Larry Flynt is asking for a bailout.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.

“The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,” said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. “The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.”

Francis said in a statement that “the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people."


Flynt and Francis concede the industry itself is in no financial danger — DVD sales have slipped over the past year, but Web traffic has continued to grow.

But the industry leaders said the issue is a nation in need. "People are too depressed to be sexually active," Flynt said in the statement. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex."

"With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly."

So far, there has been no congressional reaction to the request.

I'm not the least bit surprised that this happened. Frankly, I think the government should have given the general public money, rather than the banks. The banks are just sitting on it and not loaning it. If the government had given the money to the public, we would have spent it. Some people would pay off debt, others would go on a spending spree, but the result is the banks would end up with the money and the people would be happy. Right now, the banks have the money and are holding it, while the public is pissed off.

Anyway, I don't think they should be bailed out directly. A way to bail out the porn industry that would make much more sense would be for the federal government to send out Porn Checks (CheXXX) to each taxpayer so that they could buy the porn of their choice. That way we wouldn't have any taxpayer money going to substandard porn purveyors because the people would pay the money only to the best pornographers they could afford. :dthumb:

Or, on an entirely different note, one could do something like Pope Sixtus V (1585–1590) who planned to turn the Roman Coliseum into a wool factory to provide employment for Rome's prostitutes. Think how many prostitutes Rome must have had.... :panic:

Porn moguls LARRY FLYNT and JOE FRANCIS are appealing to the U.S. Congress to grant the adult entertainment industry a £3.3 billion bail out - because it is suffering from the global economic meltdown just as much as others.


Hustler magazine entrepreneur Flynt claims adult DVD sales have plummeted in the last 12 months, with figures down 22 per cent from 2007.

He says, "With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America."

Meanwhile, Girls Gone Wild creator Francis is planning to travel to Washington D.C. to make his point heard, because he's adamant the porn industry is a key part of the U.S. economy - just like the financial and motor institutions.

He tells TMZ.com, "Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation's most important businesses; we feel we deserve the same consideration."

Yes, but without professional pornographers all you'll see on redtube and the like are crappy videos that won't arouse you. The likes of Sarah Vendallah, Carmen McCarthy, and Sunny Lane do not work for free my friend, and unless you're kell's weekly appointment your life will suck. It's hard to find a girl like that, so bail out the pronographers. Without the occasional Hustler or Swank getting stolen from dad's closet I foresee a lot more school shootings.

You'd think that since financial situations tend to be the main cause of most divorces and break ups, that there would be more lonely men out there who need porn. Unless women are realizing that in these tough times they can't be too choosey when it comes to a bread winner and are hanging on to whatever they can grab a hold of and guys are getting more ass as their women realize if they want to stay they have to play.
