Long story short,I got a call from my step mom that the Army is looking for me. Hmmmm... So I call the number and they refer me to a local recruiter. I call him and had a meeting with him. It seems that my Uncle Sam isn't quite done with me yet. I would be going in under a "reserve" status and doing some "specialized training". It's all up in the air right now, since the military doesn't know if it is coming or going with this new administration yet. If they need me I'll be there!:pat: Hell, maybe I'll meet up with Cutty in Kosovo!!! Heck,to be honest I thought I was too old to go back in but apparently the cut off is 42 but they take away the years you served from your age,so I qualify!:dthumb:

that's mixed feelings there.
last I heard Prez said he was going to increase the size of the military. I'm past that now I'm 43 and been out almost 20 years. they wouldn't want me back although right now it would be a paycheck. ;)
you get a promotion going back in don't you? in Desert Storm the people brought back were promoted one grade if I remember right.

Awesome. I doubt you'll be going to Kosovo though. If they want you back its really only for one place. Unless you really believe the President is actually pulling out of Iraq.

It's that damn Bush war machine at work again... Wait he's not president anymore?
Oh. I mean Obama just wants you in there to help spread peace around the world.

Don't know yet but it was mentioned. BTW I'm 43 and served 10 so my re-enlistment age is 33. If you served 4 years you should qualify for the reserve.

Despite my "pacifistic" tendencies I welcome the chance to go back believe it or not. I guess I'm very complicated but when I'm out,I'm out. When I'm in,I'm all in. This is NOT a jab at you but I don't want to play "Citizen Soldier" when I'm not in the military but if (and it's unlikely) I got sent back to the shit hole,I'd really only have a couple choices of missions,if you know my back ground then you know what those are. Most likely I'll be training others to go do the job.:dthumb: My guess is a job at Ft. Bragg. :idk: yet... shit I still have to pass the physical and the uh oh,psych evaluations, along with getting a security clearance,so we'll see.

Friend of mine's husband is in Iraq now as a private contractor. But he spent his whole life from 18 (40 now) in the military until he got a nice offer from a private contractor. Once Obama took office they moved people all around and he got demoted to take a $3600 a month paycut and then got shipped to the most dangerous base in Iraq.
Only reason I could see an anti-military president like Obama trying to get more people in the military is to have them raking leaves in some national forest and to say he grew jobs.

Hey I'm just as willing to rake leaves for my country as I am willing to kill for it. I just hope everything works out and I get the chance to serve again.
Thought you had a bum ass knee, or back or something. You did your time. They'll find someone to fill in the gaps.

haha yeah right! Like I said,I believe that this is to be a training position for me. I don't have any details as of yet, they're being pretty closed mouthed contingent on my ability to pass all of the requirements. We'll see what the next couple weeks bring.
To Dlit, yea I got injured but that only keeps me out of Airborne, not out of the Army. I can't have jump status but I should still be able to wear my wings...I guess that'll have to do. Between losing my jump status and my cheating wife,I made the mistake of getting out in the first place, maybe it's time I unfucked that dog. Anyway,we'll see what happens. I hope that I didn't over-hype this in any way,as I said,I'm going in under a reserve status and I'm not being issued a M24 or anything...

Not to start the "E-Penis" thing again but there was a time I could guarantee a "kill shot" at 800m. Believe it or not. Anyway,as hard as it is to believe for some people,I really believe in this country and what it stands for and I'm honestly willing to kill as many of "them" as it takes to prove it! Or in this case, train as many of ours to kill as many of theirs as possible! I've actually thought about this a bit behind all the arguments about weapons here and I guess it boils down to the fact that I don't wish to kill Americans,no matter how low,if I can help it. Or I'm just "skurred":idk:
Anyway, thanks for the well wishes,I honestly appreciate it. Hopefully,I can get through all the PAPERWORK,"hurry up and wait",and "dog and pony" show antics the military can't seem to do without!

Those are killer skills, man. (no pun intended)
I have no intention of reviving that other discussion. Your choices for how you do or do not interact with firearms in your civilian life are your own.
I honestly hope the military can put your skills to good use again. :dthumb:

Well I just gotta say "reserve status" or front lines my hat is off to anyone who is willing to stand up and defend me and my family!!! I wish I would have had my head screwed on right when I was younger I would have signed up to but I was a shit head and didn't do it. Not enlisting will forever be my biggest regret! Anyone who has ever defended this country is a real life hero to me! So Tigger and anyone else out there who has ever served from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU!!! I hope i one day get a chance to buy you a beer and shake your hands! You guys are the reason this country is the greatest on earth!!!:pat:

I wish people (liberals) would realize that everything they have is the result of our great founding fathers giving us a sound Constitution and a volunteer army that is willing to die to defend it.

sadly to many people. Theres nothing wrong with getting the money for signing up, in my opinion they have earned it. However, you gotta understand and accept what you have signed up for. My wife's cousin signed up so she could go to school for free and when she got called over she bitched and complained for months about the fact that she had to go! Another girl I know knew she was probably gonna get called over so she hurried up and got pregnant so she didn't have to go. I respect anyone who signs up just do it for the right reasons. Or at least understand and accept what COULD happen when you sign up.

Yea the way it works is they take your age and subtract your previous enlistment years. If you are just coming in then I guess that it would be 42,:idk:

tell me about it! me and the recruiter had a convo about that very subject. He's amazed and frankly, somewhat disgusted with the recent influx of new recruits now that Obama has become President. They all think that he's gonna pull all the troops home and they can get their college money without fear of having to defend this country!

but fucking do the job and don't bitch when shit is an inconvienence to you. yes the military sucks some times... civilian life sucks sometimes too... but regardless of which you think is better... you've signed a fucking contract... be a fuck'n man/woman... and fufill your agreement.

I don't think they've changed the cutoff for enlisting. As a new enlistment you have to join before your 27th (? might be 28) birthday to go active duty. To join the Reserves you have to enlist before your 35th bday.
Now, for prior service, they can bring you back anytime at any age they want if they have a need for you and your skills. They were pulling senior NCO's (50yo or so) back into the Marine Corps from retirement when I was in Kuwait in 02 because they had a shortage of them.
Tigger, good luck with it man. If they called me up today I'd give it some real serious thought too, especially if I could do active tours. Wouldn't want to do straight reserves again, at least with my old unit unless it's changed a lot.

Thanks Bro! Heck, the whole thing has already yielded a spectacular kind of fruit! The Recruiter is friends with the Sheriff here and saw that I had MP experience on my DD Form 214 and asked me if I would be interested in working in the County Detention center, Apparently, quite a few of the officers there are also reservists! They work 12 on/12 off shifts for only 14 days a month. The pay is good, the work is a LOT easier than what I do now and there is room for advancement as they plan to hire almost 50 more people in July and quite a few of the existing officers are getting into retirement age. I go in Mon to take the physical aptitude test. If I pass that, it should be smooth sailing!!! Boy things are really looking up!!! I may go from not knowing what the fuck,I was going to do to serving both my country and my community in one huge stroke!!!
