This is a project I picked up last May. It was the first bike I ever legally rode on the street at 15 1/2 yr. old. It sure seemed bigger and faster back in '71. This bike is a 1968 Honda CL350K0. I even did a lot of lane splitting riding it to Zuma and Malibu Beach. :)

There are still a couple of things left to do but basically, here is the completed bike. I know I'm missing a screw on the heat shield and the turn signal needs to be adjusted. The front brakes are still not very good and I need new spokes and the hubs restored. I'm also still looking for the left side HONDA badge if you know where I can find a nice one.

The tank was ruined during transport when the T-6 aircraft frame I was hauling shifted. The new tank, headlight shell and headlight ears were done with Duplicolor rattle can in my driveway.

Remember, the engine was never removed so the cases and frame need some attention as well. Maybe next winter....

How did you restore the shiney bits (fenders, heatshield, rear shocks, etc..)? Were you able to polish them back to life or did you replace them?

Great looking bike! :rockwoot:

These are my all time favorite kinds of bikes, vintage Hondas. You've done a right fine job restoring that one to pretty close to showroom condition. well done.

I miss my CB550K now. that bike was a freakin go forever and do anything machine.

That's a fine little leg-burner you have there, Mike.

You know, it's funny... the hue the light lends to the pictures makes it look like the old motorcycle ads in magazines. ca. 1970's.

Thanks everyone.

It was a tremendous amount of polishing to get the pipes to shine and I, uh, er, we worked hard on it. There was lots of rust and road grime but it hadn't pitted. The heat shield had been damaged in the fall but I was able to take a hammer and sand bag and pound it out. The shocks were a little tougher but the shield and springs came off so I could get the 0000 steel wool in there.

Here is a picture of the exhaust pipe cleaning process.

Yep, that was sure a long day. :)

Awesome job Mike! The time you spent on it paid off. Great looking bike. I can't wait to see the next project.

Oh you can bet it will be Brian. It was pretty much a rusted piece of dog poo when I got it but with some loving care, it will rise once again to be a dominant motorcycle. :zowned:

I took the head and valves over to a guy in Cedar Park tonight for the valve work. He's going to blast the head as well to clean it up. I should get the frame parts back from the powder coater this week then I'll have the cylinders honed and start putting the frame back together. I've also got to start tearing into the bottom end of the 450 this week too.
