I'm gonna see it. Probably not in the theaters, but I want to see how they portray his life. I want to see what facts they put in, and what they completely make up. Considered one of the best rappers of his time (I don't know how, the guy could barely hold his mouth closed, let alone rap an entire 3 minutes...) gunned down (imagine that) by a rival... I wonder if 2Pac will be playing himself?

Let's see, Johnny Cash wasn't a welfare baby. Johnny Cash served in the military. Johnny Cash didn't sell drugs in his neighborhood. Johnny Cash didn't get shot by a rival country singer. I'm sorry Kell, I'm going to have to agree that its a stretch comparing Biggie rapper to Johnny Cash. I'm not a fan of country or Americana, but one can't deny the impact Johnny Cash had on music. Comparing Biggie to Johnny is like comparing Britney Spears to Barbara Streisand, IMO. ;)

Just because someone becomes famous for their music, doesn't mean they have actually made any true contribution TO music or society with their music.

See, I don't mind rap - as long as there is some diction involved. If you talk, speak, rap or sing like you have a mouth full of crap I won't consider it talent. I'll consider you just put a good rhythm to the Peanut's mom.

I'm not interested in the movie.

And, I don't understand how the movies presented here can be compared other than they are both about people from a point of view other then the personal view of the humans portrayed.

How can anyone from the public view argue fiction or non-fiction when no one knows what is either?

Amorok
01-16-2009, 03:22 PM
I'm just saying you can't compare the two. Johnny Cash had a huge influence far beyond himself. His songs were part of the changes in music that made it what it is today. All modern rock and even metal owe something to the driving beats and melodic guitars he was one of the pioneers of. How has biggie smalls inspired anyone to do anything but sound like every other rapper out there. And what made him different than anyone else? Nothing.

Both movies are pseudobiographies, but I think more people are interested in watching something about a country and blues legend than they are in watching Hustle and Flo, I mean Get Rich or whatever, I mean another movie about a poor black kid from the hood who makes it big doing something with no value, like I said before. Hell, 8 mile was interesting for a fleetingly longer second because it was different to see a famous white guy with no musical talent rapping.

You want to impress me with one of these movies? Make one about the first rappers, people like Grandmaster Flash who pioneered the art. Make sure you mention that the first rap song on the radio was actually performed by a blonde, white woman though.

Thats what I was thinking. Just because you dont like a certain time of music doesnt mean its not music. I cant stand country, but yet I still recognize it as music. And like sixxer said, I cant rap and chances are most of you cant rap either, it takes some musical talent to be able to truly rap. George Bush hates black people - Kanye West

I guess it could be a good movie. And I enjoy rap but I was more of a Death Row fan than the Biggie side. I won't see the movie but I didn't see Walk the Line either. I love Johnny Cash to death and can sing about half of his songs by heart. But I've heard his stories through his music since I was 12.

But I love how often these rappers our put on a status of say the Beatles, Elvis, Cash, or even Run DMC. When their rise to fame is mainly getting shot around their prime and before they became burnouts.

I do like this quote from Chris Rock -
I'm watching the news … Tupac Shakur was assassinated, Biggie Smalls assassinated, struck down by assassin's bullets … no, they wasn't. Martin Luther King was assassinated, Malcolm X was assassinated, John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Them two niggas got shot! Shit, I love Tupac, I love Biggie, but school will be open on their birthday

And I remember in another he talks about "You ain't going to see a picture of 2pac at your Grandmas house". (Grandma)"Here's Jesus, Lincoln, MLK, and Pac"

True, but when a person glorifies the thug life as part of their image, and their fans fail to differentiate the art from the reality, then it's difficult to pass off a shooting at a theater where the life of an artist who made millions off of portraying the image of being a thug is being shown to people who idolize the artist as just a coincidental shooting. He had a musical appeal that transcended racial and socioeconomic boundaries, true, but it wasn't excluded from those looking to imitate his life, violent aspects and all.

Hold on now. You can't put any of that on him. Its entertainment.

Are we going to blame Denzel Washington for all bad cops because of his movie Training Day?

I grew up on Martial Arts Movies, War Movies, playing guns and rap music. I haven't shot anyone. And yes I did listen to Biggie and Tupac.

I do like big butts but that is not Sir Mix-a-Lot's fault. Or is it? :rockout:

I'm not blaming him for anything. He is an influence though, and as much as I hate to say it, there are those who aren't able to distinguish between the art and the reality. It's the same reason I get annoyed when there's a jump to blame video games for excessive violence. A majority of the people out there are smart enough to understand that the games are nothing more than an extension of fantasy. But there's always those small numbers of special people who get enveloped in the fantasy and turn it into their reality. I believe that to be the situation here.

And everybody likes big butts, and I can not lie. Sir Mix-a-Lot just happened to put that to a catchy tune.

Some are just mental. But for most I would blame it on the parents.

Biggie had nothing to do with that shooting at the theater. The blame should be put on the one holding the gun.

And I'm the same way about the games. :dthumb: I love Grand Theft Auto. But if you agree with that then you can't blame the music.

I have a little info for you but you can't share it with anyone. Its top secret.

Biggie is dead so he didn't get anyone to shot anyone.

Hip Hop doesn't make blacks shoot each other.

Video games don't make kids shot each other.

Every time you masturbate God DOESN'T kill a Kitten.

And Elvis doesn't shop at Walmart. The man has left the building. He is no longer with us.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...Don't say anything to anyone.
