compared to G37

(apparently the Hyundai has a drivetrain protection scheme that screws with acceleration )

How very disappointing. Far from the 306 they advertise. Although I did see a link on car and driver or road and track to Rhys Millens new Red Bull sponsored Gen Coupe drift machine and it was stroked out and turboed to 560 hp I think. So it at least has build ability to it. I will look for the link.

Its weight is what's disappointing. Apparently it's heavier than a 370Z.

Hyundai's vehicles have long been regarded for their good value, but the new Genesis Coupe is especially enticing from a financial standpoint: A base 2.0-liter turbo model starts at $22,000 (5-speed automatic model with manual gear selection is $23,250); the same car in "Track" guise runs $26,750. The base V-6 model is $25,000 with the Track edition priced at $29,500.

What's Hot:
Looks as good as it handles
Affordable, more fuel-efficient 4-cylinder turbo model
Feels well built

What's Not:
V-6 lacks midrange torque
Interior not nearly as plush as Genesis sedan's
Child-size-only rear seat head room

Cars to Compare:
Chevrolet Cobalt SS
Infiniti G37
Scion tC

The Hyundai Lambda V-6 engine has been stroked from 3.8 to 4.1 liters and a Turbonetics turbocharger pushes the output to nearly 550-bhp with 520 lb.-ft. of torque. That's plenty to light up the rear 265/40-18 Toyo Proxes R1R tires and then set them ablaze for fans.

Remember that's 279 at the wheels. They advertise 306 at the crank

Apples to oranges...

370z is a 2 seater

First, the Genesis tips the scales at just 3,488 pounds — 221 pounds lighter than the G37. Porkiness has long been a valid gripe about any car built on Nissan's FM platform and the G is no exception.

Stats aside, the Genesis coupe is the first Hyundai I've seriously considered buying since my '99 Elantra.

And thats only about a 9% loss which is actually real good.

Means if the dyno results are true then the engine is underrated and the drive train protection scheme is killing performance.

Pretty much.

Doesn't matter........Back seats don't always add much weight. A 911 is a 4-seater.

It's the market segment that matters. This car is marketed towards 20-somethings......It's not supposed to be a luxury GT.

"Just" 3,488 pounds? That's a fucking joke. Who wrote that, USA Today? Motor Trend, with their usual "every car is great" prose?

Well it slots well against the V6 Mustang and still ?? Camaro price wise. HP is on par with the RX8 albeit at a huge weight disadvantage. Price might make it the sports car to have for the uninitiated performance fan. Still has a great warranty:idk:

I like it. No way it is on the level with a 370, V8 2+2 sportscars but might steel some accord coupe fans, miata buyers, and the active 20 somethings that appear to be its target demographic.

My question is have you read about the 09 Solistice GXP Targa?

Read up on it and it doesn't fair too well.

I was disappointed because I thought it was going to be the spiritual replacement of a 240SX.......with more emphasis on light weight and handling as opposed to power and luxury.

That 2.0 turbo is hyundai's version of mitsu and dodge's current turbo used in the evo and srt4 respectfully. Ought to be a high level of parts interchange. Only a fool would take the six

That's what I was thinking. Plus the four is probably lighter.

Comparing that to teh RX 8 Is a Joke...Talk about a car that has no Feel of anything...It felt Flat when I drove it...like it wasnt goign anywhere...and the Rear end would chatter everytime I chirped 2nd or tried to get the ass end to slide out.

350Z is a nice car to drive in stock form...Dunno about the 370z Yet but THere nice looking...And as far as the Genesis...I like it, I'd def rock one.

The RX8 is kinda underpowered but WTH it is a rotary...Not known for their torque. The fact that you couldn't induce oversteer with the throttle is attributed to the tight chassis and has made it quite popular with the SCCA racing crowd.

My 350Z didn't hang it out to well either. These kinds of sports cars take a roadracing technique similar to a 125 or 250 GP bike. Wide cornering arc to keep us speed and maximize mid corner, keep it in line and driving forward as opposed to the front end heavy American muscle cars that are best when using all that extra HP spinning the rear to finish a corner ala Superbikes....

makes for some real interesting thinking eh? Id love to see what some of the big tuning houses come up with. Hyundai tranny dodge crank and a mitsu head and its a 2.4 with on the fly valve timing and lift

Wonder what the transmission is rated for?

Thats the 25,000 dollar question right there. When i was shopping for a very silly car to reward myself for surviving three years in iraq my heart was at first set on the esprit. Only problem though is once i really started checking into it i discovered that they used a pug tranny...from a truck  thing could barely handle 300 wheel before it popped. And they were all out of production. Its a damn shame, that little yami (iirc) v8 is badass

I'd buy the G37. Sexy goes a long way and the Genesis is far from sexy.
