Now that I have you attention........ :D

Really though. I've been thinking about selling/trading my bike for a different one. It just seems that after riding it for an extended period of time that it really drains me to no extent. I have never had a bike that did this and I am to the point that I cannot take it anymore. I really think it's the riding posture and handle bars.

I wanted a Suzuki Marauder when I got this bike but couldn't find one that I liked. I'm thinking now that maybe the Marauder isn't what I want, but something along those lines. :idk: Help me decide on a particular bike, or atleast style as I am pretty sure that this is going to happen and I don't want to get something that is not worth the steel and aluminum it's made out of. :sorry:

I can just see myself on something like this.

(I'm going to get ragged about this I'm sure but it's just not for me to have this bike right now I guess)

It's your money get what you want, screw what anyone says. What type of riding do you want to do is perhaps the first question you should answer? Nothing wrong with a cruiser at all. You could look into some of the more upright bikes.

If you want to get the most for your 929, part the thing out. I parted mine out last summer with 69,928 miles on it, a busted motor and rash on every single piece of plastic. Still made $3,400 parting it out. Judging from the fact yours is running and doesn't look like someone put it through a shredder, I'm sure you'll get substantially more.

Unlike the GSXR's, there's a limited amount of parts available for 929's so they go for good money.

If you don't feel like dealing with parting it out, let me know what you want for it. :)

As far as the 929...I'm with ya. I don't think a bike EVER rode and handled so well but made so miserable as the one I had. I would hurt for hours after a morning or afternoon on that thing.

I still think the new Sportster Xr would make a great all-around bike......

It wasn't the bars....the tank splays your legs, the pegs are wayyyyy to high and you have to fold your legs up so much your knees are stressed to the max............

The 900 didn't have so radical a riding position.....

The 900 didn't have so radical a riding position.....You definitely don't want a 1000RR then! Took me a while to get used to having so much weight on my wrists when riding it because it's pitched much farther forward than the 929.

Ive ridden the 929 and yes the body position is much sportier, but helibars go a long way in seating you more upright

I don't think I could bring myself to part this bike out for any reason. Now if I happen to crash it.......that's another story totally. I also think that my asking price for it would be more than what most would want to pay for an '01 bike, but I feel that it's a pretty fair price considering what they are/were and can do. This one has a new battery, fresh oil and filter, new plugs, new fuel pressure reg., new tires, new tinted screen, front flush mounts, rear aftermarket blinkers, Scorpion slipon, braided/stainless brake hoses front and rear, 5400 miles and about as clean as could be asked for. Yamerhaw has seen it and I am sure that he can attest to how nice it is. It's not perfect, but it's so damn close that you can taste it. lol I don't want to give up the power of this beast, but I mostly commute with it and it's just not easy on me for that. I totally agree with OTB, this thing rides and handles like a dream but just hurts me when I am off it for the day. I honestly think it's more me than the bike, but the bars could be the deciding factor. :idk:
I just like to get out and ride better than anything I can think of, next to sex. :D :D This bike is meant for more than just riding, or atleast the riding that I do.

I do like the looks of that HD and having a belt is something else that turns me on. :D

I'll keep the heli bars in mind derf. I'm not totally committed to selling out just yet but I have to do something different before I get to that point. I'm not saying I wouldn't sell it for the right price, as everything I have is for sale for the right price. ;)

I think it's out of my price range. To be honest, I'm looking to spend what I get out of the 929, or simply swap straight up for something. I've got to many irons in the fire right now to be spending out any on this venture.

I don't know what the market is like down your way...but up here a decent 929 will bring 4500-5000 with 18-25000 miles on it. A nice example with low miles like yours should draw 52-5700 with the right buyer.

That's just it. I'm a speed-a-holic. I admit that much. The faster the bike/car will go, the more I want. :panic: I don't need that but at the same time, don't want to give up a "sport bike." Maybe I just need to put some bars on it before I try to sell it? What could it hurt? Just be something else to add to the list when I decide I don't want it. I need to take a trip to a real bike superstore like a Chapparel and try some different bikes on for size. Kind of sucks that we simply don't get the chance to ride many different types of bikes before we are set on one.

Look into the Yamaha FZ1, it's motor is based off the R1 but it has a more upright position for the rider.

Just googled them and I do remember them now. ;) That wouldn't be too bad. I like the looks of a fighter a lot. To the point that I would almost look for a specific wrecked bike to fighter myself. There's a guy up here that has a CBR900 that he fightered and it's just plain awesome. It's got a nice set of Renthal bars on it that I know would have to be sooooo comfy. It's his all around everyday rider. He's a very well seasoned rider and is into motards and has like 7 bikes of various makes and models. I can't help but drool a little everytime I see that 900.

Dunno what you're used to, but the 929 has a relaxed riding position compared to today's sportbikes. The pegs are lower and more forward than like a ZX10 or Gixxer. Everything has gotten more aggressive since then.

I don't know if you need dealer support or if there is a dealer near you but a Triumph Speed Triple might be worth looking in to. They are supposed to be fast with a more laid back riding position than a sportbike, plus the triple with an exhaust is supposed to sound awesome.

Yea a triple with a pipe has a sound second to none!

Ok I'm gonna say something kinda mean but it pertained to me a few years ago... Maybe, you should start doing some sit-ups and other exercises to strengthen your abs and back. Truth to be told, if you're having wrist problems it's because you're not using your ab muscles to hold yourself upright like you should. When I went from my V-Max to my FZR1000, my wrists were fucking killing me! Until I learned to use my abs to hold me up, riding my bike was torture. With a little self discipline and control, I no longer have that problem and I am 6'4" AND have my bike lowered 8mm in the front and raised 6mm in the rear. Besides, if you learn to keep a "light touch" on the bars you'll be a better rider anyway! Also, you may want to try Stompgrips. A lot of people don't like them but they allow me to not have to squeeze the tank so hard to keep from sliding forward during braking which lessens the strain on my knees and thighs. I hope that you don't take offense but these are just suggestions.

You're spot on Tig. I'm a fat lazy bastard and I need to work out but at the same time, I have a bad knee and even worse foot problems (gout is one thing that I have as well as working on concrete for the last 15 years). I simply don't have the desire to do much more than sit on the couch when I come home in the evenings as I need to put my hurting ass feet up for some comfort. :( I don't take what you said as offensive, I know I'm fat and lazy! :D

Cool! I honestly wasn't trying to be an asshole (for once!). Well, of course it's up to you but I still think you might end up regretting it if you give it up... Hey, something that helped me was isometrics. I drive around in a truck for 6 out of 8 hours so I feel your pain. While you're laying on the couch flex your ab muscles. Um there are different types of movements you're supposed to do. You can google it, there's a TON of stuff on it.

I did see a cool set of grips on their site that add in a wrist relief for the throttle. May be something else to look into for me.

I had the Zuk for 5 years I think. I like the Buell. Check that...I love the Buell. However, my back and knees suck. The XBike will be paid off in another 12 months. So we'll see what happens. I'll probly start looking for a new bike in 1 or 2 years.

You know what.......I've just about decided to keep the 929 and look for a stock seat to have redone the way I want it (Read: more cushion) and replace the clip ons. I just don't want to give up that amount of road killing power and torque. It's a breeze to run with traffic and pass without even taking your left hand off your thigh. :rockout: :pat: I'll do some mods to it before I think about letting it go again. Then again, I did price it today. One of my buddies called me asking about it and said that he had a guy call and ask if he knew where one was. He said that he knew of mine and that he thought I wanted to sell it. I'll put it this way........I priced it where if he wants it, he's going to pay for it. :diitb:

Zukimon, you could look into the sargeant seat, or corbin as well. Although going with a modified stocker with added cushion may be cheaper.:idk

Just add that seat and some heli bars, and get to working out a bit like Tigger suggested and you are golden.

ZUKIMON
04-22-2009, 08:06 AM
I've thought about Corbin but I like the idea of stock looks where you can get away with it. If the seats stock, when someone sits on it they will think that I did nothing, when in reality I did something great.

:idk: I may just get an aftermarket but I hate buying before trying. (it's kind of like marriage :D)

Need a seat guy? Could have him do a poly or gel insert in your stock seat.

He does mostly high end custom seat designs for choppers/hd, but allot of them get padding changes as well. Tell him I sent ya.

Go to the fabric store.

Buy a piece of vinyl. (They have assorted patterns btw)

Buy a piece of memory foam.

Borrow an electric staple gun. (I did mine at a shoe shop)

Kiss your hemorrhoids goodbye.

Or buy one of those seat pads like Ebbs has.

I've got a guy that runs his own place above my house. He did my Katana seat for me for $20 WOW!! That was a complete recover with no foam work. I figure that I could get him to recover a 929 seat with different padding for less than $50. That would be just fine with me.
