carrier = verizon.

i am thinking the blackberry is pretty nice. most people like them who have them, as opposed to the iphone.

now i am not talking about the touchscreen storm, but the tried and true BB Curve.
http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/rim-blackberry-curve-8330/4505-6452_7-32925233.html?tag=mncol;lst

but there is also the LG versa
http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/lg-versa-verizon-wireless/4505-6454_7-33530742.html?tag=mncol;lst

and then there is the HTC touch Pro
http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/htc-touch-pro-verizon/4505-6452_7-33408745.html?tag=mncol;lst

any other suggestions? comments ?

I've had a curve for maybe 6-8 months, and I like it.

The only complaints is that it's not very good at playing video and the browser is funky on somethings. A windows device might be the cure, or it could be just as funky at other things.

Windows mobile "seems" better than Blackberry or Apple for most applications and the shear volume of applications is staggering! Plus it is nice for using it with your computer,ASSuming you have a PC.

I have the storm, it's nice.

However, I would wait for the 9630 Niagara. Blackberry is about to release another phone for Verizon, it's going to be the storm and bold in one. Should be a slick phone. It's got a full qwerty keyboard too.

We have one as a work phone in my office. The touch screen sucks, it isnt nearly as accurate as many others on the market. If you dont have it locked, you can inadvertently push the side or screen buttons, making calls or just setting off different features, etc. I by far prefer my old crappy razor to the Dare. Course this is only my take on it, and I am spoiled by my iphone. The touch screens probably get easier to use with practice on it tho. :idk:

curves have memory issues, all of them. if you get one be prepared to lose texts, numbers and a number of other things unless you are extra vigilant about pulling the battery once a month.

and the omnia is sweet, one of te very few phones vzw sells with uncrippled wifi and runs windows

Honestly, I would hold off as long as you can. Wait til next year if you can when the apple/AT&T contract runs out and you may see a verizon iphone. Let the 9630 come out and see if it is any good. If you spend most of your time in the city though, AT&T is not a bad choice. They suck when you live and work out in the boonies like me. I get 3G almost everywhere I go with verizon.

theres another android device from Australia available soon if not now... made by Kogan. I'm honestly too lazy to look it all up to get release dates right now...

And supposedly Sony is planning to have an android phone as well. I personally wasn't impressed with the G1 at all.. the device itself , made by HTC, wasn't that nice. it was designed and made a couple years ago and I think the device itself reflects that.

I personally have a Nokia E71 and I LOVE it... but that doesnt help those with VZW

03-26-2009, 03:15 PM

Yeah, I thought it would be nice to get an iphone, but now I don't really care because I got everything I needed with the Storm and got to stay on the verizon network. I don't have to worry about cost like most people because I get a company/government discount. I will do a pros and cons from what I have observed from my buddies iphone.

Upgradable memory - Storm wins, mini SD card FTMFW

Copy and paste - Storm already has it

Push gmail - Storm wins again

Apps - iphone wins, but I have discovered I don't give a damn about these and don't even buy the iphone replica apps for the storm. Slacker/garmin/weatherbug is about all I use on a regular basis. Sorry I don't break out my storm when I want to level a picture or need urbanspoon to tell me where to eat or lose my car or need snow conditions or any of those other lame ass apps they advertise that don't actually even work where I live because I don't live in a big city.

music - they both play music, that's about all I care about in the functionality of this market...

removable battery - storm....apple and their retarded ways

computer/charging connector - storm, it has the now universally adopted micro usb

speed - iphone, storm rushed a OS built for another phone and has yet to release the first truly storm built OS

OS - iphone, same reason as above

screen - this is opinion, but I love the surepress, so I give it to Storm

business use - Storm, it's a fucking blackberry, iphone is a gadget toy

GPS use - Storm, garmin app is nice, has telenav even released theirs for iphone yet?

internet - they are all about the same to me, as long as I can pull up websites I'm good.

Fuck Verizon, I had bad dealings with them and will be pissed if I ever have to go back. I'm curious to see how a company famous for crippling their phones can sell a smartphone without ripping me off every chance they get, remember, these are the people who tried to make you pay three times for ringtones.

Sounds like his experience with Sprint is similar to mine. The area around 3 of my shops I would have to use my personal phone, since the work one had poor signal.

It's not only that. The Verizons version has less memory, less ram, etc. When I first boot it up, its already at 60% ram usage. My Alltel one is at 34%. Didnt take long to lug down the verizon one. Plus, I like the Alltel's style better.
