My father in law rides a 1982 Yam. He wants to do some repairs/maintance to it. He bought it used at some auction and rode it last season to work to save gas.

He's a lisenced mechanic so doing the work is no biggie. We are just looking for somewhere better for purchasing the parts other than the yam dealer.

Aftermarket parts are ok as well.

The stock Yam part numbers are
air cleaner..12R-14451-00-00
generator brushes..4G0-81611-10-00
4G0-81612-10-00
chain.. 94580-20100-00
front shock parts, will be 2 of each
oil seal.. 10V-23145-00-00
clip oil seal... 1J3-23156-00-00
dust seal... 12R-23144-00-00
stopper ring... 1J3-23183-01-00
gasket...2F3-23114-00-00

I know I can look at Ron Aryers but they don't have anything past 1990

Suggestions?

I'll ask Jeeps when he calls in a bit, bet he knows more than one place to check out.:dthumb:

Hope all is well with you and your family!!

Talking to Jeeps now. He said he knew a guy here that has a lot older parts. Will pm you if he comes up with anything. Also said he may have some web sites but can't remeber will look them up when he gets back.

Yeah we want a website or someplace we can order via web or phone. My FIL lives up north and away from everywhere.

If this was a harley it would be easier for me...

I'd recommend giving the guys at Mike's XS a call. They primarily work with the XS650 but I'm thinking since they focus on the XS then they might be able to help with the 400 too. I'm thinking the generator brushes might be universal on XS' models, and if not the 650 ones could probably be modified to work. The forks (apparently you were unaware they're called "forks" and not front shocks  ) might be the same. And give Ron Ayers a quick check, if they still made the XS400 in 1990 I'm guessing the major components wouldn't have changed.

bikebandit.com is very much like ronayers, but also carries older stuff too.

I copied and pasted the info... sorry for forks error.

Bikebandit is nice on the parts diagram and as you said... shows the older bikes. However, some of the part numbers don't match.

No problem, I just like giving people a hard time.

the part numbers not matching may be due to some part # being superceded by another part of some sort.
