The wife and I have been shopping around for new trucks for the last few weeks. All of the new trucks are nice, but for 35k+ we just couldn't stomach the payment.

So we picked up this jem today instead. It's an 85 C10 Silverado, 305 w/ 144k, all original with one respray in the factory color. The paint and interior are perfect. Air blows cold and this thing drives better then some trucks 10 years newer. I had a 87 K5 and really like these trucks. I'm stoked we got this one!

Nice truck man. I have worked on many of those over the years, but it's been a while since I have done anything with them.

Haha :rockout:

I plan on leaving the 305 in there till it decides to punch out and then replace it with a 350.

Would that be the cam-flattening 305?

I suppose.

I've heard plenty of stories about these engines, but have never seen one fail. Hopefully this one stays strong for a few years.

I imagine it'll be fine.
Maintenance is obviously cheaper and easier than most modern engines. :dthumb:

Thats a nice condition 85...and its nice to see 2 GMs in the stable. lol

The 305s last long, but they are known to wear out cams. I would suggest changing the oil with synthetic. It will stick to the cam lobes better during startup.

Thanks for the heads up. Would switching to synthetic on a high mileage motor cause any problems?

...and the s10 isn't mine. I had a 99 Sonoma in the body style and you couldn't pay me to own another small truck. :panic:

Nice truck.

My gramps had an older chev (looks around the same time/age).

Damn thing sounded great even stock.

The nicest thing about that truck? No depreciation! Ten years from now your new truck probably would be worth about 20% of what the sticker OTD price was, if not less. That thing? Probably worth damn near the same amount you paid for it. I am buying a old tow-vehicle in the next year or two, putting some work into it.

Shouldn't :idk:
Just be sure to match the viscosity to your climate and the way you do most of your driving.

Synthetic isn't going to cause any issues other than burning a tad more during warmup since it doesn't thicken as with conventional. Therefore you need to check the level more often.

Congrats! I always loved that body style....now with all the $$$ you saved over new, get some new upper/lower control arms, drop spindles, 14" Slotted Brake Rotors and matching oversized calipers for up front, Do the disc brake conversion in the rear along with a shackle drop kit, some nice rims - 20X8 up front and 20X10 in the rear and you'll have a truck that handles as nice as it looks!

Cpngratulations. Those are great reliable trucks and not a bad platform to go little nuts on (hot rod) if you are of a mind to,

That's an 85? Looks like an older body style, for some reason.

From what I've read 85 was a transitioning year for a few different body designs.

Here are a few pics I shot last week.

Now you need ARE or Cragar wheels, a big dash-mounted tach, and a dual exhaust system.

It's 2009, man... '85 IS old. The platform was essentially unchanged from '73-'87 ('90 for the Suburban, Blazer, and 1-tons). That grille style was used from '83-'87.

So... a C-10 Silverado with air, cruise, tilt wheel, PL/PW, aftermarket stereo (I assume... they didn't have kick-panel speakers in '82, at least). And it all still works, the cab corners haven't rusted out, and all of the trim is on?? Nice score! :rockwoot:

Ah, and no scuzzy stone guards in front of the rear wheel wells.... How did I forgot about those?

Thanks! I've only found a couple small areas of rust on the truck. Were talking smaller then a penny, but rust none the less. Just tossed on some new tires up front and did an oil change. Found out it has a nice 1904 Edelbrock 4 barrel on it as well.:rockwoot:

No doubt. Most of them look more like mine...

That thing looks pretty good actually. Still the original paint?

I'm very close to buying a new truck, but I'm reluctant to get rid of this one. I spent all weekend heaving firewood in and out of this old boy, and it got me thinking, would I really want to subject a new truck to this sort of beating?

The wife and I looked at new trucks as well. Between the high payments and the lack of stability of the big 3 we decided this was the better route.

A little Line-X in the bed will make all the difference. ;)
