First accident in 7 years.

was traveling east bound from my house when a lady who was looking at the light instead of the road pulled out from a walgreens, shot across 3 lanes of traffic and i clipped her left rear quarter panel. bike got totalled and it looks like as of now i just have a severely sprained left ankle, a beat up right ankle and some road rash. was wearing full gear and the upper half of the body is AOK. hell my helmet just has some light abrasions on it.

and yes it was her fault:D

I know in my accident the insurance would only cover gear if the law required it... and even though I'm required to by military law... it wasn't covered... but the helmet was

I sugest... if the helmet hit the ground at all... claim it... you don't HAVE to replace it... but I would... :2cents:

actually from what i was told there was very little damage to the car. after i stopped rolling i rolled over to my knees and that is where i stayed until some good Samaritans came over and helped me up. paramedics were there in under 5 minutes. and they were quite shocked to see me standing. ninjakel, leon and aquapython came and scooped up the bike and kel said she is going to post pics in the AM

Did you give the lady a hard time or did she not care she caused a potentially liife threatening accident? Estimated speed of impact?

Estimated speed of impact?i didn't give her a hard time...i said two things to her..."nice driving" and "no ma'am, the light was green" that was said when she tried to blame me for blowing a red light.

i gotta say icon makes a very good product and am very happy with the way the jacket held up and the my shark helmet "UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE" and my spidi race vent gloves...not a scratch on them.

estimated speed of impact was about 40-45mph...speed limit was 40

After my wreck at Homestead, Shark has my vote too. They make awesome helmets!

Side note...we had three different incidents last night where we almost got hit, and we were in the truck! If these idiots around here can't see the truck, they definitely can't see a bike. So glad to be getting out of here.

Sad part is he will prolly feel worse today :(

I have a shark lid too, I dont care for it too much in that it has less perephrial vision than my old arai and shoeis. It is a quality lid otherwise, and I will prolly make it my track lid since I dont need to be looking behind me on the track. Def good to know they hold up well in crashes though.

Glad you walked away!! We know a few who weren't so lucky... Take lots of hot baths to relax the muscles and speed the healing. Bend the broad over in court and make an example of her as to how cages don't pay enough attention to bikes out there. Heal soon! You can replace the bike, but you can't replace you.

Eh, Everyone is going to have an opinion on the matter one way or another.

Your alive thats all that matters...They make riding jeans with kevlar reinforced knees and ass and I would consider them to be "gear"...But I ride in jeans basically all the time...B/c Like you said...wearing a full or even two peice leather suit to go out can be tedious.

But in retrospect it protects your skin and body incase you do go down...So the argument can be had for ages.

I've now got full coverage on all my gear... costs me an extra $2.50 a month for up to $1500 not including my Helmet. :2cents:

Wow... damn Steve I'm so sorry to hear about this! Really glad to see you're alive and doing well though, despite a few bumps and bruises. Too many aren't quite so lucky!

Good luck and hoping for a speedy recovery! I had about a million sprained ankles when I was a kid (I'm sure not nearly as bad as yours though) from jumping out of trees, small buildings, and whatever else I could climb on top of, lol.... they freakin hurt!!! Get some rest and heal up soon!

Now ya'll see why I couldn't wait to get out of south Florida?? hahaha

PS - Get a Honda.... I hear they run forever

I would push for the shoulder esp if it hurts in the back/top area, gotta worry about rotator cuff tears. i am kinda plus/minus with ankles, I havent ordered many MRIs on them. Mostly knees and shoulders.

Don't be a smartass, Dan:nee:

OK, so the latest is that there seems to be "something" wrong with my right shoulder...could be minor like some deep muscle bruising or something a bit more serious, i think they are going to schedule an MRI for me. Also there might be some damage to my the back of my left knee...again could just be some bruising...but they aren't sure. The bad news is that I don't get to see the doc again till next thursday:(. But I do get more therapy and massages :).

Bout fuggin time they ordered it. Back of the knee, there isnt too much back there to damage but I would have it imaged as well.

status update:

the left ankle is now completely immobilized. the doc is pretty concerned with all the swelling so he put it in a cast today. he said that at least one week and then we'll go from there. he also told me that my right ankle is sprained as well, but not even close to what the left one is. and as far as my shoulder goes he checked the rotator cuff and he said that it seemed ok...just might be a strain that will heal itself in a week or so.

Thanks for the update, Steve. Did the doc give you any anti inflamatories for the swelling? Is it just the ankle that is sprained or is another part of the foot sprained too. Yours is beginning to sound like mine was but hopefully they'll treat yours better than they did mine.....

I was thinking more along the lines of I'll distract him while you inject a cocktail. It would be much easier & no need for restraints. We can roll him up and cast him like a mummy. Is there a universal sign for "I'm Gay?" :lmao:
