View Full Version : Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives
I love this show, especially in HD. I eventually want to plan a cross country trip setup just to go sample a lot of restaurants that have been on this show, pretty much setup the trip to just eat at these type places. I finally ate at my first restaurant to my knowledge that has been on this show. We went to The Varsity in Atlanta that is suppose to be the biggest drive-in, not sure if that is true or not, but it was a pretty cool place to eat, the hot dogs are excellent and the onion rings were a thing of beauty. Would recommend a stop here if you are passing through Atlanta because it's right off the interstate.

I went to Grandpa's in Dania with my grandparents about two years ago and remember thinking it was a stinky shithole with mediocre food. Then I saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and couldn't believe it was getting raves about the food. I might have to give it another shot here soon. There's been one or two other South Florida places shown that look interesting.

Food Network. Guy Fieri hosts it, but as much as he annoys the ever living piss outta me, the food makes it worth the watching.

Here's a list of places he's visited (http://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/guys-idiners-drive-ins-and-divesi/index.html) and some websites if you wanna see if anything is local or familiar to you.
Edited to add Google Map goodness. (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=109381830313025612173.00044884a3adbb9f94f0b&ll=50.680797,-96.328125&spn=27.216561,56.601563&z=4)

I watch the show from time to time. I'd like to visit some of the places mentioned, maybe the next time I take a ride up to Jersey I'll look for something along the way.

I have been to a few of the Michigan ones most were just normal everyday places. Keep in mind the locals send in the info so if they don't get out much then you get what they think is great.
I like the show.

I'm not much on fancy food... especially on road trips... my appitite seems to crave fast food... seriously... I get on a road trip and the only thing that seems to taste or sound good is fast food... :idk:
but if this is mostly drive-in's and Diners... I may have to look into a few on some of my trips...

Yeah, you can tell some places don't look as good as others. That's why I watch and pick which I really want to go to.

It's not fancy food, I am going to take you to a fancy food place when we go ride WNC though and you will like it. It's a weird place.

I could definitely handle eating at some of the places he's had on the show. It would be cool to plan a trip and make food stops at some of those locations.

As expected there are none in Ohio on that list.
I think it would be cool to visit some of those places. Some don't look as good, but others look freaking awesome!
I can think of a local restaurant that he could come. Don't really consider a diner, drive-in or dive, but it has the look and feel of the places he visits.... and greasy, fat-laden heroes... so good.

Ive been there a few times and their food is pretty good. Huge portions and their bread is great. It doesnt seem dirty to me either, maybe they fixed it up.

Could be. Last time I was there was around 2000, so 8ish years is enough time to change things I suppose.
