Hey Computer Nerds I Need Advice!

Okay it seems that Rae is always right and there's no way I'm dragging my 17" Dell to the rally! I packed it in the backpack and rode with it today and it fucking sucked! So I am looking into getting an inexpensive netbook. Any ideas or recommendations ? For the record, I'm only going to use it for basic crap like downloading our video and pictures at the rally, I already have enough computers at home. Thanks for your help. Oh btw I've seen a linux based dell on clearance for under $200 with a 32G hard drive and 1G of memory...that sound okay?

I've been wanting to get one of the mini's. like 9" screen, SSD for taking on trips. much easier than taking the bigger laptop.

Yea it's funny how this keeps happening... first I go out and buy the biggest, greatest whatever and then I buy something A LOT smaller and easier to use... How about Linux though? Will I have problems moving things to my main computer when I get home?

If someone has a laptop with some sort of wireless card from Verizon/AT&T/etc you could load it up on their puter and email it to yourself or putfile.

I was looking at the XP ones. Every few weeks they drop the price on the XP ones to like $225. I'm in the same boat, I have a 17" dell notebook too, but the thing is friggin huge. I would be much happier with a handful of thumb drives and a 10" netbook.

Well,if you didn't notice Radio Shack/ Att have a special going on with an Acer Netbook that has a 160G hard drive and a 1G ram. It's pretty sweet but you have to sign up with Att for 2 year to get it for $80. Att wireless internet is $60 and I pay $30/month now. It would be worth it IF Att's internet is as fast and reliable as my cable is now but I have my doubts.

Its the older version (non-atom cpu) but I'm sure it'll do for me.

Woot has had them on 3 times in the past two months.

Yea I noticed it was a little light but as you said it would work for what I want. I don't know, I can get a MSI Wind for about $300 with a huge HD, dual core 1G DDR, blue tooth, 10" screen, etc...

Once I get mine I'll mod it. People said you can take out the 4gb SSD card and install a 16 SDD card for aroun $50. The ram can be upgraded to a 2gb stick. It also has a SD card slot.


I believe it has 3 usb slots. People have been cracking the thing apart and soldering (with wire) a usb drive to any of the usb ports for it to act like a harddrive. You just cant stick anything into the usb slot (so cover it).
