Have an old skool 6.1 Sony, w/ a 5 disc sony DVD/SACD player. I just haven't replaced the speakers yet - have some old skool Infinity RS 3001 bookshelf speakers that I'll be moving to the office, along with the receiver, god those speakers sound awesome for their age. Not quite settled on what I'm replacing the sound system with.

Well Im a Firm Beleiver in Brands being better than others...Samsung makes a Nice TV and thats what Vator has...Hitachi has never been Known for high Class Sets...So I think you would see a improvment going from Hitachi to Sony.

I'm looking at this

Correct. My set cost $1700. Not bad for a 65 in. DLP. However, price ruled over extreme quality for me. Just like sound systems, there is a breakpoint where every $ you spend on quality is not noticeable to the layman eye or ear. Hell, I lost 20% of my upper range hearing in the Navy (and Rock concerts) It just need to be loud for me anymore.

the picture if you're dead-on looks good. but you start get serious darkness (IMHO) when you start viewing at angles (if you hvae a big room w/ not "optimal" seating it'll affect you).

My rear-pro LCD IMHO has better viewing angles, not quite as wide as Plasma or flat LCD... but still relaly good.

Color on mine is fantastic with very satisfying blacks (of course nothing will quite match a plasma for black) but I think it's a damn good bang-for-your-buck..... Now the higher end LCD's/Plasmas are coming down in price, so they're going to be obsolete.

It depends on the ambient lighting.

I have a 65" Mitsubishi DLP.

In my old house I could view it from just about any angle becasue there was no direct sunlight to affect it.

In the current set up, the daytime view-ability is less than the 42" LCD it replaced because the DLP is near the windows. Once beyond about 60* from center, it is harder to see things like the game clock during sporting events.

Nighttime there is no noticeable difference.

The DLP 1080i Picture is FUCKING AMAZING! ! ! !

Up to 300Hz refresh, 8 Millisecond Pixel response rate, 16.5MILLION colors (6TRILLION in the 3 chip sets)

Glare from a Window really screws with the picture(lightness wise)
*Think phone screen in the sun light*
Other then that, i fucking love it! ! ! ! !

I think the LED models are supposed to "look" better:idk:

It's different now... The PC faces the right way and resides on an old end table that I hacked the legs off of and painted black... The TV sits on it and it sets on the center section of the entertainment center. Plus I have an Xbox 360 now...

Specs:

Samsung 1080p 46" TV
Sony 800W 5-disc DVD changer w/ surround
custom PC w/ wireless keyboard and mouse
Xbox 360 Elite
modded Xbox
PS2
old EQ mostly cause it's got flashing lights and fills a shelf
plus the cable modem and wireless router for cool flashing lights

Every time i've seen one both in store (okay so that's not a great example) or in someone's home (okay so i've only seen like 3 in peoples homes) I always saw a very large difference in viewing angles.

I guess Your Viewing Angle May Very *shrugs*
