tires... depends on HOW you ride.
Rear, about 8-9K
Front, about 12-13K
That's what I'm seeing at least.
Just check out the tires and see how close to the wear bars they are.

For the fender... yeah, just dremel it.

Offer 'em 4K, see what they say. Or check it out and if it needs tires, negotiate the tires you want into the deal. mounted and balanced of course.

I know... yelled at him, and he still won't answer you here... selfish bitch... :ps:

As for wear
all tires (except slicks) have wear bars.
If the tread is even with the wear bar, replace it
If they are majorly squared, replace 'em
OR for track junkies... if the sides are shot and the center is good... commute on 'em, but don't push the corners! :dthumb:

cheap suspension upgrade - I redid the fork internals and put a heavier weight fork oil and put a 04 gsxr 1000 rear shock on it.

Great suspension upgrade - ak fork carts and a triple clicker penske or ohlins

gsxr front end is popular too.

tire wear - check the wear bars dude...

9K ???? What do you ride, a geezer wing? My stock tires are at 7k and they're toast.

The front is still original at 10K
The rear has about 5 on it now... should get another 2.

it's the dunflop 208... and not many twisties, just wheelies

I went to indianapolis ducati today, luckily it didnt snow. After drooling over 1098s for a bit I saw the SV650s i came to see. Its pretty much what I expected. Its in good condition, no scratches, dents. I didn't start it up or test ride it unfortunately because it was in the showroom and it was freezing outside.
The rear tire was pretty much a square, and the chain was a bit rusty. I pointed that out and the salesman talked to maintenance and came back and told me that they'd be replacing the rear tire (for free), and cleaning the chain, replace it if necessary. Salesman said they did a checkup on it for an hour or two, checked all major things. The old owner traded it in on a Duc GT1000. Apparently he was a younger guy, used this bike as a commuter. (But he can't be as young as me... if he's buying a ducati). well anyways it looks decently cared for.

my fucking camera died, its a complete piece of mother fucking shit.. so no pictures of the SV or sexy ducatis. I only managed a few on my phone's [worthless] camera. here's the link with a few low res pics.

http://images.craigslist.org/010103011502010403200802283d9fe39716015255e0006d4a .jpg

Salesman said he'd email me more pics tomorrow.

The listed price is $4475. Add something like 100 dollars in fees (title maybe? i didnt ask). and then another 285 or so in taxes. but since im out of state i wouldnt pay that. (so So here is another question:
If i buy a bike at a dealer in indiana, when do I pay sales tax? when I register it or what? I'm confused as hell on this since I've never bought a bike used.
I didn't talk price with him at all except to get the asking price.

It comes out to 4575 OTD (then after that I pay taxes). With a new rear tire, don't know which one.
What should I offer? by the way, its been sitting in the dealer for about 3 weeks, so not a real long time.

Another thing for people that have had SVs. I noticed when I turned the key (didn't start the engine) that the word "CHEC" showed up on the display. This is just the standard "check oil cuz the bike isnt started yet" warning right? kthx

The check is normal. Looks pretty clean. Low ball em and work your way up.

PC rearsets... $25-40 each.

Suspension - .95k springs and emulators in the forks w/20 wt oil.
I did a gsxr 750 rear shock.

Yes you will know the difference, will ride like a brand new bike.

I would tell them $4k out the door. You can buy them all day long at that price.

I got 12000 miles off of my stock tires, including a slab trip to San Antonio from Knoxville, TN.

The chec is normal... the kill switch was probably not in the "run" position.
You will pay all the taxes when you go in to register the bike.
If they already said they would put on a new tire, you should see if you can pick the tire, otherwise they will probalby put on a stock tire, and the dunlops suck!

Chain def. looks neglected.

Crazy
03-11-2008, 01:38 PM
Salesman said they will clean/ lube the chain, and replace it if necessary.

according to him it could have been rusty because someone washed the bike and didnt lube the chain... or something like that.

Thats alot of washing if thats the case. They'd better replace that.

The bike will have a brand new rear tire included/installed in sale price, no extra charge. OEM or compatible replacement…we won’t be putting a $300 pilot power on itJ

Also the chain will be lubed and adjusted.

$4475 bike
$99 doc fees
Total price is $4574.00

speaking of bullshit, how much of that $99 doc fee is bullshit?

I have no idea what to offer. I'm thinking I'll ask him for $4200 OTD. I'd be totally fine with 4300 otd... the tax is killing the deal a bit but whatever i guess its not a bad deal and itd be nice to finally have a bike...

so should i say 4200?

Its not low balling... but this is a fucking ducati dealer, its getting to be spring, and they are throwing in a tire. I dont think i have much room to move.

I think you are wrong on that one... look at the links further forward...

DO NOT let them put the stock Dunlop back on that bike
THEY SUCK DONKEY BALLS

I'd say, offer $4200 w/new chain and rear tire (pilot road/power or similar of what they carry) OTD.
See how they come back.
and if they are changing the chain, check the wear on the sprockets... if they are worn, a new chain is a moot point.

As for the Doc fee... every place is gonna charge a doc fee, it will vary from shop to shop. Some will wave it if you push the issue, some won't.
It's to cover the costs of all the documents, and the cost of filing them.

Other than that, don't look too bad.

Crazy
03-12-2008, 08:26 PM
Update: I offered 4200...I got them to waive the doc fee...but it will still be 4475 OTD.

thats with a stock tire put on. I asked if I could pay the difference for a better tire... he said he wasnt sure, but they already ordered the stock to replace it, so he might not be able to... but if it doesnt get in by friday, and I go to pick it up they might let me get another tire.

IF they do, what should I put on there? something reasonably priced (I dont want to pay much more than $50 over stock) and decent for sport riding (mostly in town, some twisties, prolly no track)

at this point tho... I'm pretty much ready to go with this one. I'm getting tired as hell looking, all the other options I've seen aren't priced much better, and its getting warm so I want a bike to ride over spring break (next week).

I put the deposit down today... my plan is to go out there on Friday, test ride, inspect it more, and if everything looks good, drop the cash and bring her home.

Cutty72
03-12-2008, 08:33 PM
what type of riding are you planning on doing??

mostly twisties, go for a
-pilot power
-corsa 3
-m3

more touring, go for a
-pilot road
-strada

Remember, the front is still a stock dunlop 208, a sport touring tire... i got over 10K on mine...

But good job and congrats!!! BOUT TIME!!!!!!

The Diablo Strada and Pilot Road are good suggestions. BT020 is the same type tire. I got 7k+ (still going) on mine.

Don't worry so much about whats on the rear if you are keeping the stock front. Just let them throw the 208 on there.....wear it out this year and replace both. Good score.

If ya put alot of miles on your bike like i do and still want a good tire that wont wear out to fast i would recommend Michelin Pilot Roads i get about 13,000 miles out of my last rear tire.
I have 22,500 miles on my 06 sv650 sofar:)
