Ok so I'm thinking about buying a full leather suit,I tossed the last one I had- way old! I don't want to spend too much because I'll probably wear 5 times total. So far here's what I have,

A* Octane in white/black for $499

http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/leather_suits_jackets_and_pants/alpinestars/octane_one_piece_motorcycle_race_suit.html

Technic Chicane in black for $299

http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/hot+deals/garage+sale+-+1+of+a+kind/teknic_chicane+1+piece+race+suit+-+size+42,+48+or+50

I'll probably drop the extra $200 on A* but we'll see...what do you all think?

I think that's the suit Trip and Fatburg have... Trip speaks very highly of it.

$200 would buy some extra gas for more riding. :D

I know a few people who've gotten the Chicane and liked it. I've read some good reviews on it, but I haven't read anything as to how it compares to the A*.

Doing a quick search on the A*, it seems to have a little bit better protection than the Teknic. The A* has CE armor and the Teknic has Teknic Armorshield...whatever that is.

True,I'm starting to lean towards the Technic because I'm cheap and doubt I'll wear it much.

I own the chicane suit. I love it. Comfortable, the airflow is is great and I can ride all day wearing it and not feel hot. It held up well through 2 wrecks, one was a slow lowside where I slid on my side and was able to walk out of the slide, and a highside where I slid into a curb and broke a few bones. Not a scratch on me though, and I truly think that the suit saved my ass from spending a few weeks in the hospital. None of the stiching broke.

The one spot that has worn more than expected is the velcro for the knee slider. I might have at one point worn through a slider and been rubbing the velcro against asphault, but all that happened bad was that the velcro got torn up a little. The zippers are all big ass metal zippers, on the front, both sleeves, and both legs.

Overall I highly recomend it. Great price for a very good suit. I'll try to take some pics of the damage areas in a few and post them

Teknic suits actually have a rep for busting seems easily. A lot of track guys had a ton of bad experiences with them. I believe Kyle owns that suit and has used it a few times in testing, I think he may have had a seem bust, but I can't remember for sure.

Thanks,I appreciate the help. For $300 it's har to pass up. besides,if I wear it 10 times,it'll be a miracle. On the other hand if I get a A* I might wear it more because, well I like the looks of it better to be honest. We'll see what happens, thanks again.

Thanks Bro. I really like A* gear and as I've said,I might actually wear that suit. Besides,it'll match my boots. tee hee..

This is the damage to the ass from sliding on it at maybe 30 mph

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/2254/leathers003e.jpg (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=leathers003e.jpg)

Th damage to the knee from thinking I still had some knee puck left

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/6903/leathers6b.jpg (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=leathers6b.jpg)

The knee armour (there is about 1/4" of leather around this thing, plus another 1/4" of padding on the inside

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/4602/leathers009o.jpg (http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=leathers009o.jpg)

The elbow armour, just a 1/2" thick piece of foam, but there is another 1/2" of leather built into the suit. the same type of padding is on the hips and the back. During both my wrecks neither area felt like it was in any pain, even though the highside ended with a rather abrupt ending against the curb stopping me cold breaking some ribs and my collar bone (a driect hit on my upper arm is where i hit).

Amazing, looks too good to be true, yet for some reason i just don't think i can trust them, its just a little too good to be true. Especially teh little not at the bottom of the page that says over seas company. My mind automatically think that this is a website done get a bunch of orders quick then stall as long as possible and keep brining in money then up and dissapear.

But if it's true let me know I might just go ahead and get a new suit myself

This also scares me a little

Also check sportbiketrackgear. They have a few a* suits for 499 and may still do their 15% off on those too, not sure if theyll do it on clearance stuff.

A suit would be nice, but for the weather where I live, I like separate pants and jacket. I have two different pants and four different jackets for just about every 20 degree change in the temperature. Plus, for riding in the mountains the weather can change instantly. It was 70 degrees when I left my house yesterday and I wore long johns under my leathers.

if you would wear the A* more then it's the better buy.

I wear mine any time I go out to play a little harder or trackday or dragstrip. it's not pretty but I can't afford a pretty one and this one does the job it's meant to.

I have the chicane 1 piece. Really comfortable and not hot unless you are just sitting. That A* is dead sexy. Call sportbiketrackgear. If you call or email I'm pretty sure they give you 15% on alpinestars stuff, even on clearance.

Yea I already pm'd Jason at STG. I've also found that A* suit for $485 elsewhere. I'm going to call Jay and see if he can get me a better deal on the octane in white/black and I'll go with it. If not I may have to give that custom $350 suit a try... It sounds incredible BUT most of these suits are already made in China by outsourced factories, so it's quite possible that they could sell and ship a leather suit for that price. I don't know if you looked at their site but they have you do tons of measurements and let you pick your own colors. They offered to make me pants to match my Icon jacket for $160. Perforated with boot cut cuffs and knee sliders I might add.
