me and this guy from craiglist have been going back and forth about me selling him my gixxer, this is his final email to me.... I have no experience with a bank certified check....wtf is this, is it a safe way to do business?

I will not give the bike away until the check clears if it comes down to that but I would like someone with selling experience to tell me what is up.

his response was:

I really appreciate your response to my email.I want you to considerit sold, pls do withdraw the advert from craigslist to avoiddisturbance.I want you to know that i will be paying via bankcertified check .I will like you to provide me with the following. information to facilitate the mailing of the check to you ...

1.....Full name to write on the check
2.....Full Physical address to post the check
3.....City, State and Zip Code
4.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you

*** Note that the payment will be shiped to your address via UPS NEXTDAY SERVICE and I will like you to know that you will not beresponsible for shipping i will have my mover come over as soon as youhave cashed the check**

Thanks -- Do you still have item available for sale?

fuck it, Im not even going to allow a check, cold cash talks!

this was my response:

I need cash, no need to go through a bank. cash your check, bring the cash and then we can do business.

the bike still available, however I do have another guy asking questions too.

since the check isn't writen for more than what you are asking for, it's a good chance that it is ligit

how much are you selling the bike for?
i'm not goiing to carry around $8,000 in cash. i'm not a drug dealer. certified checks are the same as cash and safer to carry around.
it's very common.

$2300.

im not giving any information out. if the guy wants to do business, he would have to come get the bike anyway....

so I dont get what is the point of sending a check that they know will not work and just walk away...

it's a scam, I post stuff on craiglist all the time and about every other post I get at least 1-2 of these messages. They all want to send a money order or certified check and ask you to remove the ad. It's BS.....don't waste your time..

Loz, thats the same email reply I have received on multiple occasions from different potential buyers. I think its one that is being passed around amongst the scam artists. Some are for the exact amount, most are for additional, ALL tell me to "Consider it sold and remove the ADVERT from C/L"

I keep trying to get these fucktards over to my place so I can take care of them personally but they ALWAYS fail to show up in person.

thanks for the heads up Bill...

they guy never contacted me again so Im sure it was nothing but a scam.

whats interesting also is that a real local guy has been contacting me about the bike as well... and they have very similar email addresses... but the local guy has been emailing 2 or 3 times a day asking specific questions and going back and forth over different things so hopefully the sale will go through.

I wouldn't even reply if I were you, the scam ones usually all have basically the same message about paying with a check, needing your info and to remov the ad. If you reply you are actually giving them/confirming your e-mail address. When they e-mail you it goes thru Craiglist and they don't have your address until you respond.

I may be off base here, but this dude was going to send you a check WITHOUT even checking out the bike?!?! I have and never will buy a bike unseen I don't care how much it costs. That fact in itself tells me this is a scam. That and the broken English. These scams would work better if they were written in the King's English, and not some broken dialect.
