The goodies have been assembled, now I just need to make time to crack open the case. This will be my first major engine overhaul.

I am going to take pics like mad. Basically I blew my fiddy motor up before the last race and I have never rebuilt a motor. I am going to attempt to rebuild the fiddy motor because it's a very small motor and suppose to be really easy to work on, plus it's a cheap motor to learn on.

It should be easy enough. There isn't much to single cylinder engines. GL with the rebuild.

Well I finally decided to start in on this thing.

So I stripped the bike a month or two ago in preparation

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/50/IMG_6509.jpg

I had a nice surprise waiting for me in the exhaust, I wonder where all that metal came from (Anyone know how to clean an exhaust pipe so I can reuse it?)

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/50/IMG_6510.jpg

So I started in on the engine, hello there mr. inner rotor. I have no idea how to install you properly for timing when I get you off.

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/50/IMG_6507.jpg

Hmmm, whats down this hole, looks like more metal

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/50/IMG_6511.jpg

Wow, mr spark plug doesn't look so happy

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/50/IMG_6513.jpg

Started pulling more stuff off

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/50/IMG_6514.jpg

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/50/IMG_6515.jpg

Let's remove the head cap, why hello there mr melted engine pieces

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/50/IMG_6516.jpg

Then I removed the head and cylinder and found mr piston not doing so well on the compression part of the job.

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w89/reactortrip/50/IMG_6519.jpg

That's all I got so far, probably will start getting into the case tomorrow.

*Ring....ring* "Good Morning, Joe's small engine repair, how can I help you?"

"Hi my name is Nick and I grenaded my pit bike's 50cc motor. I thought that I could fix it myself but $400 and 123 hours later..."

"No problem sir, just box it up and bring all the pieces in, we get this all the time!"

Well, I can't tell from the stack of boxes what you have and don't have for it yet, but I can tell ya from the pics you're gonna need a piston/cylinder, new head, and bottom end bearings (if not a crank too), bare minimum.

Good luck, that thing is pretty fucking lunched.

...Come to think of it, the top of that rod looks pretty knackered too. Might clean up...

I'll take the exhaust if you let it go for shipping.

If funny how after 30 years these engines have barely changed.

I am keeping the exhaust. Just got to clean it up. Definitely not giving away a FMF pipe for free.

I have a new racehead, cam for the head, new racehead cylinder, crankshaft with bearings and the rod, piston, carb, jets, high flow oil pump, air filter, spark plug, 4 speed transmission, and other parts I can't think of. Only thing I am reusing is the case, some of the bottom end stuff, and the manual clutch kit.

The entire top end is getting replaced that's for sure. I am changing it from a 3 up to a 1 down/3 up. Can't wait to see how the 4th gear will work out.

probably by not grenading your motor from doing laps at the gap.

hey can you fit the 50 on your GS? just strap it on ride up... take the 50 for a spin... then load it back on the GS and head home! LOL

I think I probably could if I took of the passenger seat and secured it to the top box.

funny how after 30 years these engines have barely changed.

Well, the Chinese have knocked this Honda 50 motor off more than anything else out there, so it's become the standard powerplant for so many cheap Chinese bikes...it's become rather ubiquitous at this point...and while the basic design is unchanged, there is so much shit you can buy to hop them up, aftermarket.

If I'm not mistaken, this motor has been popped out as far as 125cc, in some applications.

Bigger 138s I have ridden.

I think there is even a 140 something kit

For sure, when you blow one up, you don't hold back!

I once added up all the mods you can do to a fiddy, and it came out to over $12K

I'd love to have built it, just for giggles. Magazine project, or something (ie: someone else's nickel)...

Hell, it's probably a shitload different now. The best forks are like $1500.

You can pretty much build a fiddy from after market parts alone and just buy the engine case as the only honda part.

I have one with an 88 kit. (Cheater kit, the cylinder still says 49cc). :whatwhat:
Still has the semi auto 3 speed tranny, and it runs pretty well. Although a 117 kit and a 4 or 5 speed manual would be awesome...

Hell just a 108 is freakin bad ass. I can't go beyond 88 or I get knocked out of the division I race in and have to compete against some pretty hoped up china bikes and would have to invest a ton into my bike to out run them. The 88 kit is much more competitive and fun, so I am going to stick to that group.

The rules we are under now are pretty lax. Lax as in wheel size (2 flavors, 10 or 12 inch), and max displacement (160cc for 4 strokers, and 65cc for 2 smokers).

12 inch aren't allowed in the 88cc class. It's too much of an advantage. They are allowed in the do what you want class. The 88cc class is the cost efficient class too. Doesn't take much to get them to 88cc and be competitive against anyone.

TB racehead. I know someone that has TB connections, so I can usually get some awesome deals from time to time.
