Pledge

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was wondering if any of you guys use lemon pledge? Someone told me to google, lemon pledge motorcycle a while back. Well I did, and I tried it and have been using it ever since on both my BD and HD. I was reluctant at first but have been using it ever since. It works great on everything. Paint, chrome, leather, windshields and just about everything.

I have been using it on my cars also, its great on the interior. Dash, leather seats, even the plastic in front of the speedometer which is usually difficult to clean. Its way cheaper than armor all, lasts longer, doesn't attract dust. The plastic headlight covers that yellow...........put pledge on them after you wash the vehicle it prevents the yellowing. I turned one of my friends onto it (he is obnoxiously anal about his truck) and now he won't use anything else!

I always travel with a can now and had a can in Daytona Beach when one of my friends unloaded his filthy bike from the trailer. I told him that I didn't want to offend him but his bike was filthy. Sprayed the entire (black) bike with lemon pledge and wiped it down. It looked beautiful and he couldn't believe it!

I read that the only draw back is that it attracts bee's in the summer. Haven't seen that personally. Seriously, give it a try!

safe on chrome and paint, lol! The first time I used it on the paint I was worried that I would have it looking like it was stripped for a paint job! The way it was explained to me was this: what do you use pledge on...good furniture, wood that is lacquered. Well our bikes aren't wood but they are lacquered! Works great dude, promise!!

I think I'm going to try it.

I have a detailer that said it wont work... its an old school bullshit tail. it does work but offers no paint protection and can actually cause long term damage to things like vynal and leather... so who knows...

Though, the way I look at it - I would rather use Honda Polish or No-Wet than this. But, if you're going for a pledge product, the multi-surface kicks ass and doesn't smell like lemons.

For what it's worth I used Pledge for years before Honda Polish or Protect All came out. I used it for "touch ups and NOT as a "total bike" cleaner. It works great,in fact when Protect All first came out,it was accused of being re-labeled Pledge. I actually called the OWNER of the company (it was tiny, tiny then) and he admitted that it was based on Pledge's formula but with some additives including carnuba wax. Apparently, the oils/waxes that are in the original Pledge don't adhere to plastic/paint. Also,Pledge washes off with water and doesn't offer ANY paint protection what-so-ever. Remember,I'm old and Pledge was originally designed for stained wood furniture. The "lacquered thing" didn't start until later... Also,if you are going to use Pledge, you should probably get the original formula or you may as well use 409 or Fantastic on your bike, which is what the "Multi-surface" Pledge basically is.

Oh and Protect-All FTW! http://www.protectall.com/index.htm

Leather is porous and as such would benefit from the oils in Pledge.

Pledge makes it slicker than hell when you wipe it down, also helps make the bug guts not stick as much. I used it on my bike when I lived in FL. lots of love bugs most of the time down there.

don't know what kind of protection you are talking about.

UV,paint, leather, etc.Pledge is designed for wood and doesn't contain anything for paint like carnuba wax, etc.

oh, to me it's a bike. it's going to get scratched and faded just like anything else that gets used outside.

Pledge works. I use it on the CF pipe on the SV. Never used it as a total bike cleaner though...

Makes sense to use it on Harley's since many of them are better suited for furniture than motorcycles. :lmao:

j/k - We have a Harley. Still thought it was funny!!! :lmao:

Protect All smells just like Pledge. Like I said there was a "huge" controversy back in the 90s when it came out and everyone was accusing it of being "re-badged" Pledge.

Nope,it's your stuff, you can piss on it to clean it for all I care. I was just trying to impart some experience and advice. I don't have any vested interest in what you use to clean your ride....

Interesting. But I'll probly just stick to Honda Polish and Protect All.

Me too.

The old "performance bike" videos "how to wheelie and infulce people" showed them using pledge before a photo shoot and I have used it ever since I got the idea from them it works great and the bugs don't sick nearly as bad.

A friend of mine used to use a no-name version of pledge to clean his sled. He was at his grandfathers place one day and wanted to clean up his sled for him. All he had there was actual pledge. He used it and it made a huge mess. He had to go home and get the no-name stuff to clean it up...

Besides that though I have heard of Pledge working fine.

Wouldn't there be a residue left? A good quick detailer will do the trick. And finish with Plexus polisher for a sick shine.

I have done furniture repair professionally for almost 30 years (it's what I do when I'm not teaching). I spend a lot of that time repairing the damage that Pledge and other spray cleaners do. The carriers that they use to make them come out of the can are solvents (because they have a higfh evap rate). I wouldn't put Pledge on my furniture; certainly won't use it on my bikes.

Nah...pretty mundane stuff. My wife and I have a furniture store; about 10-15% of it gets nicks and scratches during shipping. When we first started out, we used to pay a guy to come in every couple of weeks and take care of all the little stuff...then he retired and I learned how to do it myself (I use Guardsman commercial repair stuff and took a course in furniture making and refinishing). I started doing small repairs in customers' homes, and then started doing commercial work for other furniture stores and a lot of work for moving and insurance companies, as it's kind of a dying art.

I do everything from french polishing of small scratches to whole top restorations, to repair of antique veneers, to fixing or replacing broken table legs, wiggly chairs, ect. I don't do stripping and whole piece refinishing....just repairs.

I use traditional laquer, nitro-cellulose, acrylic, two-stage catalyzed, clear or color finishes. I do old-style french polishing or up-to-the minute sprayed on water based finishes. I repair painted faux finishes, or score and paint grain into polyurathane repairs. It is an art unto itself, and the mark of someone really good is that you can't distinguish the repair from the original. I'm OK at it, but an aquaintance of mine is the guy they call when the Smithsonian needs something touched up.....that guy is an ARTIST.

That is interesting... Got any good pics of some before and afters though. I love wood working even though I rarely ever get to do it. Right now my bro and me are working on a big cabinet for his house. All oak. 4 drawers, 2 doors, and a large hinged top. Built a home made router table the other night in abt 30 mins... some plexi from lowes, scrap mdf and 2x4's... bam.
