View Full Version : How many with ipods here?

I'm the first one to say at first I thought ipods were stupid. I didn't like the idea of DRMS and itunes, nor did I like the thought of this tiny, fragile piece of plastic that costs 400 dollars.
That all changed a few years ago when my wife bought me an 80 gig for fathers day.
I'm reformed.
I fucking love my ipod.
It's pretty much eliminated the radio all together. I had quite a few CD's to begin with. After the hours of uploading these to itunes, and the new stuff I've d/led I don't need the radio at all. If this one broke, I would buy another immediately.
Anyone else?

I've got a 5th generation iPod video (60 gig i think) and I leave it in the car. With the exception of one talk show, anytime I'm driving, the iPod is playing. It's been indispensable.

Ive got a nano, I reluctantly purchased after my original ipod clusterfuck. The nano appears pretty stable with the flash.
Had 5 GEN 3 ipods returned in a matter of 6 months- one of which only ran for 30 min - resulting in a complaint to apple and a refund of my original purchase price.

I have a 60g regular and the video 8g nano. Only time I use the nano is when I'm working out - the regular ipod has been sitting in a drawer for a couple of years.

I have a 15gb that's about 5 years old. The battery is done in it, but I put a stereo in my car that will charge/run the iPod, so it stays in my car. I rarely listen to the radio anymore.
I won an 8gb Nano about a month ago, and I gave that one to Carolina as the one she has was a 1gb and wouldn't hold much.
My iPhone is 8gb, and I've used the iPod part of it a few times.

I've always hated iPod, you pay more than their worth for what you get and iTunes is a pain in the ass. Then I needed something with more than 20 gigs so I bought the new classic. While I still think they're overpriced and iTunes is still a bullshit program, I have to admit a growing love for the unit itself. Small, convenient, and easy to use, it's replaced my radio. If anybody has a small nano they'd like to get rid of let me know, I need one for running.

I am an iPod fanatic. I got the 2nd gen nano a year ago, and I've not turned the radio on in my truck since. It has gone on several vacations. I ride with it ocassionally.
AND... My wife just got me the 32GB iPod touch. This little thing is amazing!!! The games are cool. You can listen to your own music while playing them. It has a built in speaker so there's no need for earplugs all the time.
I've downloaded some cartoons for my daughter when we are in the truck. No more getting the portable DVD player out and plugged in. I just hand her the iPod.
And I'm a reader. I've downloaded about 50 books. The reader is cool. It scrolls the words as you read. You can tilt the iPod to control the speed of the text. So I have a virtual library with me all the time.

I bought a first gen. nano a number of years ago. I think it's only 4 gig and it has served me very well. When I used to run with music it was great. I listened to it on the train every day when I lived in London.
Last week after many years of use and many beatings later it's finally gone for a shit. It still works but I can't use the back button so it's only on shuffle.
I asked Santa for a new one.
I got a Nano. Not the latest one, but the one previous to it. The short, fat one. I love it. I tried an ipod touch and wasn't a fan of the big size. And itunes is just as good. I have the Bose Companion 3 computer speakers and they fill up the room with great sound for when I have parties or just want to jam.

So... currently, 1st gen iTouch, 16gig. LOVE it. Have a pos sandisk that i picked up from woot.com for like $20 for jackin around and motorcycling.

due to the software and early issues i chose to go third party. i have an 8 gig sony walkman. flat and skinny, it fits the little change pockets in jeans like a champ and the jack is on the same side as the controls so its perfect for riding.i just stick it in there upside down and i can shuffle to my hearts content.

i got a 4gig nano, want a bigger one. its got 900+songs on it, and i cant fit anymore..but i have another 4-5gigs of music:panic:
as much as i like it, if i buy another one itll be a creative mp3 player probably, instead of a ipod. its made the way a ipod shoulda been made, with expandable memory via micro sd cards, & plays video. if i could add 8-16gigs to my current ipod, i'd keep it. but apple wants money so they didnt do it that way. business wise makes sense, but it sucks for the buyer.
pandora is the shit, but sometimes i wana hear specific songs, and the ipod wins. hooks up to my surround sound easy too

I will admit... it is fabulous marketing by all three companies... especially Ipod, to be the first product bought to mind when you say music player. Or energy drink.. you think Red Bull...
BUT at the time I bought my Zune, you had to look at the facts. The Zune outright demolished the then Ipod video. Now i will say the new Ipod touch beats the new Zune based on the internet capabilities of the Ipod.
Redbull tastes like crap and is so expensive for the tiny little can. Upgrade and go with something cheap and large... like Rockstar Orange... or Jolt.
Starbucks is ok, but Its too expensive and I like Carabou better....

Try Tiger Direct. I have a little 1 gig MP3 Player I used all the time for around $15. Copy and paste, none of that itunes crap. It works great and I've never had an issue with it. I liked it so much that when I decided to get another for more storage, I went with the same one. Has a USB connector at the end of it so I don't need any USB cords. Plug and play like a mo-fo. I found a 4G for $25 :dthumb:
I don't need a big expensive ipod. I'm perfectly happy with a cheaper MP3 player. It does what I need it to do, functions well...has buttons I can manage through gloves when I'm riding and seems to be pretty bullet proof. :) My son has one just like it except it's a smaller gig. His dad ran over my son's with a truck and all it did was crack the screen and it still works. :rockout:
Oh yeah...they work well for a flash drive too. ;)

I picked up a cheap little 1g a year ago for the gym. It had a clip on it which was nice. It looked something like that mini ipod. The only thing I didn't like is it didn't have a screen and you couldn't set up play list. Play list would have been nice because I let my wife use it when she went to the gym. We both had songs on it that the other didn't really want to hear so that was a little bit of a pain. If I can't find that or my MiniDisc then I might pick up another one. Or i will just keep using my Treo.

I would like to find it because we might be getting a storm tomorrow night which have me in a machine for 10-15 hours. I need my music. And i had some good stuff on that player. i hated the original ipods, avoided them and itunes forever. had 1 or 2 off-brand players that used microdrives (expensive, slow and moving parts break easily) and then the first flash drives that were 1" squares (much cheaper , faster, indestructable) this was sweet because it was basically an external hardrive and all i had to do was drag and drop mp3 files. so easy.
that i think eventually broke and an ex bought for me a 4g nano. this this is pretty cool i must admit, and itunes has gotten better over the years. its size and weight are nice, but i really only use it when i know i am riding more than 5 minutes. i cant even use it at the gym because i have abnormally large ear canals and even after market large sized silicone buds wont keep the damn things in my ears. on that note, one of them i lost riding and i havent used it in months. any advice ?

Search around. I know there are quite a few of those types of places around. I think you may find some ideas if you lurk around some audio forums. Hell, I think I saw http://earplugstore.com/custom/custom_molded.htm on a few different touring boards. I know someone on CF had mentioned doing something similar but fuck if I remember who it was.

Just bought an iPod... My Creative Zen crapped the bed... 3rd time in 2 years. I have had it replaced 2x, once because the control stick broke, and once because it just shut down and wouldn't come back on. I like the new nano... with the random "shake" and the genius.

$22.95/month gets me two audio books, and I always have one running.
