honestly, i hit up the automated checkouts for pretty much anything, but especially stuff like that. I know that people could care less, but i've got this paranoid feeling... even when just buying toothpaste or soap.

I usually go to the auto checkout for everything, but by chance it's closed I really don't give a shit. Hell, the people that have to scan it probably feel more awkward.
