#1 reason never to live anywhere near houston: Katrina Refugees now reside there.

My dad has lived all around the world. The middle east, China, south america, the north slope alaska to name a few and worked with all sorts of nationalities that are too many to name. The places he has lived in have been some of the worst conditions you can see in this world. With that stated, he absolutely refuses to move to Houston where his company's HQ is based. He hates the place and the people. He would rather work in a shit hole like China, the frozen isolated tundra of Alaska, the social restriction and desert of the middle east than ever go to this place.

Austin is way greener than Houston. Houston fucking smells. Crime rate, anyone? Riding in/around Austin > Riding in/around Houston. We have Moira. :nee:

Oh.. and 6th street is where it's at, bitches. redflip

I'd go Austin over Houston BUT take what I say with a grain of salt because I've never been to either - a situation I'm hoping to rectify within the next year. :)

I've been working/living in Houston on a temp basis for almost 3 months now. I've lived previously in small town Indiana, Indy, and Fort Lauderdale.

I hate Houston. Houston is like the bad part of Miami with horrible weather.

The traffic is bad.
Even the good parts of town have horrible crime rates.
The roads are crap, I couldn't even imagine riding on them.
Everything is based out of strip malls, even most bars.
Every flippin' HWY is a toll road.

Oh, and did I mention the weather is horrible.

The only people I've met that enjoy this town have only lived in this town (and maybe a college town). I can only assume ignorance is bliss.

On a lighter note, I've heard Austin and San Antonio are nice places to visit. I am looking to pull myself away from work and visit places like the Alamo and the Houston Space center.:pat:

The space center and the battleships are about the only redeeming quality Houston has.

Ok, and there's this nice Japanese garden there that hosts a Japan Festival every year in April.. but aside from that..

Definitely come visit Austin.

I will tell you now though, be prepared to be very disappointed with the Alamo. It's boring and small and no one has visited there without feeling like something was missing. But Ripley's and the Wax Museum are just across the street! (don't trust me though, I grew up in SA and I don't get why anyone ever goes there for pleasure:lol:)

LOL, I don't agree with half those awards. Houston weather sucks IMO, and as far as good economy, that's only because of 2 things: The oil industry, and cheap-ass housing prices compared to other big metro areas. Also a huge portion of Houston is ghetto.

I loved Houston when I grew up there. We lived in a wicked, safe neighborhood with a community pool, playgrounds, green belts, soccer fields.... Had lots of opportunities as kids to have a excellent, safe childhood.

Would I move back there now if given the chance, nope... Not interested.

Urban sprawl has taken over. Rush hour starts before 6 am. There's stop lights everywhere. Crime is pretty impressive and growing up there it was just something you came to expect/accept.

Riding would suck in comparo to where I live now.

I miss a couple things about Texas, but as I grow older, am preggers, big cities aren't as appealing to me.

I still think Houston/Texas is an awesome place. Lots of amazing people. culture, food, even land scape. But I did it for 17 years. Time to move on :)

I dont think I could live in a place like Houston. I grew up in a small town, and ive grown pretty used to driving 30 minutes for a coffee, because inconveniences like that also allow hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, etc etc right in my back yard.

I love smaller cities like Moncton and Halifax, but i hated places like Edmonton and Toronto.

Plus, the best thing about Houston left when she got out of highschool :p

How about reasons not to live in Houston?

1. Everyone talks like Hank Hill.
