Well my Dell Inspirion 1721 has crashed and burned again! First,it was the motherboard,Dell gave me a new laptop over that. Then it was the hard drive, too bad my dumbass didn't have my shit backed up! Now it looks like the lacd screen has gone to hell! Well,it's either that or the inverter but I'm guessing it's the screen. Oh well,I guess I'll be post whoring from my PS3,like I am now,my PSP (fat chance!),or my computer in my bedroom which is slower than shit! Grrrr!!! FUCKING DELL !!!!:panic:

At least my PS3 works reasonably well...

Hey, that sucks man...

I've had a Dell E1505 for almost 2 and a half years. Let me tell ya, I've had to dump more money into this thing than I ever should have.... but fuck, this laptop has been through hell and back. Its been dropped down yacht stairs... which cracked the LCD like a spider web. Its had a ladder fall on it from 8 feet, which cracked the plastic and bent the fan... which made a horrific sound until I could get in and unbend the fan. My roommate spilled Pepsi all in the keyboard, as well as my dog popping off 4 keys permanently.... :zowned:

I'm on...
-Hard Drive #2.... free
-LCD Screen #2.... $230, installed myself
-Battery #2.... $160, (10 cell)
-Power Cord #3.... paid $50 for #2, ganked #3 from OSU,
-Keyboard #2 is on the way... $30

Whats your plan???

Sorry, but it's not Dell. My Sony Vaio's motherboard ate itself. Of the six laptops in my house, my Dell's have been the most reliable. Though, it seems the old brick ones are almost bulletproof. Not so sure about the more recent :idk:

My Dell laptops have always performed well. Other than the occasional HD failure, I've gone through 2 laptops in 8 years with no issues. That includes hauling them around on the motorcycle in tailbags and backpacks. Both of them were Inspirons, 1300(?) and the 6000 that I am on right now.

I have the big deal warranty so I'm covered,I'm just sick of the BS involved with dealing with them! I was on the phone with "Bob" who was obviously from India, while he had me dismantle my laptop during the course of a one hour phone call. I'm like'"what happened to in home service or my exchange plan?". I mean if I wanted to work on my own computers,I wouldn't have dropped $300 on a warranty! Antway, supposedly the big boss is going to call me tomorrow and we'll see what he says. Oh and my old Dell is a 1505 which has been dropped, thrown and otherwise abused and other than a cracked screen and a few missing buttons,it works great. Although,it seems a bit slow now that I'm used to the faster processor, larger ram and the dual core of the new unit. I have it plugged into my LCD tv in the bedroom and I have a wireless keyboard hooked to it. Ay least I won't have to miss any Adult Swim or new YouPorn... At least now I have a use for the stupid bluetooth keyboard I bought for my PS3...

My Vaio laptop has been going strong for 2 years and my Vaio desktop for 3+. I don't do any crazy shit, just surf the web and e-mail. Upload pics and download music from time to time. I probably have more of a computer than I actually need but I'm not gonna complain. I got this laptop (which we use as our primary comp) for $400 off because it was an open box. Got it for under $800.

Same here, Ive been beating on my inspiron 600m for almost 4 years now and it still works with no issues. It puts up a fight every once in a while but thats about it, and I can usually get it straightened out pretty easily.

wait until you have to call tech support...

My old IBM ThinkPad X30 is still ticking flawlessly after almost 5 years. The real "trick" to long laptop use is to:

a) Not Drop it regularly
b) Get the best (i.e. best physical damage protection) laptop bag/case money can buy
c) Not spill liquids into it
d) ALL OF THE ABOVE

Just in case you weren't paying attention - the correct answer is D... :idk:

If you have random pockets of locally heavy gravity in your vicinity, get one of the 'hardened'/MilSpec laptops from Panasonic, et. al. YMMV...

Those ToughBooks are pretty damn nice...

Anyways, back to Dell.

I can't complian, they do their job and honestly if I had to choose between HP basic tech support and Dell basic tech support, I'd choose Dell.

Dell's are good for general use systems.....

But on servers and what not (i know this was about laptops) I'd go HP all-day-long.

I, and 5 other guys, ARE Dell tech support on campus. All repairs to these models are done in-house. I'm a certified tech for Latitude, Optiplex, and Precision systems. Since going to Dell we've had far fewer problems.

The Latitude and Precision notebooks take a fair bit more abuse than do the Inspirons. Odd, since most home users are far more abusive of equipment than are corporate users, in my experience.

I do know that Sony Vaio's don't like coffee in the keyboard.

Now I have a Compaq. and coffee is not anywhere near this one
