View Full Version : I've Met So Many Biks Since Then!

When I add people to my contact list in my phone, I always make some sort of note in the name in attempt to help me remember who they are according to how we met or what bike they ride. For examples: Jay-naked blue SV, Jason-work, or Eric-CF (and yes, I use screen names  ). Typically those who have a bike in their name are those I've met while out & about. I never meet a stranger. I've been known to chase down other riders on occassion and walk up to other riders, introduce myself, and start talking bikes wherever I am. Sometimes phone numbers are exchanged. Most oftentimes not. I'm picky about who gets my number as I can usually tell if they're someone I'd ride with while talking to them. And even as friendly as I am, some just give off this weird vibe & I quickly end the conversation & go about my way. I don't need a stalker :panic:

My note taking failed me tonight. I got a text a little while ago from a guy who's name was tagged with a bike. I haven't talked to him in months, so I didn't recognize who it was much less the bike.

He apologized for not having contacted me sooner, gave a plausible excuse (terminally ill parent who died, which I can understand having recently going through it myself). He said he remembered I worked nights, hence the late text & wanted to know if I was still riding my SV. I'm sitting here wracking my brain over who the hell this could be & hesitated to answer. Apparently my first impression was good enough to give him my number, but for the life of me I couldn't place him. Before I had a chance to respond, he shot me another text asking if I remembered him & telling me what street bike he rides. So I shot one back to him, "I'm really sorry, I don't remember. I've met other bikes since then!" :lmao: It was after I sent the text I realized how it could have sounded. It didn't deter him as he texted back exactly where we met & that his buddy was with him & what he was riding. I remembered his friend's bike (it was prettier  ) so at least it jogged my memory enough to have a decent text converation with him. I also remembered we had texted a bit & once tried to get together to ride before, but it never happened. I never heard from him again so I pretty much wrote him off. That was about 6 months ago.

Anyway we texted for a little while & we're meeting up to go riding tomorrow. He also has dirt bikes & maybe on another day we'll go do some trail riding. I haven't ridden dirt in over a year because mine died & needs a rebuild. He said he had plenty of dirt bikes & I could take my pick. It sounds damn tempting but I'm not going to go off riding with a virtual stranger on some secluded trails. Besides, he hurt my height-pride when he said he had one that was "just my size" -- a CRF 150. WTF? I've ridden a KX125 at track, although not very well...I do better on trails...and my SV is bigger than the CRF! Bah!

Anyway, I'm going riding tomorow with a new person. I hope my first impression of his riding style is right & he doesn't ride too squidly. I remember he was wearing good gear, which is not normal here. Hopefully I have found a new riding friend. :D

Edit to correct: he said the xr50 was my size but I could try to the CRF.....Grrr.....

I do something similar. In my case, when I put someone's number in my phone, I add what state they're in to their name, as I know several people with the same name who live in different states. Traveling all over the place will do that.

Most of the time it works, doesn't it?

I have you listed as Gixter-Trace. I dropped "CF" off of it a while back. :D

I also add screen names to the numbers. I have a few contacts that are only screen names. I use my calendar and email on my phone so much, I can't remember the last time I used Outlook

Me? Smoke someone? Hahahahaaa!!! :lmao: We'll see. IIRC his bike wasn't too clean (a little rash) but so does mine from a previous owner & from a low speed lowside in '05. He did have gear so maybe he knows a little. Most around here only go fast in a straight line....on one wheel (hence why I don't have many people to ride with...I love stunts but on a busy road is not the place for it). We don't have any really good roads here to ride, but I'll see how he does. I'm just waiting for it to warm up a little more so I don't have to layer so much. :D

Well ok maybe a street pose off, supermodel to supermodel.

"Rogue is wearing early spring layers of Gucci, Cold Gear by UnderArmor, thong by Victoria's Secret. "

"Thor is wearing Fieldsheer Leathers, AGV boots, and sheer satin hosiery by Fredericks of Hollywood"

I myself have to wait until this ice storm crap gets cleaned up before I can ride again. I was down 2 months waiting for parts $$ and now that I am 100%, I am stuck waiting for the salt, sand, ice, and tree debris to get swept aside. No fun!

More along the lines of...

Nice not to have to wait around for ice and snow to clear.

Rogue, have fun riding with Ted Bundy. If you get killed we'll miss you.

Actually he's a pretty cool guy. A bit dorky but it's not like I'm looking for anything other than a riding buddy & friend. (he's forever on the friend's list, which was where he was going anyway, regardless)

The reason his bike had rash on it when I saw it last is because he said he had just bought it that way. He says he got a good deal from some new rider that wrecked it (cosmetic damage) & it scared him off of it. Most of the cosmetic damage had been replaced, then he was involved in a hit & run (I remember a friend telling me about this one, but didn't know it was him) in November. Today was the first time he's ridden since. He's fixed it almost completely to a 100% again...or so he says. :idk: He says this is his 8th street bike since he's been riding street close to 15 years (he's my age, which equals OLD ) He seems to know his shit, he doesn't ride like an ass, and is easy for me to ride with. He thinks he knows what's wrong with my rear brake..even showed me. I think he can fix it with very little time, effort, or parts. We'll see...I'm funny about who touches my bike.

I had a fun day riding, aside from almost getting hit & got to ride a couple of new roads...not anything impressive but nice nonetheless. We'll probably ride again, weather permitting.

My near accident: I was rolling up to a light & the dumbass beside me on the left (I was in the right lane) was on his cell phone & crossed over almost hitting me. My first reaction was kicking his car (something I've never done) almost completely unbalancing myself in the process. I didn't really have much of an escape route at that time since I was almost stopped directly behind another car. Then he had enough nerve to act pissed that I kicked his POS car! He rolled his window down & yelled at me, which I returned the favor, along wirh giving him the finger. The light turns green & I go. He pulls in behind me. Great. Traffic is crawling & I see no immediate way of getting away from this asshole, so I decide to pull into a parking lot full of people just in case he tried anything. Better to have him show his ass with others around (witnesses) & off the road to avoid any other possibilities (running me off the road or worse). I was shaking bad...mostly from anger, but from some fear as well. I barely got my kickstand down. I couldn't really move off the bike & didn't want to. I wasn't going to run inside & let him damage my bike. He pulls in & opens his car door (he's on my right). He sees me with the visor up & he says, "Oh shit! My bad! Sorry!"..shuts his door & leaves! What the hell? I'm sitting on my bike, still shaking & confused as to what just happened. I guess when he realized I was a female he decided to back off, especially since there were people watching. Whew! Even scared I would not have backed down. I'm not programmed like that. I was already mentally preparing myself for a confrontation.

Lesson learned. Remember to give myself more space, even behind a stopped car & don't kick other cars. I might lose my balance next time & drop my bike.

Kick N Run. Woulda been funny to watch his ass get beat down by a girl, but wonder what his problem was anyways? I am always scared cause you never know peoples state of mind (or lack thereof)

I hate you, I was gonna ride to work today since it was soooo nice out. I pull the bike out and watch a sand/salt truck roll by spewing out crap all over the road. This would have ment a very fun surface to ride.

I wound up parking the bike and drove my car instead.

usualy we catch a break in the winter with a few stretches where it sneaks up to decent temps. Aside from yesterday and today it has bareley hit 40 and is usualy in the high 20's and low 30's. Couple that with roads that were utterly atrocious untill all the rain we got last week.

Also my bike is nowhere near rideable. I would need a quasi warm day jsut to get it back together and would like to change the oil but will squeak out a few days if the situation presents itself.

If I layer well, most days are decent enough to ride...around the 40's. But working nights, lately I just haven't fell froggy enough to brave the upper 20's to low 30's even if it's just for a 10 minute ride to work. Hell, it takes me longer to get all those damn layers on than it does for me to ride there.

Last year I did it though. Froze my ass off riding the interstate (had to from the old place) for just a half hour to get to or from work in those temps with no heated gear. Well, that's a bit of exageration. I kept most of my body warm but had problems keeping my hands warm enough. They'd hurt and throb forever it seemed, as they warmed back up.

I need some heated grips....

Thats my problem too I am leaving for work before the suns up so its still cold, and am heading home in the dark so it starts getting cold. Some mornings I woke up and was a little tired and just didnt feel like gearing up and riding in the cold. Come th ehotter days of the summer I am sure I iwll be out daily since it will be more comfortable to ride.
