I got fired from my second job the other night. I was supposed to work every night this weekend, now I have the whole weekend off. I'll fuck off the next couple of days, then go to work at Papa John's or something. Glad not to be working for that manager anymore.

From Wing Zone? ehh fuck'm... every Pizza and Wing joint around base is hurting for drivers... if I didn't work as much as I do I'd hit it up

Yeah, My second job I worked for Wing Zone delivering. Our manager and I didn't get along, basically since I had no respect for her. Well Friday night, my first day back after the rally, when I came in to close there was an extra person staying late. When I went to cash out the kid running the shift he said I owed more than I did. I always have my money added up before the end of the night since this kid (and a few managers before him) have ripped me off before. I counted out my money and handed him the rest and the kid started to argue with me, I told him I counted my stuff out right and that he should run it again. He said I could give him the rest or never come back, and I said ok, so I got fired. Funny thing is the difference ended up being 56 cents. I didn't find out until later, and I still probably wouldn't have given it to him, but even if I had it wouldn't have mettered, they'd have found another reason. So tomorrow I'll go hire on at Papa John's or Pizza Hut or one of the other places. It was a minimum wage job at a place that'll be out of business if things don't turn around, but I'm pretty impressed by the manager. She's in her thirties and doesn't have the stones to fire me directly even though she hates me, so she hides behind a 21 year old kid. Pretty pathetic.

Doesn't the military pay enough so that you don't have to get a min. wage 2nd job?

Not really dude. The pay is pretty good and if I was single it would be awesome, but I have a family and a mortgage to pay for, and the military paycheck doesn't stretch that far. Plus, I pay all the bills, so if we want nice things like going out to eat or a better cell phone plan, or my bike, I'm throwing down with the two jobs.

sounds like you're the kind of person who would rather pay for something outright rather than racking up a ton of CC debt

Good on you

It primarily depends on your rank and time in service. A Lieutenant Colonel with 20 years makes a lot more than a Staff Sergeant with 20 years (around $3,370 per month vs. around $7,700 per month). I believe they also get quite a bit more for living expenses. Certain specialties also have additional pay (linguist, hazardous duty, etc.).

$250K would barely get you a townhome here.

and thats why CA sucks. his house is prolly ~4400-4500 sq ft

still don't know how somebody making $100k can afford a $250k, but oh well, he's a good neighbor.

he trains spec. ops people for something.

Don't forget, they also get a housing allowance. A Lieutenant Colonel with dependents would get around $2,300 per month (tax free) in the Houston area. A Staff Sergeant with dependents would get a bit under $1,800.

It's a damn shame when someone like you, who is protecting our freedoms and rights, can't get enough money from the Gov. to not have to work a second job. I don't care if you are a grunt or a damn Colonel, that shits just wrong.....

I salute you sir.

ah, now it makes sense, he can get a housing allowance, that almost pays for the big house, and keep a small apt. near the base.

That's pretty much what it is. I went to the rally with a few hundred bucks, I just saved the second job money for a few weeks. I'm cheap and don't like owing money.

Zuk, I didn't join to get rich, and the pay scale is out there for anyone to see. It does suck that a single lieutenant gets more in BAH to pay for his one bedroom apartment than I do to pay for my house with my two dependents in it, but I could go to college and become a douchebag if it really bothered me.

I am calling bs, a home of that size costing only 250K..........This is Houston we're talking about, not Lubbock or some podunk town like that. Unless this is a ghetto part of Houston ---but I thought you were in a good part?

Also, how do you figure a guy making $100K can't afford a $250K house? Shit, he could buy a $400-500K house if he wanted, depending on his credit and how much he puts down.

The good parts of Houston are 15-25 miles away from the center of the city. They are still part of Houston though. There are plenty available that size for that price or less in the Houston area.

Even if you have no credit card debt, car payment, or any other required payment, FHA doesn't want you to buy more than $310k worth of house with a $100k income. I don't know this individual's situation but I suspect with an apartment close to base he has monthly expenses. I'm actually happy to hear about someone not spending every possible penny on a house.
