Brought it home at like 2am and spent the day getting insurance, a tag, and starting to clean it up. Pics tomorrow. This is now what I will take to Alaska and live out of for most of my 6 week trip.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=259280778&dealer_id=63868395&model=F250&only_photo=1&style_flag=1&start_year=1999&search_type=both&distance=500&drive=4+wheel+drive&advanced=y&fuel=Diesel&end_year=2002&make2=FORD&default_sort=priceASC&address=30274&model2=F350&sort_type=distance&max_price=9000&seller_type=b&make=FORD

Actually has 260k on the clock but the transmission was replaced by a Ford dealership at 230K miles about 3 years ago. Also had new alternator, water pump and front brakes installed right before he put it up for sale.

http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/PricingReport.aspx?WebCategoryId=44&YearId=2001&Mileage=260000&VehicleClass=UsedCar&ManufacturerId=15&ModelId=102&PriceType=Private+Party&VehicleId=4210&SelectionHistory=4210%7c30274%7c30274%7c0%7c0%7c16 3321%7ctrue%7c163363%7ctrue%7c163382%7cfalse%7c163 405%7ctrue%7c163432%7ctrue%7c163437%7ctrue%7c16344 9%7ctrue%7c163457%7ctrue%7c163483%7ctrue%7c163538% 7ctrue%7c163590%7ctrue%7c163602%7ctrue%7c163627%7c true%7c163674%7ctrue&Condition=Good&QuizConditions=

The best part: is that it is valued at just over 14K on KBB and trust me when I say it isn't quite the buyers market for these trucks. People still want them and people will die before letting go of them. I can't count the number of times I found one I liked and it was gone the next day, or I called the same day of a new listing and it had a deposit on it. Not to mention anything at this price was always a piece of crap.

I had given up on wanting the crew cab, the leather, and the long bed since my pickyness was killing my options and I was trying to bring my budget down. By some stroke of luck I found this one within 60 miles of me and within hours I was at the owners house driving it. Despite its mileage, it is light years ahead of most of the 140-180k trucks I drove. Everything is functional and the leather is mint except for the common wear on the edge of the driver's seat but the owner's wife sewed it up so I don't mind.

Sorry for lack of better pics, I just had to share this with someone.

7.3L diesel... he's got at least another 100K on it, as long as it was maintained proper. will probalby have to change injectors and glow plugs, but no biggy there.
At least the tranny is somewhat new. that was the weakest link in that pickup!

Nice truck.

3/4 ton diesels are going dirt cheap leftover here. Brand new 07's, 32k, CDN. Which is what you would have paid for one with 200k miles 2 years ago.

I totally agree on the engine being good for another 100k,make sure you change the fluid in the trans-axle and the differentials and have them inspected. Of course along with wheel bearings,U-joints,fuel filter, etc. before you take it too far! Just because an old couple owned it doesn't mean it was never abused/neglected. With that kind of mileage,I'd change the coolant and transmission fluid too. Oh and HERE'S a good time to use that Shell Rotella synthetic oil...

Hey,you're working in a restaurant right? Get yourself a bio-diesel kit,get the old grease from work and make your own fuel! My ex's dad has made his own for years,he even heats his house with it. Good luck with the truck!

There were many of these trucks for sale with 350K+ mileage and sadly people were asking over 10g for them and that was private. The trucks can get well over 300K on the engine but most of that will rely on my intended uses and how it was treated for the past 260k. The guy that has owned it for the last couple years took great care of it and it sounds like the guy before did the same thing.

It has been on construction sites for most of its life so the paint could use a wax job and it does have a couple dings but I have seen much worse cars with this kind of mileage.

Thats what made me careless about the high mileage. I really wanted a 100-150k truck but this was too good to pass up.

You asshat! I just got home from taking my mom out to breakfast in it before she was off to work. We tested out the drive through and while I aced the driving test, I can't hear a fucking thing anyone is saying to me.

That should get a ton worse with intake and exhaust. :rockwoot:

Waiting for it to warm up a bit and then I am going to finish cleaning it and take millions of pics.

Good find....Don't let the mileage scare you...now it will be contest to see how high you can get it!!

I bought a work truck like that a few years back for very little money, 1992 Chevy Silverado, 290K on the clock. Ran great. I did some small work on it and flipped it to a new owner and made $2500 in the process.

I was shocked at the mileage at first, but if it'll last you that long yet then I'm happy for you.

Ok, I has t3h pix now.

The night I picked it up. Friend dropped me off and I drove about 2 miles away before pulling into a well lit parking lot and doing the OMFG dance!

The pain is worn and would love a wax job but overall the body is very straight.

This is the infamous tear in the drivers seat. Owner sewed it back up and it should last me along time. I don't know why more people don't think of this. SO MANY of the trucks I looked at had seats that were just annihilated.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/pootiestang/Truck/MUG059.jpg

Space for 3 in the back, with cup holders! Should be noted that I may spend a lot of time sleeping back here on my drive up!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/pootiestang/Truck/MUG060.jpg

Space for 3 up front as well. 4 cup holders in the front with the 2 in the back being reachable from the front. I can go a long ways on the highway with this thing!

Hidden space for manly stuff that I don't own yet.

Rhino wanna be stuff in the back and a rubber mat bolted down.

Stereo system isn't all that wonderful but the 6 cd in dash is nice.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/pootiestang/Truck/MUG067.jpg

Put 100 miles on it today. :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/pootiestang/Truck/MUG069.jpg

And the business end of things. The turbo makes driving unbelievably fun. Once the exhaust and intake arrive I am sure my MPG will drop way down.

Nice... yeah you'll have fun driving up... it'll be cake in that thing...

what's your range? as far as fuel I mean

I'd suggest getting some new tires if yours aren't on the better side of 70%... there are places in the road will kill your tires... especially in the summer...

Thanks. I am on my first tank right now so I won't really know but being stock and with some conservative driving I should be able to get between 16-20ish. I probably wont get that since I have been spooling up the turbo for my friends.

I can expect the mpg in the 15-16 range but it will be a constant battle. With engine mods, tuning and some fuel additives I can really get that bumped up however with those mods comes the tendency to drive faster which then kills that mpg. Stuff like bigger tires and wheels will do nothing more then murder it.

I have a 29 gal tank but I can do a easy mod which allows me to fill it up to 35 gal. I may ride the tires out to AZ/CA/OR and then put some new ones on right before the Alcan highway. I have a little bit of steering wander and I sort of want to fix it before I leave but it isn't bad enough that it needs to be fixed. I just don't want to take things apart and get myself into a expensive situation with a big trip ahead of me.

Suggestion... I have this exact amp btw in my car.

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=17701

AND

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18324

The amp has "high power" inputs and it should work okay with the stock speakers until you can upgrade them.

My parents have a similar rig with the 36 gal tank. They go an easy 500 miles per fill up, usually closer to 600.

Congrats...I had the 89 F250 7.3L 4x4, gave it to my dad to use around the farm last year with 318K on it...tranny was replaced twice(1st year of the E4OD). Replaced the injectors once...glow plugs many times, starter and batteries many times also. The truck is still running great...

Well dang Alex.... NICE truck you got! Sprung for the Lariat and everything... a big pimp you are! :rockout: Congrats.... I don't care what anybody says about Fords, Super Duty's are rock solid trucks! That's what I would buy if I was buying a truck. Good luck with it... I'm sure it'll last you a long long long time! If you do run into any problems with it feel free to ask me

We'll definitely have to get together again here soon before you leave. Maybe next weekend??

Thanks dude. I need to get ya back on a lunch or dinner. I should still be in town next weekend so lets plan on something.

As for going with the crew cab and 4 doors, I sorta became convinced I should stick to a smaller truck but even my sisters told me to get something that a wife could never look at me and say "Get rid of it, we need more space". If my future wife ever needs more space, she can get an Excursion. :D

Thanks for the hint Rae, it seems simple enough but I didn't think of it. A tuner I am looking at actually has a "drive-through" mode which helps quiet it down some. :D
