drove to new jersey and put a down payment on a 1969 pontiac lemans. got a 350, everything is primered right now and when i take it home on the 14th it's going straight to the paint booth for a nice coat of tuxedo black.

Ah, beautiful orphan you have there...congrats on the adoption.

I have a soft spot for GM A bodies...although I'm a chevelle man, I still think that's one of the prettiest A bodies ever made.

Nice score! Good luck with her.

i've always loved chevelles too but this was the right price at the right time (just won a longstanding bet) and even though it's not running a 455. it will still do what i need it to.

Is the shop doing body work or just gonna throw some color on it? You can do a lot with some hand tools and body shims, from the pics...looks like they left the shimming for later.

Dragonpaco

they're just doing the color. when it comes to cars i'm pretty stupid so i dont want to do something that i will later regret

That will be a nice ride in Black. The 65' & 67' GTO are on my short list if I ever win the lottery.

The last old car I had was a 67' Dodge Coronet 500 2dr Ht w/383HP & 4sd.

Nice!
The good thing about the 350 is that it's like the Ruger 10/22... more aftermarket hop-ups for it than just about any other platform on earth.

How's the interior?

Dragonpaco
05-02-2009, 07:04 PM
interior is ok, door panels are off but it comes with replacements, headliner is drooping a little but it's to be expected for a 40 year old car. leather is cracked on the bucket seats and the rear bench is pristine, no carpet on the floors which is fine for me because i'm going to put the rhino spray bediner stuff on it so i dont have to worry about cigarette burns on carpet or anything like that. i'm going to do alot with it as i learn so prepare to see pics every couple of months

True, but they're getting more rare and more rusty.
The best examples are getting stupid expensive... especially for something we won't be able to afford to keep on the road in 10 years or so.

Could be liek that doctor in england who died and left a 1937 Bugatti in a garage.

When we go riding upstate we go through many small towns and theres an abundance of old cars on the lawns. I just figure theres got to be a good find in there somewhere. I just dont have the time space or money to restore an old car.

So, are you going to give it the 70's sound effects package?
(squealing tires and beefy exhaust)

Dragonpaco
05-03-2009, 01:52 PM
it already has a cherry bomb exhaust system and the tires will happen when they happen

Nice ride.
Money pit they can be though. I know I have a lot that I would love to do to mine, but other things keep being put up to a priority.

Am I the only one who cringed at the thought of rino-lining on the floor instead of carpeting? IMHO if the metal is in as good of shape as it looks, it'd be a crime to deface it like that.....

That thing could use some TLC but it has gobs of potential. Congrats on the car.

His reasoning for it is pretty sound, but 'sound' would be my only concern.
Sound insulation... he's gonna have none.
Easy fix for that, though... loud stereo ftw. :dthumb:

:iagree: It would take more time and $$ than I'd be willing to put in to it but when finished...could be something special. Congrats.

My sister had an older Tempest, the square-cut one before all the curves started coming out.

Dragonpaco

the square tempests are nice and are on my list of approved cages but the curves of the 68-72 make me feel all warm in my special happy place

I had a '66 Tempest that I brought my son home in when he was born. Funny years later we went to a car show and he picked a '66 Tempest as his favorite even though he never knew I had one. Even was the same color. Ah the things we give up for kids. Still miss that one now and then but this year is his big 18 and dad is looking for a car so I can say gave up my kid for the car this time. LOL

Just kidding for anyone dialing social services already. I'll still feed him but those luxury items he's come to enjoy.......yeah he's about to find out what they cost. LOL

BUT you know if she was your woman that would also mean you were never getting that whole other ride thing again after a statement like that. LOL

well i went down there to pick it up drove it 10 miles which felt like a fucking dream. got pulled over by a cop and now the fucking thing is impounded until i go down there tommorrow. FML

wildchild
05-08-2009, 08:19 AM
What?!! what did you do to get impounded?

Dragonpaco
05-08-2009, 03:46 PM
let just say it involved license plates that werent on the up and up, tail and brake lights that didnt exactly work and a cop who had no sense of humor. i'm getting the fucking thing towed back to PA and as soon as it crosses the boarder i'm driving the fuck out of it

Dragonpaco
05-09-2009, 12:29 AM
update: i've now had it back for a few hours i drove it a few miles and i need to tune the carb and get some new brake shoes on it and put an exhaust on it because the muffler ends right under the driver's seat and breathing gets kind of diffcult after 15 minutes and i fixed the brake light and the turn signals on the right side. this is going to prove to be quite the fun project
