...And now I feel like a total dumbass

I found a check still all folded up, dated 11/20/03... for $760.04, that I had never cashed :zowned: It was my 401(k) payout from when I quit wally world back in July '03 (hey it was my first job, hahah). I know for a fact I was broke as hell at that particular time being that I was in school, so I really don't know how the f**k I could have possibly forgot to deposit it into my account... DOH! Oh well, live and learn....

Damn :zowned:

You didn't want it so get them to write a new one, sign it over to me and I will help a young lady "pay for school" with a night of lap dances. :rockwoot:

I'm kind of curious if you can actually get the money for this.

Looks like you are SOL but I'd give a shot.

Oh. Being in the Atlanta area call Clark Howard up (AM750). That cheap bastard will know the answer for sure.

While that particular check is no longer valid, they don't get to tell him he forfeited his money. They'll just shred that one and issue another.

Seems like, if you still have the check, they (Wal-Mart) would still be obligated to pay since they never actually gave you the money.

EDIT: Or, you know, plus one to fasternyou.

This happened to my sister once with graduation money, so it wasn't quite as much. I don't think she every asked for the money from the people, but called them to let them know why she never cashed it.

I hope this one works out for you. Anyone can always use a little extra cash.

what Moira was trying to point out was that Merill Lynch is no more. BoA bought them. They're way gone.

If BoA bought them they bought there debts and profits also! That check would be a debt.

It really depends on the terms of his account. In most cases, something that old would not be able to be reissued. I mean, there is a 6 year rule on bank records. But, it doesn't ever hurt to ask.

Nick, you meant debt.... Right?

I may be mistaken but I beleive that in cases of some 401k's you have to roll them over to another when terminated from a company. otherwise it's automaticly payed out and terminated. :idk: just what i remember hearing...

Lots of acct service companies like Fidelity will let you keep it in there, even after you quit. Or you can roll it over into an IRA. It does not have to be another 401k.
