easily used from your phone with text messages.
people can "follow" you

don't know if I want to be "followed"

A brand-specific camera group that I'm a member of (in the UK) is going international and trying to tie everything together via Twitter, while building new sub-groups in other countries. I can't keep up with the websites that I'm operating/maintaining now, so having a blog, also, wouldn't make things any easier. I may ultimately have to, but not right now.

Twitter is basically exactly like the status update on facebook. My twitter and facebook accounts are cross tied. I use both and update my status on facebook through twitter a lot because facebook is blocked here, but twitter's not.

There's a good Twitter app for blackberry, naturally. Actually, there's a few right now, but Twitterberry is the cleanest.

the only thing that sucks about the facebook one... which i'm experiencing now with Kat's new photo... is when i get tagged in a photo... I get all resonses to that photo.... so I've gotten like 12 in the last day just because someone commented on Kat's photo that she tagged me in.... wonder if I can turn notification off in normal face book... cause on my phone I cant....

What the fuck is all this shit?! I thought myspace was that website to catch a predator invented for guys who like 14 year olds. And Facebook? Twitter? First of all, they sound gay. And I'm not going to go online and talk to a bunch of people who aren't real on some weird e-billboard. I do that here.

Facebook is a little different than myspace, there are still the same fags who have 1000s friends they don't know, but most people just have people they do know. It uses real names instead of screen names and doesn't have any of that gay custom page themeing, just a nice simple clean design that's the same for everyone. Its a decent way to keep up with people you do know that don't live in the same area.

This. The people I know on Facebook seem a little older than the ones on Myspace. The demographic seems to be towards a slightly older crowd. The one thing I hate is the two or three people who have 8000 useless apps set to notify whenever they hit some benchmark. Congrats on your Superwall. Have fun tending to your egarden. Twitter has a fantastic option for clubs or groups. I have one for my daughters' swim team - it gives parents the option to receive text messages. I can send an update to everyone, and they can have it sent via text to their phones.
Example - practice is closed or a meet changes locations at the last minute. I now don't have to pay for a service to send this information.
I've thought about doing it for trackdays....

Twitter Unveils New Premium Accounts
By Brian Briggs - Twitter Dove Member, follow me @ twitter.com/briggsb
San Francisco, CA – Twitter co-founder and CEO Evan Williams today announced part of the company's long-awaited business model: Twitter Premium accounts.
TwitterTwitter has experienced phenomenal growth since its inception, but up until now it has remained a mystery what it would do to generate income. Many have speculated that premium accounts would be one way, and now that has been confirmed.
Williams explained, "Celebrities and large corporations have begun flocking to Twitter for their social media needs, and growth has accelerated. Many users have expressed willingness to pay for accounts, and now we give them that opportunity."
Williams stressed that free accounts will still be available to all users, and that only those wanting more services would pay.  Premium accounts will come in four tiers: Sparrow, Dove, Owl and Eagle.
The details of the accounts are as follows:
* Sparrow ($5/month) – Users get 145 character limit, 5 extra random followers.
* Dove ($15/month) – Users get 160 character limit, 25 extra random followers, 1 random celebrity follower, auto-spell check, "Fail Whale" T-shirt.
* Owl ($50/month) – Users get 250 character limit, 100 extra random followers, 2 random celebrity followers, 30 minutes on recommended list, auto-spell check, "Fail Whale" hoodie.
* Eagle ($250/month) – Users get 500 character limit, 1000 extra random followers, 3 celebrity followers of their choice, 5 hours on recommended list each month, Twitter Concierge for Tweeting while user is asleep or busy (and more), auto-spell check, "Fail Whale" tuxedo, custom "Fail Whale" page when service is down.
Users in any tier will be able to purchase an EmbellishTwit add-on for $100/year, which directs tweets to a well-educated offshore employee who will embellish tweets. For example, "Just had a whole wheat bagel and coffee for breakfast," becomes "Just got in from clubbing all night and Heidi Klum is spreading brie on a baguette just flown in on the Concord for my breakfast."
Rumors of a even higher level of service the secret "Black" account, which has J. K. Rowling, Stephen King and other famous authors write your tweets have not been confirmed.
Analysts peg Twitters value near the GDP of Canada.

When I first started texting I got the 400 texts. That lasted all of a month. I have unlimited internet (another feature I used to keep my entertained at work) and texting. Unfortunately, I got my phone on special and part of my contractual obligation on getting a free smartphone was keeping internet on it. It's only a $7 difference between the minimal package and the one I got so I keep it. :idk: If I drop the internet, they're going to charge me full price for my phone.

To clarify....my father is on Facebook.
He has taken it a bit too seriously. He rarely checks it but every once in a while he does and then feels the need to have a serious discussion with me about how concerned he is about my life.
You know how you're pissed off and sometimes you change your status to reflect that? Or even put something funny as your status? Well he doesn't quite "get it" and it results in a very long discussion about where I'm going in life and how I'm basically going to hell.
If you knew anything of my family life it would make sense. :idk:

He has taken it a bit too seriously. He rarely checks it but every once in a while he does and then feels the need to have a serious discussion with me about how concerned he is about my life.
You know how you're pissed off and sometimes you change your status to reflect that? Or even put something funny as your status? Well he doesn't quite "get it" and it results in a very long discussion about where I'm going in life and how I'm basically going to hell.
If you knew anything of my family life it would make sense. :idk:
It would cause more of a shitstorm to de-friend my father than it's really worth.
Having read some of the past stuff, I have to question your last statement. I still say drop-em.

I haven't played much with the privacy settings on FB.. but I know there is a way to change how an individual can view your profile, but I don't know if that extends to status updates or not.
IMHO.. I would tell him that you are a grown woman and capable of handling your own life at this point. But I'm kinda blunt that way.. may not be the most tactful advice.. and my mom still hasn't really gotten the clue that I'd like her to butt out of my business sometimes.

Ahhhhhh, gotcha. Couple years ago my Mom kept asking to add me on MySpace, and for that same reason, I never accepted.
I wonder if there's something in your privacy settings where you can limit what specific people can see?

Found it... go to privacy settings > profile > Under status and links, select customize > You can exclude specific people from seeing status/links updates that you make.

I'm sure you coulda found it too, but it was one of those things that got me thinking, and then my OCD took over and I had to know just to satisfy my own curiosity (and just in case I may need that option in the future).

My mother and father are on there. I also have some of my mothers friends on there. I post what I want to post. My mother will make comments about some of my dirty status up dates but she has heard me say worse so its not bad.
I know my brother blocked my mother from seeing some things but I can't remember what.

From what I hear it doesn't do anything that Facebook can't. So I don't really see the point of it. I still having even looked at the Twitter site but from what I hear it seems like Facebook would be a full suspension mountian bike with disk brakes and so on. Twitter is like a unicycle with a flat tire and no pedals.
My sister uses both. She said she is on about 4 or 5 stars spots. One person she gets updates from is P Diddy. She also checks it on her Iphone.

Scientists warn of Twitter dangers
(CNN) -- Rapid-fire TV news bulletins or getting updates via social-networking tools such as Twitter could numb our sense of morality and make us indifferent to human suffering, scientists say.
New findings show that the streams of information provided by social networking sites are too fast for the brain's "moral compass" to process and could harm young people's emotional development.
Before the brain can fully digest the anguish and suffering of a story, it is being bombarded by the next news bulletin or the latest Twitter update, according to a University of Southern California study.
"If things are happening too fast, you may not ever fully experience emotions about other people's psychological states and that would have implications for your morality," said researcher Mary Helen Immordino-Yang.
The report, published next week in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Online Early Edition, studied how volunteers responded to real-life stories chosen to stimulate admiration for virtue or skill, or compassion for physical or social pain. iReport.com: Growing pains for Twitter, Facebook?
Brain scans showed humans can process and respond very quickly to signs of physical pain in others, but took longer to show admiration or compassion.
"For some kinds of thought, especially moral decision-making about other people's social and psychological situations, we need to allow for adequate time and refection," said Immordio-Yang.
She said the study raises questions about the emotional cost, particularly for young people, of heavy reliance on a torrent of news snippets delivered via TV and online feeds such as Twitter.
She said: "We need to understand how social experience shapes interactions between the body and mind, to produce citizens with a strong moral compass."
USC sociologist Manuel Castells said the study raised more concerns over fast-moving TV than the online environment.
"In a media culture in which violence and suffering becomes an endless show, be it in fiction or in infotainment, indifference to the vision of human suffering gradually sets in."
Research leader Antonio Damasio, director of USC's Brain and Creativity Institute, said the findings stressed the need for slower delivery of the news, and highlighted the importance of slow-burn emotions like admiration.
Damasio cited the example of U.S. President Barack Obama, who says he was inspired by his father, to show how admiration can be key to cultural success.
"We actually separate the good from the bad in great part thanks to the feeling of admiration. It's a deep physiological reaction that's very important to define our humanity."
Twitter, which allows users to swap messages and links of 140-characters or less, says on its Web site that it sees itself as a solution to information overload, rather than a cause of it.
This function, It says, "means you can step in and out of the flow of information as it suits you and it never queues up with increasing demand of your attention."
