On an unrelated note, it looks like I may be heading your way for a couple of weeks in July.

I forget... one of the bones right in front of my ankle on the out side... not a horrible break... and yes... i'll ride... fuck I'd ride if they made me stay in a cast... but it's my right foot anyways... so no rear brake

Yeah. See, AF guys are scary. ;)
Ebbs, don't feel bad. I did the same thing many times playing ball in high school and college. That's how I ended up with bone spurs on both ankles. Make sure you behave as much as possible in the short time you have before you leave and take the best care of it that you can manage while on the trip.
Oh, and how are you going to explain the lack of a cast when you go back for your follow up?

Does your splint fit under your boot? If not Id just go to a sporting goods store and see what kind of ankle brace (like the lace up type) they have that will for while you ride.

don't feel too bad dude, we had a guy here dislocate his knee playing hacki-sack (sp?).
Wish I could make it to the rally, but I don't think I can get the RC back together and across both the Pacific and the rest of USA. Heal up quick dude
Mr Lefty

JoJo never thought about that.. good idea... but yeah the splint won't fit... so those lace up braces would be perfect.
lol... nope... no wheelie control... but when there's 13y/o's flash'n ya... there's no such thing as wheelie control
pain is still nill this morning... slept pretty well last night. think I'll be just fine for the ride.

I broke my left foot in a rock and roll accident a few years ago. No cast...just a boot. But the first time I rode, about 3 weeks later, it FUCKING HURT to shift gears.

I wish it was that easy. In fact, we were in the middle of a Rolling Stones cover, Paint It Black, and the crowd was into it. They were jamming hard...ran into me and I fell backwards, tripped over my guitar players foot pedals with my left foot and fell to the ground. I finished the song from the floor. Then got up...and leaned against my bass rig for the rest of the show.

Yea, I had a broken ankle when I hit the 1st deer back in '97 and I rode my bike "street fighter" style with a cast on my right foot. No problem. If you want some advice, I'd leave the cast on until you got to the Gap. It might save you some discomfort.
Mr Lefty
04-30-2009, 11:57 AM
Well to be honest I have 0 pain. Now if I take the splint off and try to walk normal it hurts... But ill b fine on the bike. Gonna pickup one of those lace up braces... And ill be gtg

Damn dude! Are you trying to take yourself out BEFORE the rally?
I have a bum knee and have ridden about 300 or so miles with it. The only time it didn't hurt was when I had my foot on the peg. I couldn't brake nor could I put that foot down. Mounting and dismounting was a bitch because it was swollen and gotten worse with riding so I couldn't hardly move my leg at all. I still rode though.

Between the two of us we might just have enough body parts to ride a bike together. The new name of the rally is the TW annual "cast-off" party.
I'm cutting mine of on tuesday, but, all i can think of using is an angle grinder, what did you use.

I have broken the same bone in my foot (shattered it actually) and I'm here to tell you that taking the cast off and riding on it is not a very smart idea.
I have constant pain in my foot from having a cast come off too early. I have a bone chip and there are days when I can hardly walk. I limp a lot.
Sorry. :( I hope this doesn't happen to you.
Hey it's been a while but can't you still soak them off?
I want to use the bottom half of the cast as a splint for when I'm not on the bike, and I'm hoping they give me a new cast that I can use as support for just my hand when I am on the bike
Mr Lefty
05-01-2009, 10:37 AM
well I hope not... but honestly... if it happens it happens... I feel good enough to ride now... and like I said... I talked to the ER DR. he said i was fine to ride if I got a brace and my boots were as restrictive as I said ( my A* SMX4's ) he said he's not worried about me making the injury worse... as I can't. but more worried about my pain threshold. and right now... VERY VERY minor pain.

just go to Rite Aid or Walgreens or something and get a brace with a rigid insert that you can velcro on and off...

try talk'n to tommy... see if he can grab some of the splint material and bring it with him... the stuff I got was just cast material wrapped in cotton... they soaked it in warm water and applied it to my foot to harden. as long as he kept it dry or sealed prior to getting to the rally... we could fit it there with a couple ace bandages...
I'm going to the docs on tuesday and I am going to tell them my master plan, see if they cant hook me up

even better... ask them for the splint stuff... see if they'll make you one and give you another in case this one gets wet and gets all fucked up.
good luck!
