I really don't understand how this happened. Today I was riding (finally) some nice twisties... was feeling pretty good, getting some decent lean. Had already scoped out the run for debris... I came up to a sharp left-hander... shifted my ass over, got hard on the front brake and pushed against the tank, weighted my footpegs and dropped my head/shoulder as I made my countersteering input. Got to the correct lean angle, under modest throttle throughout the turn. Then, I began to decrease lean and get on the gas. I'm in first gear coming out, around 13krpm and I get on the throttle pretty hard.... and then it happened.

I wheelied. :squid: :wtf:

It wasn't high, but it was for a decent length of road... couple hundred feet by my estimate. Got on the gas hard coming out of the turn and she came up a bit and just stayed there all the way to redline. I feel so ashamed.

I fuckn' mashed mine hard just before I left for the desert last year... I was crossing a really busy street in Anchorage, the street has some nasty ruts from everyone driving in the same line during the winter with studs, and I got on it a bit harder than I meant to, the wheel came up... I panicked and shut the throttle... fuck... I thought my brain was gonna explode! good thing I was only 2 blocks from my house... took me like 2 hrs to get that sick feeling out of my stomach.

azoomm

I know Duc's don't have a marked redline on the tach....but do they have a limiter?

:dthumb: Most people get confused as hell when I say that... the earlier ones didn't. Now they have an added limiter, something about the rockers not having springs - doesn't mean you can't grenade the motor, just have to know when to stop/shift. I've never hit mine on either the 748 or 998... so I can't tell you from experience where the bugger is :lmao:

marko138
03-25-2008, 10:11 AM
Well...you really dont need to hit the limiter with all the torque throughout the rev range. Which is probly why they dont have the redline.

dReWpY
03-29-2008, 03:15 PM
they really are a nice bike, and when you keep up on the sparkplugs they dont get that bad gas milage honestly

more power then you could use with a few cheap "free" mods, being able to lift the front tire at 100 is a nice touch too

just im too big a pussy to ride this bike like that

marko138
03-29-2008, 03:17 PM
I wanna see if they'll let me ride it. They are notorious for over pricing their stuff...as most dealers are.

dReWpY
03-29-2008, 03:18 PM
and the suspension is actually pretty damn good and when you adjust it properly it really can shine, the brakes are damn good, the power is everywhere and the reliablility is great, one of the guys ran his rc vs a busa and was off the line faster and only got passed when they hit over 100mph

what price range are you looking at i know of some pigs that are sale on other boards that are going for reasonable price

marko138
03-29-2008, 03:19 PM
Of course the Honda reliability is 2nd to none. And I put new plugs in my Gix once a year as it is. So 2 plugs ain't gonna be shit to me.

dReWpY

marko138

they arent that bad to get at once you learn how to finagle them out the first time

I assume you gotta pull the tank?

dReWpY
03-29-2008, 03:31 PM
kinda, you need to unbolt two bolts and the tank can be pivoted out of the way for the rear and for the front you need to undo two bolts that hold the oil cooler

marko138
03-29-2008, 03:36 PM
How long is the typical change?

dReWpY
03-29-2008, 03:37 PM

marko138
03-29-2008, 03:40 PM
No shit. Takes me atleast 15 to mine now.

dReWpY
03-29-2008, 03:42 PM
once you get the tank up there are around 6 small screws that need to come off the airbox lid to give you more room, might be less if you are named Huang Chang and you have small hands and can get around it :idk: i had it off because i was modding the stock filters so it wasnt an issue

marko138
03-29-2008, 03:45 PM
Does it burn up the plugs quick or what? Mine go bad b/c it's running rich as hell and needs a proper tuning.

dReWpY
03-29-2008, 03:48 PM
The RC51 responds to spark plug changes more so than any other bike I have owned.
We have actually seen 1-2 hp gains from simply installing new plugs at 4000 mile intervals.
& the increased throttle response can be detected even without a dyno.

It is also important to know that you cannot gap the plugs on the RC due to the
high probability of damaging the delicate iridium electrode

marko138
03-29-2008, 03:49 PM
Interesting to note.

If you had to work this way for your whole life, you wouldn't make it. It's not physically possible. You'd be dead by 40. Maybe there are a couple jobs out there like this, but they would need to pay like 20 times as much as my stipend, or no one would do them.

The least I ever work is about 65 hours a week. It's been up near 100 during a couple critical times.
