I felt like it would be ok for me to drive 6 blocks back to my house drunk. Cop pulled into the parking lot behind me. Long story short, he let me off with a CNI instead of DWI, MIP, and who knows what else I could've gotten.

CNI?

Yea... i've done such stupid things before. Back when i lived in the dorms i would drive from my friends appt which was less than 2 minutes away. All it took was seeing a cop sitting across from the dorms one time for me to never do it again. The worst thing was i was only 18.... i woulda been FUCKED!

Careless and imprudent driving. They mostly give them out for burning out and things like that. That's pretty much exactly what happened to me. I'm only 19 also.

He asked me if I had been drinking and I said yes. It goes a long way to be completely honest and give him respect. He told me his shift ended at 7:30, and he would drive back past right before he got off and if my car wasn't there he'd write me a DWI and mail it to me.

You are fucking lucky. Lucky that you didn't go to jail but even more so that you didn't kill anybody or yourself. Stop being stupid, get a ride next time.

Flexin

Lucky wouldn't be my word of choice.

You were 6 damn blocks away What would that be? A $5-10 max cab ride? And you could have walked back to your car in the morning. Or left your car home and walked there, cab back.

Got off lucky is an understatement.

I'd like to know what kind of friends you party with that wouldn't take your keys away from you or allow you to drive like that?

Definitely learned my lesson. Not ever going to be driving after drinking again. My whole group of friends learned something from it.

i lost two friends like that. driver was cut in two by the steering wheel...his brother was the one of the three in the truck that actually survived. he has no legs. they cut one off at the scene to get him out of the truck. enuf said.

damn bro... not the smartest move in the world... but I can't say much... I've done it more than I care to admit... always seem to end up with my keys and not wanting to stay where ever I am.

sad thing is I can drive well when I'm drunk.

so to stop myself... I stopped drinking unless I've walked there or got a ride. if I drove there I don't drink.

I appreciate the honesty... Every time this subject comes up everyone jumps all over those who drink and drive... I'd be willing to bet most of them have done it many times themselves... Honestly, I don't think I've ever met anyone who drinks socially that hasn't drank and drove...

yeah... we all know it's wrong and completely stupid. but last time I checked we don't always make sound decisions when drunk... Some people take home ugly/fat chicks... some get into fights... I drove... I was fortunate enough to not kill anyone the 20 or 30 times I did it.

I still believe that I can drive fine when I'm drunk... at least at 1-4am when there's little traffic on the road. but even in AK in the winter... never went into a ditch or ran over a curb...

in the end just decided it wasn't worth the risk to drink if I always ended up there.

I've met TRock... I don't think he's an idiot... he may be gay... but not an idiot... just made a dumb choice...

now just needs to not put himself in that situation. or find a friend that he can trust enough to make sure he gets home alright.

rogue
02-08-2009, 05:23 PM
I'm not saying I haven't because I have a couple of times, although not quite as lit as T-Rock was. Usually when I'm fussing at someone about something like this, I'm typically doing it from having the experience. ;) And...I wouldn't fuss about it if I didn't care about their welfare either.

I never drank and drive. I also can tell you everything I drank in my life. When I was around 13, one of my uncles lived with us. He had a brand new F150 and was driving home drunk. He hit a telephone pole 2.5 blocks from home. Totaled the truck. I is alive and didn't kill anyone. He stopped drinking at that point and hasn't drank since.

I learned from that and watching my grandmother who had a drinking problem.

It is never worth it to drink and drive. If someone drives better drunk they shouldn't have a license.

A lot of people I know will meet up at someones house and take a cab from there. Sometimes they even go for a limo. Check with people. Someone that isn't drinking might be willing to drive you.

I told my brother that if he is ever somewhere drunk and needs to get home to call me at ANY time. I will pick him up. I don't care when it is.

if your talking about what I said... didn't say i drive better... but I drive well... IMO better than half the idiots on the road. doesn't make it right... just makes it more tempting for me to do it. hence why I stopped it at the root cause.

I tell all my friends... day or night... your drunk give me a call... I'll pick ya up or send ya a cab to my place and pay for it. I have no issues with it...

I was lucky all the times I would drink and then drive home. Finally I started calling Mom. Everyone makes fun of me for calling her, but she lives close to me and drilled in my head to call her than to drive.. so I do.

Now I'm the DD for my husband when he drinks too much... which was just Friday night (celebrating 40 years!).

Glad you learned your lesson and that your friends have too.

ahh... ok... yeah I've heard that before too... complete bs... I am no where near as good a driver as I am sober... but I still think that puts me above a lot of idiots on the road. I drive like a 16y/o who just got their license... signal 2mins prior to moving over... drive the exact speed limit... hands at 10 and 2... triple checking every blind spot before change'n lanes

 well at least in OR... they're like that till about 16 and 2 or 3 months... then it's the ghetto lean with the seat laid back... looking THROUGH the stearing wheel... Radio so loud you hear it 2 blocks away... cell phone in hand texting or held up by shoulder while drink'n a redbull... racing everywhere just to get there 15 seconds faster.

LOL That ALMOST sounded exactly like me. But my step father taught me to drive and while driving with him if I didn't slow down he said he would kick me in my shins. He always told me any speed was faster then walking which was what I would be doing if they took my license for speeding.

I was like Wil Smith. "2 mph so everybody sees you." LOL They didn't have texting but I was on my phone. No Redbull then and I didn't like having to much food in my car. I did at times but anyway. Stereo bumpin'. One night I was downtown cruisin and a navel ship was in so everyone was out. I was driving around with a buddy in the car and we had my system cranked. Well one of my mids couldn't handle it and blew. I was pissed but I just tried to adjust the stereo to cut sound to that speaker so I could keep going but I couldn't shut it down completely. It would crackle and drive me nuts. I drove down the street to a parking lot, hauled off my door panel and disconnected my speaker. I was back in business. Screw turning it down. LOL

I had the lean. People would laugh because I would look out my rear door (four door) in my first car to look to the left.

LL said it best.

"Headlights breakin cos your batteries drain
Armor all on your tires and a big gold chain
Parkin outside of all the hip-hop spots
Push the E-Q and play connect the dots
Leanin to the side, people everywhere
The trunk full of amps, there ain't no room for a spare
Big beats bumpin with the bass in back
All the sophisticated suckers catch a heart attack
Cos they don't understand why I act this way
Pumpin up the funky beat until the break of day
It's because I want attention when i'm ridin by
And the girls be on my jock cos my system's fly"

Glad you just got off with a warning!

Now the issue i have with people driving drunk, is not that they will hurt themselves, but to hurt someone innocent.

I have a friend that drives drunk all the time. When i've hung out with her a couple of times, she would get shitface, swaying all over the place, and is a sloppy drunk. She wouldnt let me take her keys and doesn't want a DD. I don't know if i'm being a prude or what, but i don't feel right hanging out with her when she gets like that, in case she hurts someone else, i would feel like an enabler. I tell her and she thinks i'm crazy. I'm hoping someday she gets busted for a DUI, fined and whatever comes with it. Maybe she will learn her lesson then.

Its true. It sucks when you offer to help people and they won't give in. I also can't stand being around those types so I avoid them but I do put plenty of effort into helping them before giving up. I hate giving up but you can't help them all.

Most everyone else I know relies on me as the only guy who is always up in the early AM and willing to leave the house and get them. Its what friends do.

Maybe someone needs to explain what a drinking problem is. :panic: That must be a fun by the end of the night when partying with her. And not being able to stop isn't the huge issue. Its the fact that she drives after the fact. That woman need some help.

Right before nye, she got stopped at a checkpoint for a drunk test, but she passed, the cop prob was lenient cuz she's cute but then again moving your eyes from side to side while keeping your head still wasn't a comprehensive test. So now she thinks she is invincible.

And her new boyfriend likes to drink too so i doubt she will be stopping anytime soon.
