So some states have been charging minors with sexual abuse and/or pr0n distribution, for sending each other nude cellphone pics. Even if it is between consenting minors who already knew each other or were dating.

Keep in mind that when kids this age are caught stealing/shoplifting, they often get off without a record.......But in this case, they can get put on the sex offender list and stay there for years. Ridiculous, IMO. What is with this country's addiction with labeling people sex offenders?

Nope, I remember one story about a girl who got charged with child porn because she took a pic of herself and sent it out, WTF?!?

I don't agree with it, but it doesn't surprise me.
There was a story on MSN the other day about a teenage girl who committed suicide because a nude pic of her got circulated amongst her school friends.

In Georgia I could have unprotected sex with a 16year old girl and not be charged with anything. But if I was to have one picture of her with a nipple showing I'd go to jail.

The sex offender list is a bad idea to begin with. You're punishing somebody repeatedly for the same crime. It's actually illegal in the eyes of the law. But, sex offenders are demonized (even if it is a young person sending racy pics) and shunned. They're continually tormented which leads to a high level of "relapse".

If they're so horrible that the public needs to be warned about them, they should not be among the general public. If they're "rehabed" after their time in corrections, they should be left alone.

Yeah well there's a bunch of fuck ups out there who re-offend (Class 3's). Kinda like these fuckers who get outta jail for robbin' or murderin' or rapin' then go back and do it again. I say if they didn't learn once, they're not gonna learn again either, so what is your solution there?

Yeah. The child porn charge though... ehhh. They're teens, but there's not a law right now that would work right for them. The issue needs to be dealt with and a new law needs to develop that's in line with technology (which is ever-changing). The kids don't need to be doing this in the first place......

I think a good asswhupin' and a groundin' is in order. Take away their phone, tv, interwebz, etc.etc..... But that would mean the parents would have to act like parents. Can't have that happening now, can we?

happened here recently, girl sends boy a photo. all happy. they break up then boy sends photo to everyone. boy is getting charged. I'm kind of 50 50 on it. I don't think they should be charged for the intial photo but when he sends it out to everyone he knows he is distributing child porn without her consent.

So then why isn't there a "list" for murderers or thieves, preventing them from living in certain places, etc etc?

The problem is the number of things that can be called "sex offenses" depending on the state and the judge's discretion.

Thats kind of my take on it, part of it is kids being kids and exploring their sexuality, just htye have newer technology at their disposal. But if the recipient then sends it out there should be some repurcussions.

i dont think they should be labeled as an offender, its not like an older guy with a HD full of kiddie porn. And something like this can realy mess with them for the rest of their lives being labled as a sex offender.
