I know quite a few of us are Military, and while I know who some of you are, I am curious to know where folks are stationed and what glamorous () jobs y'all do. :D
I'll start... I'm a Staff Sergeant (E6) in the Army National Guard (2 years so far.. spent 6 years in the Reserves before that).
MOS's I currently hold: 27D (Paralegal Specialist) and 88N (Transportation Movement Coordinator). Working on getting 42A (Human Resources Specialist). I'm also a bonefied Army Instructor.
Units I've been with: HHC, 13th COSCOM (Reserve Detachment, San Antonio & Fort Hood, TX) - that's the unit I deployed with during OIF II in 2004; HHC, 7/158th Aviation Regiment (Fort Hood, TX); 3747th Multifunctional Training Brigade (Grafenwoehr, Germany); HHC, 36th ID DISCOM (Camp Mabry, Austin, TX); and now currently assigned to (and working full-time for) HHC, 136th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (Austin, TX).
Feel free to give as much or as little detail as you're comfortable sharing.. I understand for some of you OPSEC applies. :D
Being as I'm usually the one behind the camera.. I don't have many recent shots.. so I'm just adding one from my 21st birthday in Iraq (I'm the one holding the near-beer).

3 tours? Were they the usual AF tours of 3 months? :nee:
I kid of course... if only because Tracy's best friend is in a Special Air Lift wing and what they considered a "deployment" was 4 weeks of flying in and out of the desert, but most of their time was spent getting drunk in Belgium.

I'm a 9-year USAF SSgt (E-5, we don't just give out rank like the rest of you.) My first job was Avionics on KC-135R & T models, and I did that for five years in Grand Forks, North Dakota working outside and it was shit. I deployed all over the world, including 19-Sep-01 for quite the long time.
I did five years of better than 200 days a year deployed, and then the AF decided they didn't need mechanics anymore, so they denied everyone's CJR's. So I cross-trained, and now I'm a Unit Education and Training Manager, which is why I have so much time to post. The title is actually misleading as I run a group-level program overseeing training for more than 1,000 military and civilians at Keesler AFB in MS. And it's the shit.

Yea, I do work with screeners but I also train "undercover" people also. The biggest problem I come across is that most ( not all) are prior military , and some people forget they aren't in uniform anymore.

I officially left service from Scott AFB. But I have been stationed/ tdy to more than I can count. My first deployment was Kosvo, when I was a young Airman. I don't really feel to comfortable about talking too much about my time in Southwest Asia, but I was at base "B" and I have been to a "STAN" country

5 years active in the Marines, plus a year mobilization from the reserves. All the bases I was at in Iraq are gone now, or handed over to another coalition country.
After a year off contract, I took a 6 year hitch with the Navy reserves. I'm almost four years through. Retirement be damned, I'm done when this contract is up.

SSgt (E-5) Active Air Force... 7 years as of 26 Feb. (fuck that long already!)
90% sure I'll retire... so long as they don't fuck our retirement benifits

What the... since when does the AF wear the Marine soft cap? I saw a metric shit ton of AF on my deployment since I was stationed at Balad AB (LSA Anaconda to you Army folk), and I just never saw that while I was there... only regular soft caps or boonie caps. the regular soft cap isn't authorized in DCU's in the AOR... even though that's what they issue us at our home bases :idk: they 8 point or boonie are the only ones your allowed to wear (for Air Force in DCU's) in our new ABU's... who the fuck knows

But here goes for me. I'm a Staff Sergeant (E-5), active duty Air Force, been in for about 5 and a half. What do I do? F-16 Avionics. I have literally been upside down to my waist in this airplane before. Seriously, legs hanging out the top the jet. Some days I enjoy it, some days I absolutely hate it.
Count down to next deployment: 1.5 weeks.

6-point or 8-point, either way I never wore it. The boonie was all I needed to watch Iraqis make concrete back in 06. And to those that are not in the military, I'm not slamming Iraqis, I literally had to watch them make concrete for 6 months straight.
But yeah, quick edit b/c you answered Archren's question while I was typing. Oh yeah, I was hoping to run into you (ebbs) before you left Korea, but oh well, some other time.

Almost 6 years in the navy as a stoker. Just about finished the first year of my two year technician program.
I don't even to pretend to know your rank structure. But, I've been promoted twice. ( we REALLY do not give our rank away) It usually takes 8-10 years to make petty officer.
Things I've accomplished that I'm proud of, Fighting forest fires in Kelowna BC in 03, Raising $13,000 for the children's wish foundation by running a relay across NS, Being infamous at our NBCD school (they now give a safety lecture on why you should not use "dummy" atropine injectors on anybody's forehead. No matter how much they dare you...".
I've sailed alot. I averaged about 7 months a year for my first 4 years. I've sailed all over Europe with Standing Nato Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1). Summer of 06 we sailed up the st lawrence river, through the great lakes to Thunder Bay setting a record for the furthest north in the lakes for a warship.
We patrolled the Med for a bit in 05. Got buzzed by jets (betcha didn't hear about that one?) and our boarding party searched boats for drugs.
It's back to my boat in Jan 2010. Which is the year of the Canadian Navy's 100th anniversary(huge celebrations planned for the summer in Hfx harbour). Where I get to complete a year long training package to become a machinery watchkeeper/operator/technician.
Finally after all that training... I become ready for promotion to our first earned rank. And I'm lucky enough to be one of the top 20 or so that year, I'll get promoted! Almost seems worth it...

You can barely even compare the enlisted ranks. The Brits that were stationed with us in Kuwait during WaitEX had corporals who were all easily 10 years senior to our sergeants and staff sergeants.
Though I bet our reserves could give you a run for your money. Seems like half the guys I see that are my rank in the reserves are grayed and/or balding.

Back in the day 8-points were a bitch and a half to keep in decent shape. Only the front 1/8 was bordered, and no cover block would fit just right. Why it took them so long to come up with the idea of embroidering all 8 sides I'll never know, but the day I got my first was a great day in Marine Corps history.
Well now,
Been Army for 11 years, I'm now an E-7 as a 56M, but I also hold 42A and 11B Mos's. Airborne, Air Assault, plus a couple more of the cool boy badges. Served int the stan 2x, both sort tours than most, the first was hard, the 2nd was a cake walk.

Soon I will be picking up (hopefully)

Truth.
I love my soft cap and boonie... let those that earn the beret wear it... I don't want the fucker.
Looks good with the A's, but like shit with the ACU's IMO.
And besides, it's a combat uniform... why would you wear a beret to combat?

Preach brutha. Speaking of the beret, I tried to get a cool colored one, I woumd up being a 24 day medical dropout. I pretty much decided that after that month I would never try again...

Nope.. we went with COSCOM. When we mobilized, we integrated with the active component guys when the COSCOM headquarters deployed (hooray multi-compo units... for the record.. it's a bad idea ). We were at LSA Anaconda (Balad AB).

the thing that kills me is the Army went and designed the uniform... then PICKED who made them... USMC did the same... judging by the Navy guy I saw... they also went this route...
Air Force... designed 20 different uniforms... tested them... then went with the cheapest to make... which also happened to be the heaviest and worst wearing one... Huah Air Force!

Ever since the Army did away with jungle fatigues, these shits just get worse and worse. The BDUs were fairly durable but uncomfortable as fuck. The summer BDUs looked like they were made from the same rip-stop cottons as jungle fatigues but frayed just from washing. I liked 'em. The summers were more durable than the winters, and the winters were heavy and didn't breath well.

ACU's suck. velcro sticks to EVERYTHING! and the material is not nearly as durable as it needs to be for a daily wear uniform

I totally agree... velcro sticks to everything except what it's supposed to stick to. The loop part wears out very quickly. I've been on active orders for 2 years, and I've had to replace velcro on at least 3 of my 5 sets of uniforms.

If we're talking utility uniforms, the Air Force's ABU is absolute garbage. I'm an aircraft mechanic and that retarded uniform gets nasty filthy too damn fast and will not come clean and can't even stand up to my washing machine. All the AF did was take the BDU, change the color and add some stupid ass pockets. "Oh, a pen pocket on your sleeve, wow." Seriously, if you work at a desk, get a fucking pen holder. People that need to carry pens of multiple colors, pencils, grease pens, and sharpies don't wear their fucking shirts all the damn time. And when we do wear our tops, we've got the coat over top 'cause of the wind/cold/rain/snow. The ABU is a garbage ass uniform, at least from a mechanic's point of view and the Army's ACU doesn't seem to be much better.

When the Marines started talking uniform change back in the late 90's, all I could think was "Why? Buy me a fucking radio that works and keep the goddamn woodland cammies." I will say that woodland MARPAT blends in better with most forest environments, but hardly enough to justify all the money they sank into development. The Navy is really pissing me off. They've spent tens of thousands if not more, and they've ended up with blue camouflage utilities and service uniforms that are bad copies of the Marines. Why even bother with all the "field testing?" Three out of four services have used BDU style utilities in every task imaginable for over a decade, but that's not enough? We needed a couple dozen sailors to tell us "Yep, they cover our shame alright, walking or behind a desk."
Not to mention, and I can't stress this enough, blue camouflage does not blend in with anything. There was a time when the mention of blue camouflage would have gotten you laughed out of the room. Apparently that time has passed in Millington.

I wore this is afghan, much better than wearing the regular ACUs under boddy armour, no zipper or velcro on stuff to get pressed into your body. The rank when worn on the acu over the zipper hits me right in the sternum and is very uncomfortable. This shirt pretty much fixes that, gets rid of all the useless pockets and velcro on stuff that is annoying.
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/4804/mcchas04st6.jpg
I found the multicam shirt by searching for multicam.
The army will eventually go to multicam, blends much better than any other paterns out there
