Well, it's here. Flood time.
As of now, my town has shut off water and pumps are running to try to get the water out of town.
I have over 2' of water in my back yard, and it's still raining. As well there is still a huge snowdrift in my back yard.
Luckily, my house is built up pretty well, so I *hope* it should be ok. But I have a garage in my back yard, and that has a foot of water in it already.
The Red River is expected to crest at 41+ feet... by Friday.
FYI, the "great flood" of '97, claimed to be a "100 year flood", the Red crested at a mere 39.5'.
What the hell! How can we get higher water than the 100 year flood in only 12 years!!!! :panic:
I hope we can save our town... biggest prob is all the culverts are frozen, so to get it to move anywhere, it has to be pumped, and there are only so many pumps.
Wow that sucks. I blame the democrats for this. In fact I blame Gore, he created global warming/climate change.
Good luck

Awesome! I was in Grand Forks for five years, and I cannot get over the stupidity of that town. Lets build up our public works to handle the flood that comes EVERY FUCKING YEAR. Oh wait, lets build the Alerus instead! Morons. I also love how they hate the military and treat us like shit ecxept for flood month when they want us to sandbag. Listen, if you live in a place where it gets down to negative 60, it floods every year, and the mosquitoes can kill a full-grown man, God is telling you to move. I loved how townies made fun of me for living there and being military. Motherfucker, I get paid to live here, you live in this shithole because it's where your parents house is! Sorry if it upsets you when I bash on your home, but I hate that fucking place and I'm not too fond of the people that live there. I don't know if you're a local or military, but if you live there voluntarily then alls I can say is you asked for it.

My dad's shed is flooded... the culvert that drains the entire neighborhood is in his nextdoor neighbors front yard... and it's blocked by a huge chunck of ice in two different places...

...Ahhh, yes, the beautiful Red River Valley.....home of corn, asperagus and sugar beets....:rockout:
Miss it like dental work....
although if it weren't for the yearly floods, it wouldn't be some of the richest farmland on Earth..........

I wonder if there's a way to melt the ice enough to let that drain...?

BECAUSE of the floods, it is the richest farmland on earth.
Been busy hauling sandbags. Running a PLS truck with police escort to and from sandbag station to where they are needed.
At home, we are building a dike to handle overland flooding. That is our only worry as of now, as generally where I live doesn't have to worry about it. No problems in the "great flood" of 97.
Here's hoping!
when i first saw this thread i of course thought:

my dad's place is better now... they got the culverts cleaned out... water dropped 14" overnight with just the draining... enough to pull the water back 30' from where it once was...
how's your place look'n Cutty?

My house and town are ok... for now at least. The closest water is down a little bit today. It was over the highway into town in the AM, and now is back off of it, so I guess that's a good sign for me.
Now I'm in Fargo fighting the flood with the Guard. They just upped the forcasted crest to 43', and are saying it could hold that level for up to 7 days!! :panic:
A few areas are being evac'd... guess we just have to wait and see what happens. We've hauled over 3 million sandbags already, and are still going.
12 hour shifts now, so i need to get to bed here soon, as the 12 hours always seem to streach out to 14+
I have some pics on my phone, when I get more time I'll try to post 'em up.

Well, water is going down around here still, which is good for me.
The Red is supposed to crest in Fargo tomorrow at 42ish feet, and hold that for as long as a week! :panic: Lets hope the dikes hold

 that's cause it is! That's why we have the probs we do with overland flooding, once a river breaks it's banks, it just goes and goes. Only thing slowing it down are roads.

Well, they are talking about pulling us all back in on Monday for round 2
Second crest is supposed to hit somewhere between the 16th and 18th.
Guess we'll see what happens.
Hope we at least get Easter in peace.

Sorry you gotta go back in Easter weekend.. hopefully you won't have to stay long. Keeping you in my thoughts man.. :pat:
And on an unrelated note.. I didn't get enough sleep last night, because when I first read the title to this thread (even though I had read it before) for some reason I was thinking it was about Halo. :panic: :screwy:

Talked the big talk, and luckily my full time co-workers like me, so I'm off until Monday! :rockwoot:
My Admin NCO had a trip to Disney planned with her bf, starting monday through next week. She is coming in to help cover for me since she is still going on her trip.
Our whole Battalion is being activated on monday. :panic:
Cutty72
04-17-2009, 11:42 PM
SO currently we have over a dozen units activated state wide.
Current operations are from Canada border down to SD border, and from the MN border west to a little past Minot.
I'm in OPS for the JTF managing every piece of equipment that they are using state wide. Current list is almost 700 pieces!! :panic:
So yeah... it's wet everywhere.
Valley city shut off all water and sewer, as the sewer was starting to back up into people's homes.
Jamestown is worried. The water is very high at the reservoir, threatening to go over the emergency spillway. If that happens there is no controlling the flow of the water, and those downstream are pretty much fucked.
ND has not seen this much water... probalby ever since they have been keeping record.
Bad JuJu... Hope this shit goes away soon!!! These long days are getting old.
