View Full Version : ARRGH...the frustration!

Okay, I need to have a bit of a venting session here.

I'm a teacher. I can't find a job as a teacher. I took a job that will take me down another career path (teaching-ish related eventually).

:rant:Two of my close friends are high school teachers. As a teacher, they annoy me to NO end.

They constantly complain about how hard their job is (it's not..I've done it).

Neither of them prepare any materials (or at least hardly prepare). They don't get to school until just before class and then they leave right after class.

To top it off, the one has her mother do ALL of her marking for her?

It frustrates me to NO end that a profession I'd love to be a part of, but can't get into because of the ridiculous politics it takes to get hired around here, continues to employ people that are so obviously not interested in taking pride in their work and actually teaching.

Thank you for "listening"!

The answer is simple: Kill your friend and we all move up one step in rank.

I can think of a few things I'd like you to teach me.

Small town? I hate the kind of politics and ass kissing that goes on in small towns. And fighting relatives of relatives for positions that they are not even qualified for...:panic:

It's not a small town. It's just that in Ontario there are approximately 7000 teachers every year left without positions.

A few years ago there was a retirement boom so they opened up a lot more spots in education faculties. Now we're seeing how the boom has been filled but they haven't closed off that enrollment ($$$) so it's a profession that is hellaciously over-prescribed.

Basically you have to know someone to get in. They don't care about your experience, grades, etc. You just have to know someone. :idk:

That's a shame... this is why kids are the way they are today also... I remember my teachers, or some of them being so caring... just like you are sounding.

Best of luck and hope you get a gig soon...

Besides, who doesn't want a hot teacher that rides?

I know where I'd like to get into...;)

Thats Shitty Kell, Kick em in the kneecaps and tell them to get the fuck out. Or write the school acting like an Irate parent??

It's just kind of frustrating to me because it's bad for both the education system and teacher reputations.

I loved teaching and I tried my best with it. I'd be furious as a parent to know that something was marked by the teacher's mother rather than the teacher.

I don't pretend to know what the market and requirements are for teachers up in the frozen tundra. I got my start in Special Education because the requierements were different and the demand was higher, but it is still allowing me to both work and go to school to finish my degree(s). After just a cursory search (http://www.workopolis.com/work.aspx?action=Transfer&View=Content/JobSeeker/JobSearchResultView&SearchId=54687434&lang=EN) it apppears that there is more in the private sector (Montessori, et al) than in govt funded schools in your area. Might be a way to get started.

As for the type of special ed I'm in (level 5 emotional disturbed kids) it is both the toughest and most challenging, yet also the most rewarding job I've had ( and I've had a few). Yet there are flks that also specialize in autism, or deaf, or sight impaired, or ADHT, ect. In the states, there is a constant demand for folks teaching this clientle; perhaps that is also the case in the Great White North?

Just an idea.......

Baby seal clubbing and trap line management are must-have skills. If you can't teach the basics, then more advanced stuff doesn't matter.

Damn OTB....

each time you post you get more mad respect from me.

My grandfather did a job along the same lines as you, then later in life he ended up working with the disabled helping them with job and life skills.

That does suck Kell, I hope something works out.
I agree with trying to get into a private school - you might be better off there.

I know what you mean about willing to work hard and doing a good job, yet the slackers are the ones still with jobs. Seems to be a theme anywhere - kind of like that one movie were the slacker keeps getting promoted. My husband busted but at his job, yet he is unemployed where the people that bitch and moan about working are still there. Go figure.

one of the reasons I stopped being a teacher: other teachers.
