Thought I would take a chance to cruise around town with my friend before leaving for Alaska. We had a wonderful dinner and then were just going to cruise downtown and then split off.

Guy in front of us stopped quickly and I stopped fast enough I felt the rear lighten up quite a bit. Check behind me and the person behind me stopped. Someone 2 cars back in a fancy little bimmer on her god damn motherfucking cell phone wasn't paying attention and caused this mess. Her airbags went off, the ranger she hit had airbags deployed, and the blazer behind me did all he could to stop and couldn't. Person in the blazer went to the hospital, and the people in ranger were banged up but given the clear to the EMS people.

When I checked on the lady if she was ok, she had no idea what had happened. She was dazed and sober but she fortunately has insurance.

Props to Atlanta area EMS/Fire/Police. I don't know if it was because they heard a motorcycle was involved, but they had 3 cops, 2 ambulances, 1 fire truck and a fire chief on site before I could even understand what happened.

I am fine and I even managed to stay on the fucker for the ride. I don't even know how to feel right now. If the lady in the bimmer had been behind us, I wouldn't be here typing and my friend probably wouldn't either.

Damn damn damn dude you gots lucky, real lucky.

How bad is the bike it really doesn't look too bad except for the sub frame, the pictures aren't exactly clear, but it looks like bodywork, lights amd possibly subframe damage.

Thanks everyone.

The bike seemed ok but I am really not sure. I was about 40 miles from home so i didn't want to take a chance on the highway in case the bike wasn't up to snuff.

The tire had a bad gash in it, the tail piece was busted out, the bike may have been in gear when I got hit so I don't know if the tranny took a beating, but the bike was making a new noise when I was backing it up to help the guy put in on the trailer. I don't think it will be that bad but who knows.

The lady in the bimmer knows people obviously since a personal non-uniform detective or so shit showed up in his Mercedes and was at his side the whole time. Obviously a family friend or something.

The lady in the bimmer told me she had no idea how anything had happened. All she remembers was hearing the radio and talking to her roomate. Older lady, sort of cougerish.

No matter how this turns out it will be an experience in seeing how my insurance company handles it and how it all comes out. Even if nothing comes of it, I will keep the bike. It just may not get to come to Alaska with me.

Didn't know how it happend, well thats easy to explain.

what happened in the eyes of cougar lady:
Driving along, talking on cell phone, all of a sudden crash air bag, ow. Oh NO, someone made me smoosh my pretty car!

what happened in the eyes of... well, everyone else.

Driving along, traffic stops somewhat suddenly. Everyone stops leaving as much room as possible cause they are paying attention to what they are doing, (ie DRIVING) then some dumb bitch in a fancy car talking on her cell phone not paying attention rear ends a small pickup. That small pickup gets shoved into a small SUV, which gets pushed into a bike.

But don't worry, it wasn't her fault.

Damn that sucks... I agree... The cellphone thing is stupid... But I'd be lying if I said I've never driven and talked on my cellphone... Glad your ok... Hope everyone else is too... And maybe this will help the "cougar" pay more attention while driving.

WOW, amazing that you are OK - and that you kept it upright!! Good job!

As for the lady, make sure the police report doesn't come out funny because she *knows* people ;)

Talking on your cell phone while driving is now legal here. I wish the police would really crack down on people b/c it's an easy and good way to make money for the city. I am all for people getting tickets b/c your mind it truly distracted while chatting with someone verses listening passively to the radio. Just yesterday a stupid witch came to a screaming halt inches from our bumper b/c she was on her cell phone and reaching for something under the passenger seat. I was in my Civic and not my uber safe Volvo....

Being preggo and going to have a little one to think of really makes a person particular when other's around them are careless.

I dont even like the hands free cell phones - mostly b/c people walk around with their ear pieces on pretending they are too important to miss a phone call.

I've lived for 31 years and survived without talking on my cell while driving, I don't know why it's that hard for a lot of people.

Anyway, glad you are okay as it could have been worse. Shame to have to deal with this before your big trip.

Get your ass to the doctor right now and get checked out before you proclaim yourself "fine" Any kind of jarring accident can show up later and cause you grief. If you don't have it documented you went to a doctor her insurance will use that against you for any future claims.

Well I spent the entire day picking up the report, going over to the towing place to sign release papers for the lady's insurance company and then making what feels like 8 billions phone calls. The bike should get picked up tomorrow and then I should know in a day or two about the condition of things. I asked her about a buy back if it gets totaled and she said no one had ever asked her that questions so she wasn't sure.

I was told to swing by and pick up any belongings I had as well as the license plate if it wasn't too damaged. It doesn't look too bad but it definitely wasn't ridable last night. The gouge in the tire is small but very deep, the axle is out of line, the tail piece may be the only part broken although some of the tabs may have busted on the side pieces. I think the sub frame is ok but I didn't really check it out. No clue as to whether the tranny is fucked or not.

Even though the damage isn't all that bad, it wasn't fun to visit her like this. She wasn't happy about being stuck with damn little scooters, but obviously a big group of scooter people biffed it.

Assuming the adjuster is competent I want to say she will be back in my hands eventually although I really don't know.

That sux, the axle alignment could easily mean a new swing arm if it was twisted or tweaked or if the adjuster bolts were pushed through...

Although the first thing i though when i saw this picture was the words

Gd damnit Quick! I dont know how i missed this!!! Does it feel neverending man? It seems like you just fixed her up not too long ago, and now this happens. :panic: Glad your ok!

Hands-free device FTW. Call your lawyer. That is all.

Just because your hands are free doesnt mean your mind is free. As far as menuverablity, yes.... mentally, no!

I dont even like the hands free cell phones - mostly b/c people walk around with their ear pieces on pretending they are too important to miss a phone call.

I have had a Bluetooth for a year or so now. Not everybody acts high and mighty when they slip them on their ears. It is only on my ear in the car and at work! I bought the thing when I had to travel far between my apartment and parents house and not have to hold my phone to my ear for an hour. But its evolved nicley for work when I have to use both hands for folding.

Well on the bright side I found out that it isn't going to be totaled out for now.

State farm called me and said that they were going to send a specialist out to double check everything but they wouldn't be able to get someone out there until after I wanted to leave for Alaska. So the lady is going to let me take it to Alaska and then I have to send her two repair quotes for comparison and then send me a check.

Picking it up on Monday and heading for Alaska on Tuesday.

Man this has already been such an adventure and I haven't even left yet.
