Ok as you all know, I've been waiting for a good pipe to be designed and released for the 1125.
We also all know that Drummer makes some kick ass cans for the Buells.
WELL, the Drummer is finally here.
The look

The sound

The price
$979.95...
Now I'm definatly waiting on the Spec Ops.

The sound is nice.
The look would be ok, if there were a chin fairing available.
The price is a bit high for a slip on.
I know it's a drummer.
I know it's adding 10+hp
I don't really care though. I just want more sound, good looks, and similar to stock performance.
I know Odie is working one up that will be done shortly. I'll wait to at least compare the two.
from the looks of it im assuming sound was their #1 goal and any power they made was incedental. and for that price id expect it to be titanium with 10+ welds

I've wanted one for some time. But they're way overpriced second hand(third hand?). And I've heard of it taking up to a year for ppl to receive theirs..

The sound is pretty good, but as you said, way too much for a slip-on.
:panic:
ouch, i just did some research on both companys. wish i knew people would pay full system prices for gutted stock mufflers a few years ago

The drummer for the 1125 isn't a gutted stocker, it's all new.
Pretty sure the Spec Ops will be as well.
Still... $$$

You don't know Drummer.
Though the price is WAY too much...good thing for me I don't own and 1125 and I already own a Drummer. Win Win.

I think I would have to look into a stainless or aluminum Hi-Perf car muffler with dual inlet/outlets and build my own for a couple of hundred bucks. I would hate to pay a $1000 for an under the engine slip-on muffler.
Maybe it wouldn't work, but for that kind of money I would be under the bike with a tape measure and a Summit Racing catalog figuring it out.

It's more than just a turbo muffler strapped to the bottom, this much I know. Kevin puts a lot of time into the design of his products.
Just not worth that money to me...

my first thought upon seeing it was someone welded a warlock up to the stock headers. were i someone who cared about those bikes, id be disapointed

Maybe it's just the vid, but I wasn't too impressed. :idk: I agree with the above statement and I am pretty sure that one could be found to work. Hell, by the time that you bought said muff, had it welded on and sent it off to be hot dipped, you'd still have less in it than what they want for the Drummer. :rockwoot:

but is it a G sick?
Without seeing and hearing Odie's offering, I have a hard time with it.
I've been emailing him... He said he is using the stock "shape" Not sure if that means gutting and redoing the stocker, or making an all new one with a similar design. He is also going mostly for sound, without losing power. Not really trying for power gains, but if they happen :idk: all the better.
And I'm quite sure that it will be cheaper than a G.
But black looks far better than the stainless one I had seen prior.

I get ya on that. The price is still over the top. But the look sure is nice. I'm interested in seeing what Odie has.

For half again the price of that slip-on, i can buy a titanium full system from K-factory for my RC. It definitely doesn't seem worth what is being asked. And someone mentioned waiting up to a year? I get pissed waiting a week for parts, a year is absolutely unacceptable

I wrote to him. 8 to 12 months. I've heard of people waiting over 14 months for a pipe from him.
I'd gladly spend the 500 on a pipe. But, waiting over a year? Fuck that.. Teach somebody how to weld all your parts together, and get some help in the shop. You might lose a few dollars of profit from each pipe, but there's obviously a demand, so the volume of sales will make up for it.

Oh, and just an FYI. The exhaust actuator failed open on my bike. It lost a bit of low end, but pulled like a champ through the rest of the revs. The only reason I got it fixed is because it was making me deaf.
I'm tempted just to gut one and make my own. I'll be out 100bucks for a stock pipe.. :idk:
MikeSP1
02-21-2009, 03:57 PM
I don't care how good the pipe is. Waiting over 6 months for a pipe is unacceptable. I don't care if it's made out of unobtainium and welded together with the souls of virgins, I'm not buying it. No matter who you are, your slip-on is not worth a thousand dollars and 6 months.

Again, you may not be familiar with the Drummer brand. Yes, it's a lot of money, yes, it's a long wait for the piece...but many Buell riders, myself included, swear by his product.

You can say that all you want...but he's got a list of people a mile long will to pay AND wait....and ALWAYS HAS.

The desire for exclusivity breeds irrational behavior.
Just look at the people who paid $70k+ for custom choppers that don't ride any better (often, not even as well) as production bikes.
Yes, the Drummer looks & sounds good... yes, I bet it's tough as nails... but I'm not sure I'd cough up a grand and wait 6 months. :idk:

I see your rationale. I wouldn't pay it either....and I've got a Drummer now.

I would be... but if something comes out that looks and sounds decent for under a G that I can get my hands on before I leave/get back from Kosovo, then that's the ticket for me (ie Spec Ops)

Yup. Seen that before.
Don't like the look
Don't like the sound
Don't like how lean it makes the bike run
If I wanted a GP exhaust look and sound, I would have bought a R6

i was gonna write out something about how you should be buying a pc III or V with a pipe but a little back searching told me that dynojet avoids buell like the plague. im really curious why, i mean they make shit for benneli for cryin out loud..
ps, in what way does that sound like an r6?

All you need to tune a buell is a laptop.
ECM Spy is your friend..
then why bitch about a good flowing pipe

i was reffing cutty's remarks about the d&d. and im also curious why no one has hacked open a drummer to see whats been supposedly done in there

There's nothing done in there except a different length, removed internals and possibly some packing. His original didn't even have his patented billet end cap. It was just shortened.

On the 1125's drummer, prob because it's a G to get one, so they don't want to hack it right away.
As for the R6 comment, it was more the GP styling of the pipe than the sound, but I want a nice deep rumble with my V twin, not a scream.
And up until recently there wasn't a way to F with the tune of the ECM on the 1125's. I guess now there is, but it's a program that is beyond me.
i very much doubt you'll ever get a scream out of a twin. firing order is all wrong for starters

Scream is a loose term, as in comparison to what it SHOULD sound like.
