The handlebar is actually smoking. I saw that on another forum. It's a sweet ass pic. Just the fact that he pulled that out and didn't go down is amazing.

That's actually smoke coming from his boot, I think. But he did get his handlebar down.

We used to do it to mess around (our first race instructor did it to point out lines to us... at speed), but then people who really had no business trying it would see and attempt it... and it nearly caused a few wrecks, so we stopped.
[edit] Forgot to mention, ideally you want no weight on your arms when you're steering the bike (all of your weight should be on your legs) to get maximum feedback from the front end. When you reach that point (or close to it), it's really easy to take your hands off the bars.
