Well, I'm 3/5th's of my way to becoming a crazy cat lady (isn't 5 cats the magic number? )

We weren't planning on getting another cat (a DOG was supposed to be next on the list), but friends of ours needed to find a new home for their orange tabby. Their little boy, despite their best efforts, just wouldn't play nicely, so the poor lil cat was relegated to living on the screend porch, or in the garage... so she came home with us Saturday.

She's the sweetest, loviest cat... and little by little, our cats are adjusting to her. We're keeping her name, Carrot, however she's already got a few nicknames, including Red Headed Step Child, Ginger Kid, and (Chris' favorite) Token (as in, the token orange cat, since the other two are gray).

Sorry for the crappy pic... once she stops hiding in the guest room closet, I'll get better pics of her. :)

:dvrofl: I don't even know where that came from... we got home with her really late Saturday night, and I was punchy, and for some reason I called her Token... and it stuck (like I said, it's Chris' fave name for her.... )

She's not quite 4.

Awwww....thanks for giving her a proper home, Neebs! She's adorable. She will come around. We tried to get our cats to get along by using associations with good things with the other cats. Such as, if they are all together, they get treats.

Naming it is uselss anyway. All they respond to is pssssst or the sound of a can of food being opened.

Dont let nermal or stimpy see this but orange cats are my favorite.

 Thanks everyone... we're still getting through the adjustment period. Tigger and Piglet are slowly developing curiosity about the Token orangie, but there's still a lot of hissing around our house.

Our cats absolutely know their names (and sometimes even respond when called). Hell, Piglet comes running if Chris whistles for her. Carrot doesn't seem to respond to her own name much, but does respond to Token, so sadly, that may end up being her name afterall.

it def takes some time for them to adjust. We kept the calico in th ebasement for a week or 2 and slowly let her interact with the other 2 but only when someone was around. their first interaction was funny, they sniffed each other, nermal hissed at her, she hissed back and nermal was out of there

We brought her in in the carrier, and stuck it in the middle of the living room (but left it closed) so Tig & Pig could sniff her, check it out, etc... then we let her out after half an hour or so. So far, there haven't been any scuffles, just the hissing. She stays (by her own choice) in the 3rd bedroom most of the time, though last night and this morning, she's been venturing out more and more.

What's funny is how lovey and affectionate it's made our OTHER cats. They've always been sweet, but not lap cats by any stretch. Now it's almost like they're staking out their territory, and they're EXTRA super affectionate.

Aww... kitteh! :)
After two years, our oldest cat will still occasionally decide one of the newcomers is a scary intruder and get all hissy. Sounds like you're off to a reasonably good start by cat standards!
