So, my biggest hurdle with the broken left leg has been that I cannot drive my car since it's a standard and I couldn't operate the clutch.

Well, this morning I thought I should go down and practice the motion of operating the clutch to get my leg used to it again. I go down there, get in the car without a hiccup. I start to push in the clutch and it's uncomfortable. Then I realized that my dad drove my car last, so the seat it further back. I scooted it up and Voila! Clutch engaged! After a few pumps I decide that I am going to drive to the mail boxes and back. I kick ass!

The hardest part of all of it was getting my crutch in and out of the car.

I am about to drive up to Walgreens(it's less than a mile away on all back roads) and pick up a few things(like paper towels )

I am so happy I could cry.

OH, and yesterday I decided that two crutches wasn't necessary anymore, and I went downtown with one crutch. It takes me a while to walk, but by golly! I am that much closer to being normal again! I love being young and healthy!!! :nana2:

Get on with your bad self, then!! That completely kicks ass....some people sit around and mope when they take a hard knock...make it their own little cross to bear...it's refreshing to see someone like you get up, shrug it off...and GET ON WITH IT!! :rockwoot:

Now....um...it's not too late to reconsider this entire paper towel thing, eh? :P

Yay. I hate trying to fumble in and out of a car with crutches. Try it with a wheelchair, its fucking impossible. You end up on the ground deliberately.

Just got back from Walgreens :D

I bought some paper towels and some advil. I took two advil as soon as I got home because with the three flights of stairs to the apartment and the one whole mile round trip to the store, my leg is starting to feel a little worn out. I think it's worked hard enough today, so I am going to try and chill for the rest of the evening and practice again tomorrow.

I was starting to get grouchy and stir crazy this morning, so I needed this! I feel so independent!

Oh how I hate crutches... Glad you can drive. It's much easier with an automatic  I drove for 8 weeks with a cast on my left leg. Carrying groceries is a bitc when your hobbling on crutches. And I'm too damn stubborn to let anyone help :sm: (because I've never seen this smiley used)

WooT! :rockwoot: It's the simplest things we take for granted and don't truly appreciate until we've been impaired enough to wish for them. :)

Don't overdue it!

Thanks everyone. I have been taking it easy all evening. The most strenuous thing I've done is cook dinner, and that was just a bunch of standing.

TV watching and book reading for the rest of the night for me :)

that's awesome girl! I know being on crutches is no fun, so every little step towards 'normalcy' is a lil victory. Now go rest! :)

Good for you !! When I broke my left femur I owned a 95 Vette with an automatic transmission so that helped when I first tried to drive. The hardest part was trying to put crutches in the back of the car.

Since my bike was gone I took that Vette and traded it for an 02 Z06... 6 speed. People laughed and shook their head when I bought that car while still on crutches but I looked at it as "forced physical therapy" !! :idk:

I had to have a few surgeries due to my foot and ankle so I was on freakin' crutches for 9 months !! :panic:

Hang in there. :rockout:
