ok wait... you put all the time and effort into the chop.. I can see that. But upwards of $50K put into it if I remember correctly... and then you just sell it?

You must have gotten a hell of an offer.

Maybe I just wanted a change...

Change is good... if it's financially feasable.
Granted, I own nothing that is worth anywhere near $50K (unless you count the house that the bank owns) But I know I couldn't sell anything I have just for "change"

I shall sit idly by and await more info. Good luck and congrats (i hope/think)

Yep... gap under each corner of the door... oh well...

Yeah expensive change... but remember this... life is expensive and you can't take it with you.

That is stupid! Why the FOCK can't one of these companies roll somin worth a CHIT!

The motor is out of V-Rod and is a porchse motor. It can be setup right to kick some seroius arse! But not dead small motor stock. HD offers a whole line of Screamin Eagle setups and bore kits.

I like the Roger Bourget choppers better. No oil tank. They run the oil through the frame so the seat sits lower.

V8 choppers. those are pretty nice and with Dart engine components built by my close friend they are bullet proof.

A Victory something or other perhaps? or are you gonna build your own chopper? I"m awaiting an answer young man.

Victory... not a bad guess. At least american made. Young man? Hmmm... only young for a few more months.

WCC chopper... not a bad guess. But if it was anything super coolio custom it would be built from the frame up by me. However, that being said, do you think I would tackle said project this late in the game?

Uma...
She likes the look of the Nightrod, but not the feel. The Iron is not enough upgrade for the work... Only remaining option is the Nightster.
Unless she wants to get sporty on the XR?

As for Gas, I'm at a loss. I know the Rocker C would be a huge step back, BUT, I know it will be air cooled, it will be american made, and pretty sure it won't be a trike. GMan loves throwin the sparkies with hard parts.

Gas Man

Well bottom line... allow me to explain my reasoning and amounts for the trades...

Ok... so last year I started out with a bang when I revealed the Phoenix Chopper. It was an awesome acomplishment. Then had some problems with some electrical connectors which I fixed. Then the ignition fail, which I replaced. I had heat shields rattle loose, causing a constant retightening of them being an irritant. The trans nut came loose and had to be re-torqued and loctited (again). The open belt seem to cause more vibration. Even though all of this happened, it was still a BLAST to ride. The power, the look, the sound, everything was just jaw dropping. But I was done... had nothing more to do to the bike.

Then it came to the fact that either by bruised "mental" reliability or not wanting to ever take it anywhere for multiple reasons. Whether it is due to not wanting to get it wet, people screwin with it causing me to shoot them, or whatever. Coupled with the pending doom of EHC failure, top end rattle, this or that.

put all of that in the back of your mind.

Its a shame... a damn shame that in this economy. They are currently selling mostly stock used bikes around $18k. I had about $15k in aftermarket into the bike, that you normally get nothing out of. So what's a good trade in price? $15k stock? Anything for the aftermarket?

So lets throw the line out there and see if we get a bite.....

We start talking... the sporty trade is easy. Strip it down and take it in $7580 trade in value (actual trade would be about $5k), this all under the HD promo till the end of this month.

We start moving numbers on the chop. I wanted to clear enough money on the chop to cover the cost of a new bike for me. So the back n forth starts... $18k, show them pics... $19k... I push the "I buy 2 new bikes card". $20k.... nope... still need more boys... $21k. That is about $7k over normal trade which is about 50 cents on the dollar for the aftermarket stuff. Plus no selling hassle... we make the deal

Many can't believe it and few can understand my desire to keep up change.

So I stripped all the sportster aftermarket off cause they won't give me anymore on this promo...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Sportster/HomeStretch035.jpg

Then its just a matter of what to buy at this point and locating the exact unit in their stock or dealer trade. So at least now you know its from an HD dealer.

They picked up the bikes and now we wait with an empty garage...

Will update the exact picks when they come in and I have pics.

i completely understand the feeling of "theres nothing more to do to it" unless it breaks, which unfortunatly can happen any unexpected time being that its a custom-being that u live in a seasonal riding climate that can really ruin the riding season i imagine. i understand the change up, hopefully you get aclimatted to whatever you pick, and "make it yours"(u of all ppl cant ride 100% stock) before the snow melts over there. :dthumb:

The fat bob is nice but it's only got a 180 rear tire. Not sure why, but it looks like the Dyna's get a few more ftlb's of torque over the softails. There is only 1 HD that catches my eye and that's the Night Train. The rockers don't do it for me, I don't like the gap between the seat and the fender. I know that's what makes them a "rocker" but I don't like em.

Please don't tell me your getting a touring bike or a VRSC or whatever the fuck they are. HD doesn't make a rigid do they?

OK you little whinny bitches... I was going to tell you tonight anyway....

OK... guys... well I closed the loan and signed the papers on the bikes today.

When we went the other week to look at the various bikes there, Uma got to trying on different bikes. She realized she really likes the smallness of the sporty. But would love a change. So I got thinking more...

I would like to have a new project and something more practical. I like baggers and they are the "new" choppers.

Plus side... she's getting the UBER cool 2009 Nightster 1200 with silver/black denim. No pics of HER bike cause its got to be dealer traded in and it wasn't in yet, the guys were still on the road with it, I guess it came out of southern ohio.
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload/196293/images/XL1200N_01.jpg

I like the Nightster and it will probably also, when the wife's not around or riding it, be my small bike for around town.

They got my bike in the other day and the mechanic just got done going over it again (last dealership mechanic did as well, so that's 2 mechanics going over it which I like).

I like the look of the street glides but want the usefullness of a tour bag/trunk. Also, like the spot lights on the front. Hate the tall windshield on the Ultra. Like the usefullness and protection of the side bag bars. Like the lower fairing. Like the Ultra wheels over the Honda look Street Glide wheels. So already have the kit to make the trunk detachable, a short 4" black windshield and a bunch more extras.

So a 2009 HD Ultra Classic that once I'm done will be more like a "Street Classic"... Black Pearl with looks like a gun metal gray but because its a pearl it looks black then gray... its great. I've included with and w/o flash to help show the difference in the paint.

... Rae had the throttlemister and it wouldn't work for shit for her either... :idk:

I've installed a lot of Throttlemeisters (> 20 sets, mostly on BMWs). There is a 'trick' to getting the adjustment right. The primary cluprit for difficulty in operation is usually traceable to properly cutting out the end of the grip rubber to clear the attachment point. The other problem(s) for most of the installs is either in not cleaning out the inside of the open bar end or overtightening the adapter/insert into the end of the handlebar. If you have threaded bar ends, the adjustment is by moving the throttle tube assembly.

I've had 100% success in installing these and having happy users...

YMMV (and apparently has).

Well that's why I guessed the Road King and a regular Sportster 1200... he faked the criteria. He said that he wanted to get bothbikes with his trade in money free and clear,it's none of my business but I doubt he got both those bikes F&C for what he told us he got in trade...but :idk:

Gas Man
03-15-2009, 04:25 PM
Not F&C... like all things in life... want in one, and especially now a days... shit in the other!

Itgirl... I knew you would like them. We don't have bigger plans for her sporty as of yet. We got ALLOT going on this year with money out so we need some time to regroup. Just booked a vacay for mexico, and obviously all the home improvements... we have been spending like its money is going out of style...

She will get everything she had on her sporty on her nightster. The biggest difference is the uber cool new look and about 45% more power. I pick it up Tuesday and I'm excited to get it in the garage as well!!!

Now, I picked up the UC today... rode it to work where I'm at now... and OH BOY... let me tell you... ITS FUCKIN NICE!!! The tunes are awesome and while its not fast its not as slow as I was expecting. Plus... Tigger can verify that michigan roads this time of the year are SHIT!! But when I'm on that... its "What pot holes? I didn't feel no pot holes!"

I just read thru this entire thread... I'm in shock GasMan... I can't believe you got rid of the Chopper. Nice bikes though.

BTW... I myself have a cruiser now...but I won't make an entire thread of making people guess what it is. Ahh the joy of two bikes is awesome!

Well I got both the bikes in the garage....
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Mods003.jpg

I did some things to the Nightster the other day but haven't got the pics of it, cause I hit a road block... will get to that later once I get the new part.

So after a bike wash... I got the UC on the lift...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods012.jpg

Got the parts setup to go on... all kinds of stuff... the big box on the far right is all the parts for the trunk detach kit... I'm sure that will take some time to put on...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods008.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods009.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods010.jpg

New oil temp and level dipstick. Pretty slick dilly... all digital, tells you the oil temp and level. It even adjusts the level for the oil temp.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods013.jpg

I don't like the orange lenses on the front...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods014.jpg

So switch out the bulbs for the orange ones, and put on the smoked lens covers. Also, swapped out the front fender light bulb for a LED and a smoked lens there as well. Then ditched the front fender bumper. Bumpers belong on cars not on bikes!!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods017.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods018.jpg

Then carry that same theme to the rear. I don't like the orange in the rear. Always preferred the side lights to double as parking/brake lights as well as blinkers.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods023a.jpg

So I took off the seat to install the relay for the light change
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods020.jpg

Then here's the newer lens look
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods026a.jpg

Then I pealed off the stock pipes and put on the new Screamin Eagle II slip on mufflers... also in this pic you can see the removed rear fender bumper
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods040a.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods041a.jpg

Now onto some comfort/function features...

Put on a set of side bags. An easy grab bottle and some on the road access bags. May see if I can get cd's into the one larger bag... you would be surprised how quickly I get bored of one cd.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods043.jpg

Let me know how you like the SE pipes. I thought about putting them on mine as well. Not interested in switching fuel maps and all the jazz with other pipes. Besides I don't like the crazy loud noise out of some pipes, just looking for something with a little menace in it's voice.

Will do. I will say this... the volume increase is not as much as it was on the nightster pipe change. They are the same line of pipes but where the nightster had little noise, the bagger had some decent HD sound on the stockers.

I decided that a busy guy keeps said guy's mind sharp... aka... I just wanted to keep my mind on other things that bring me joy.

So I had a few mins and tore into the front fairing to add in the electical for the light bar.

That was a CVO version probably with the SE 110 CI motor in it. That is the only version that is more than mine in the HD line. Biggest problem there is that they have been having oil problems and therefor over heating probelms with the 110.

Time to bore you with some BS Harley junk...

Well I been working on the bikes little by little throughout the week with all this family stuff going on.

I had the Nightster on the lift already to start to bolt up the parts from her 883.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods005.jpg

The chrome don't match but got it installed anyway.. a temp gauge
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods013.jpg

Put on the engine bar and highway pegs
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods014.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods010.jpg

Got the tach put on... it was a 2 trip event because the damn 1200 speedo bucket is part of the riser clamps vs the 883s are seperate pieces. So I just ordered a new riser top clamp to finish the job
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods012.jpg

The windshield really kills the looks but its function over form
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods017.jpg

Got the cruiser-mate installed
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods006.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods008.jpg

Pulled the front fork reflectors

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods023.jpg

Smoked out the front blinkers... looks great with the black pods
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Nightster/Mods026.jpg

Then I ordered some 1157 red bulbs on ebay cause I wanted to smoke out the rears... but HD don't sell red 1157's. Also pulled the reflector off the rear fender.

Then I finished up some stuff on the "Street Classic".

During my few trips to the dealer I decided I wanted to pick up a few things to dress it up.

I picked up the Willie G skull pieces for the gas cap, timing cover, and derby cover

Then worked on the final pieces... I tell ya while HD directions are far superior to many others... this particular mod was complete choas in the directions. I ended up just looking at the parts and pictures and did it on my own.

Pulled the map pocket, liner, tourpack, saddlebags, and seat all out/off.

What was left....
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Mods071.jpg

Then I installed the 2 new fender strut covers, and the quick disconnect adapters. Also the new lisence plate mount

*The windshield and hiway bars on the Sporty look terrible.
*The Willy G stuff looks awesome
*The UC looks incredible with the trunk off.

Nice job.

I agree with everyone else, the UC does look better with the trunk off. As for the sport, the only reason the highway pegs stand out is because the bike is all black. The windshield does take away a little, but it isn't anything huge. Over time it'll start to look funny without it.

As far as the electronic upgrades go, I'd like to look into a tach and temp gauge as well as a few other things after I get a new job. Small upgrades, but nice to have.

You did good, Gas. I actually feel motivated to learn more about this stuff. Now if I can only fight the laziness telling me to do it later..

I think it must be legal for the most part. Otherwise it wouldn't be on there... its stock HD.

As far as the highway pegs on the nite... they are a must for me with mid controls.

The chrome on it... well there is only a few parts of chrome... the highway pegs, engine bar, and pipes. We may change that next winter... but not now.

honestly it shud be more like 8xxx miles cause i rode it twice for months without a working speedo. its on its third speedo.

got over 600 on the new ride already

it's funny how the miles rack up on a new bike... I wasn't really try'n and had 1100 in 7 days  (I was off work all 7 days) the bike has probably racked up another 100 since :panic: just needed my truck to move stuff after work and shit.

when I get home the truck's gonna be parked for a while... with a for sale sign. so should milage should pick up again :D

If this flood and F'd up hours/weather ever quit, I should start getting miles on mine again too.

I'm guessing that the april 30 TD is out of the question now though... :(

Well for those of you that may give 2 shits... I'll lay out the most recent updates.

I did a set of new speakers
http://www.twowheelfix.com/showthread.php?t=7455

Then I ordered a few other things within 2 orders.

the new air wing luggauge rack for the tourpack.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/263883408645_0_0a.jpg

Then decided that the optional brake light might look good under there...

So I ordered that in the smoked lens.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Comfort002.jpg

I originally was setup to run as a running light but I wanted it to be just a brake light for more attention.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Comfort004.jpg

Also, picked up a lid organizer to help maximize space usage for upcoming travels.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Comfort001.jpg

Then for the long hauls I ordered a fully adustable backrest.

Started the install by mounting the mechanism
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Comfort005.jpg

Run the cable and mount the lever
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Comfort007.jpg

The seat goes back on and you don't even know the difference
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Comfort008.jpg

grab the backrest itself
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Comfort009.jpg

Instant, fully adjustable comfort
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Comfort011.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/Comfort012.jpg

Put in for a new amp for my b-day, so we'll see if I get that this weekend. :D

Beyond that I think I'm done. Just got the bike back today from its 1k service (I always take every bike in for its first service). So I just want to put on some miles... can't wait to ride to work tomry.

Nice mods, brother. My days of riding to work are over. I haven't started my bike in 2 weeks.

Can you leave that backrest on with Uma on back Gas??

Why's that? New gig make it difficult, or the weather been too bad?

Yeah the backrest can stay with passenger. Plus with a click of a lever in the seat hole it comes right out/off.

Mainly b/c I won't park it in a garage all day. Im just paranoid someone will steal it or fuck with it. And I have to wear a shirt and tie most days.

I did get a ride in today. First time in two weeks. Now, more rain.

A couple days later after I found this... they finally got a tag on it. $24,495...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/BDM/img1238962655870.jpg

Dealership says they have tons of guys wanting to buy it, but HD finance is giving them crap for any non-hd, and the credit unions won't finance anything over blue book $19k. So the buyer would need everything over $19k plus the tax, title, plates. Further supposetly if its still there at the end of the month some guy is coming in with cash. The other people also come in and want the bike bad... tell the finance guy "sure I haven't paid my mortgage in 6 months but I want this bike!".

But the bigger kick... look at the price drop! Nearly $4k off sticker

You aren't kidding...

Right now HD dealers aren't marking down MSRP prices. But when I worked the deal, i got 19 on the trade and 1k off each bike. That's why I said $21k is what I had on the trade. So now they are loosing money...

all means... ME HAPPY
