I know it's been discussed before, but I don't care...

Who do you use? What is your plan?

I currently have Verizon - 450 minutes and unlimited texting, $65/mo + tax.

I am thinking about switching to get a better deal as I want to upgrade to a BlackBerry and whatnot... I want good coverage nationwide as sometimes I travel. Verizon has been fantastic as far as that's concerned...

Verizon has the best network in the states, no question. It's pricey compared some other deals. I get a fat TVA discount though, so that makes me happy.

Me, Corey, Ebbs, and Quick all have the BB Storm and like it. Once the new OS or if you are capable of upgrading to one of the stable leaked OSes, it's much better than the standard laggy OS.

Nothing really beats the iphone though, but AT&T blows goats in coverage, especially for travel.

BB Storm has a sim card and GSM capabilities, it's a worldwide phone that's got access to the much greater coverage CDMA network in the US.

If you get a BB, you can kill off texting and block it and have everyone email you instead of txt you. Anyone who can text, can email from their phone. You can also email to their txt email addresses just like txting. Easy way to save coin.

ATT. 450 minute plan. They blow goats for quarters...steer clear....unless you're into that sort of perversion.

Verizon 450 plan. No data plan of any kind. I get a 15% discount through work. All of my friends and family are on Verizon so I get to talk to them without using any minutes.

Everything he said. I switched from AT&T to Verizon. AT&T actually had good customer service, but their cell service eats dick. I had a lot of dropped calls or calls that would be routed straight to voice mail with no notification from my phone. No thanks.

And I just don't buy the iPhone as the wonderphone. It has some great features, without a doubt, but when the phone part of it is all but useless, what's the point? I bought an iPod touch recently. It's all the good parts of the iPhone without the shitty phone part or the garbage camera. I'll stick to my Storm, where I can actually have phone calls without them dropping out, or send an MMS message *gasp* or cut and paste.

I really wasn't considering the Storm, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. I dunno... I just like actual buttons.

That email/text thing is fantastic... never even thought of that. If I were to text you, I would put in your email addy instead of your phone number... and it just works as a text?

That's actually pretty awesome.

yep, you just need to figure out what each carrier's email txt format is, like verizon is:

XXXX represent numberes, just making up a phone number

865988XXXX@vtext.com for text
865988XXXX@vzwpix.com for media messages. I usually just send to media messages.

Yeah some people prefer buttons, there are some nice full button BBs with verizon.

Go to crackberry.com to look at reviews for each phone once you figure out which ones verizon offers.

Here's my list I snagged a while ago and saved. I used it mostly to mail ringtones to my old phone and to friends phones. Most of them are still up to date, but some might have changed. Dunno if Amp'd is even in business anymore.

Alltel = xxxxxxxxxx@message.alltel.com
Amp'd Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@vtext.com
AT&T = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net
Boost Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@myboostmobile.com
Centennial Wireless = xxxxxxxxxx@myblue.com
Cingular (AT&T) = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.mycingular.com
Einstein PCS = xxxxxxxxxx@einsteinmms.com
Nextel = xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.nextel.com
Sprint = xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com or xxxxxxxxxx@pm.sprint.com
T-Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@tmomail.net
US Cellular = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.uscc.net
Verizon Wireless = xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com
Virgin Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@vmobl.com

We're with AT &T... have been for years, probably won't ever change. Coverage is great, customer service has always been fine (the few times we've needed it) and since we've been with them for so long, we have oodles of upgrades and rollover minutes.

We're on a family plan (2 lines) with added media and txt -- I think it's like 800 shared minutes, nights and weekends are 'free' and calls to other AT&T #'s don't count against our minutes. We pay about $125/mo (that's including all the taxes, fees, etc...), and truth be told, we COULD downgrade it, because we never come close to using all of our minutes or txt messages.

Coverage is great

How much have you traveled with it beyond standard routes and cities? I had it and have friends who have it. AT&T severly suffers off the beaten path and that's probably where OSP needs it the most with his adventures on two. That's the main reason I swapped, it would be nice to have an iphone or another super cool phone (verizon for years had phones 2 years old as their "new" phones cause of their strict policies), but it's hard to use the phone part that you pay for, when there is no service. It's hard to find places my verizon phone won't work compared to my old AT&T phone where it was hard to find placees it did work.

OSP in your case for verizon, I would probably look at the Blackberry 8830 if you want a full QWERTY keyboard.

AT&T 650 minutes + rollover minutes + 200 text per month...no I don't text much. $40.00 a month.

I live between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, two large cities with supposedly excellent coverage area for AT&T. I know this because they told me every time I called to complain about dropped calls and my phone going straight to voicemail that I was in an excellent coverage area and shouldn't be having these problems. But still, didn't matter much.

Why an 8830 as opposed to the 8330? Or the eventual 9030? Unless OSP is in a field where a camera phone is a no no, the 8330 is a slightly more capable phone, and the 9030 is going to be even better.

8830 is a nice phone and the keyboard is nice too, but it lacks a camera and is very much geared towards the business client, much more than the 8330 is. The 8330 Curve has all the featuers of the 8830, plus a camera, slightly better battery life, and a little more flash memory. It's slightly smaller too, if that means much of anything. The trade off between the two is the 8330 having a camera and more flash memory, and the 8830 having dual band abilities and a slightly better keyboard.

AT&T, 3 phones, two with full data and texting usage unlimited, 3rd phone has texting unlimited, one of our phones is the BB Bold (it ROCKS!). They all have yahoo, msn and aim messengers and we have 1400 minutes and pay about $160 a month.

I'll be honest, I haven't done shit for research on phones yet... One of my minions at work just got a Pearl and it's super fucking money awesome. I like it cause it's not ginormous, but still has the functionality.

Really the only things I want are:

Texting (or email txt)
Internet
Instant email updating (BB rocks)
Camera (quality not a big deal cause it's just cock picks to various girls)
and something that's not as big as my wireless keyboard at home (old ginormous BB's FTL)...

Then it's between the Pearl and the Curve, as the 8830 lacks a camera. The Curve has a full QWERTY keyboard and the Pearl has a SureType keyboard that's kind of a bastardized version of a QWERTY and a T9 keyboard. Both have the excellent email and texting abilities of the Blackberry line, both have decent internet capabilities. The Pearl is definitely the smaller of the two, but even with a full keyboard the Curve isn't a huge phone. I've had both, and if texting is important to you, I'd lean more towards the full QWERTY of the Curve rather than the SureType setup on the Pearl. The SureType keyboard will hit most of your words no problem in normal texting, but there are a few words that it gets a little hung up on, especially if you swear a lot (like me). I ended up getting the Curve to replace the Pearl because having a full keyboard was something that I really wanted, and it was definitely worth the slightly bigger phone to have.

JARVIS518 (Phil) and I have verizon. We're on a family plan. Just our 2 phones. 700 minutes/month w/ unlimited text and IN calling (free to all verizon-which most of our friends and family are).

I will never leave verizon. We could probably downgrade on minutes, but 700 is the smallest family plan they offer. I text like a fiend so the unlimited is amazing. If I have a limit, even if it's 10,000, I will go over it. We went without texting for 2 years but when we renewed our contract we added it back in. We both have the enV. It's a great phone. He has orange, I have green. I'd like to upgrade to some sort of blackberry or PDA with a data plan/email/internet, but we still have about a year on our contract so we'll see what they have to offer when the time comes.

Our bill is about $135/mo with all taxes and fees included.

I have T-Mobile 3000 anytime minute 49.99 per month plus $4.99 per month for 400 texts. Also,I can read/reply to my email on my yahoo account so I suppose I could get all my texts as emails. BTW T-Mobile has the BB Flip,

http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Cell-Phone-Detail.aspx?cell-phone=BlackBerry-Pearl-Flip-8220-Red

Which offers WiFi calling, the service from T-Mobile that allows you to make unlimited calls from your home or T-Mobile "Hot Spot" for $9.99 per month. I also think that the Storm is kick ass but I like to carry my phone in my pocket too much for that huge exposed screen...

Oh I almost forgot, there's also the G1 if you're not TOTALLY in love with BB.

Yes. Blackberry's run Java programs, so any program written in Java and designed for the Blackberry OS will run on a Storm (and other BB's as well). There's quite an extensive 3rd party offering out there, ranging from the free shit written by regular BB fanatics to the big company offerings that vary in price.

I believe so, though though there are a decent number of people with unlocked Storms running on ATT and Tmobile at EDGE speeds. If you want 3G speed though, you'd be shit outta luck unless you're on EVDO.

No wifi. As far as I know, there are no Verizon phones, blackberry or otherwise, that are WiFi capable.

There's a new Phantasy Star Universe game being released soon to the PSP, and the Sega Collection features Phantasy Star 2, 3, and 4 if you're looking for the classics.

I like the G1, but that white/beige is fucking terrible. Looks like it's part of an old PC from 1980.

I had T-mobile for a couple years and they treated me well... I only switched to Verizon cause T-Mobiles phones sucked the dick of the donkey.

Now that they have better offerings.... I'm just not sure about how good their nationwide coverage is... I know going cross country with Verizon, they have their shit together.

It's not something I'd use super often, but with my friends being more and more scattered around the US, me being in FL, and having family in OH... I could see myself doing more and more travelling. Then again... I guess if it really sucked ass I could switch back... Hmm...

I see you got Verizon and a BB. Good choice. It's the best option.

I think I have
1350 min
unlimited within network
unlimited text, email, data, BB messenger, etc

I have the pearl (8130 i think?), SureType works well once it learns some of your words and you get used to it very quickly.

I like to carry my phone in my pocket so the smaller size of the pearl over the curve is a deal maker.

Is it a limitation on the size of the pics you're trying to send? Have you tried knocking down the resolution on the pictures you're trying to send to the vzwpix address to see if it's being filtered out for being over a certain size?

No, I can't send a message without any pictures....

Verizon family plan-4 phones-unlimited everything-roughly $200.00
With teenagers it was the way to go. My daughter can send over 1,000 text in a month without even blinking
The kids have cheaper phones (they want BB they can pay for 'em), I have the indestructible phone (so far rings true, dropped it 150' down a mnt and still works, worked all day in pouring rain, still works) Jeeps has the new BB storm and he seems to love it although he sometimes boob dials me if he hit his chest on something while at work. His has all the bells and whistles and seems to work great.

I didn't want yours.

A love like ours will never die...

The novelty if this device constantly re-enforces my decision to buy it.... Like right now I'm taking a dump at Cracker Barrel... Pooping and TWFixing simultaneously. Money.
