Oh no it don't chica! The cartridge store sells the whole fucking kit for $40,nyahh,nyahh,nyahh!!! Besides,my problem with printers has always been that they aren't worth buying the ink for them. This printer has all of the printing capabilities that I want (9600 dpi for example) plus it can save me money because it uses ink down to 1 pico liter as opposed to 2 or even 4 like my old Dell did AND because it uses separate tanks for every color,I don't have to buy an entire new color cartridge because I ran the red ink out even though I still have lots of blue or yellow left. Each color retails for about $14 but I've seen them for $10 at regular stores. Both Canon and Kodak have this "ink save" feature. I've printed a couple pics and you'd think they were from the Photo Shack.

Yes, that's what I meant. Your camera phone isn't going to do it justice. Poor lens and over sharpened image doesn't make for good prints.

I also have an old Fuji DSLR and my new camera phone is 8 meg...but I'm sure you're right that it won't be great but for 4X6s and such it should be ok,right? Real Canon, why? There's a "color" kit with the 4 normal inks and the black pigment ink is separate. Even from Best Buy it's only about $60 total. Although,if it came to that,I'd probably get a new printer if I could get it at these prices...shit,I almost decided to buy two just for the ink!

Well,if you ever make it down here I'll give you my Dell 924 printer/scanner/copier. It needs ink or you can have the cartridges refilled, but I don't recommend it. I tried that and it sucks! Shit,I saw a Lexmark AIO at Walmart that's WiFi for $40...it's amazing how cheap shit has gotten.

If you're going to use it to print pictures, then it's "Real Canon BECAUSE." The cheap, third party inks are hard to colour balance and frequently mess shit up in the printer.

Yea,I always heard that 5 meg was equivalent to 35 mm although I understand about lenses and etc,if the picture is in focus and I'm printing an 8X10 on a 9600 dpi printer,I should be ok right? The other thing I don't get is why your "higher end" model is only 4800 dpi but has more nozzles and prints better pics?BTW that's a nice looking printer...my printer was wondering if she has a boyfriend?

For 8.5x11 I would say you need a minimum of 5MP, but after that, lens quality, focus quality, and color balancing become more important IMO.
Also you need to study what kind of compression algorithm is being used.

I've seen quality 30X20 prints out of a 5MPix Olympus E-1. A travel/tourism shooting acquaintance of mine has had 30 FOOT banners up on the walls of Skydome, taken with his Canon 20D. You have to start with a quality shot; good camera, good lenses. from there you can up-scale to ridiculous levels. A little 5mm sensor with a 7.5mm lens just doesn't cut it, especially not when the 'camera' has been tweaked for consumer style output (over-saturated, over-sharpened).

Very, very good so far...although I apparently don't have the correct camera...J/K! As far as I can tell the pics look really good, heck I haven't even used my Picassa,Photoshop,Kodak or Canon programs to fix anything yet....I'm just printing them straight up and they look ok to me. As far as I'm concerned for $35 (after rebate) I don't see how I could have gone wrong!

Just very damn close. if you look at the XIF data it's only 40mm. ;)
Out in the Marshall Islands when i was supporting SMDCK, they'd have fireworks on Independence Day (my fav holiday btw) barge is about 800ft off the beach, fireworks pretty much exploding just over your head, it's something I don't think you could experience much anywhere else.

Not bad, not bad at all. I'm going to have to get that to the wifey and see if I can't finally convince her to head up Norht for a visit. For some odd reason she doesn't wanna visit Canada.. Just tell her that she won't have to wear a winter coat up here in summer. One of my high school teachers, way back when, used to work as a border guard and told us that he lost count of the number of Americans who came to the border and asked how far they would have to drive in order to see an igloo.
