The weather is finally getting better, I have a free weekend that I can roll out, so there it is.

This Saturday, May 23, if anybody is feeling adventurous, come meet me for lunch at Dyer's Burgers located at 205 Beale Street in Memphis.

I'll be leaving here around 5am, getting into Memphis approximately 7 hours and 480 miles later. An hour or so for lunch, and I'll be back home by 9pm or so. Not a bad day's ride on the Busa.

Anybody up for it? I know there were a few maybes before, so if schedules work out, I'll see ya there. :D

What type of tires you running and what kind of mileage you getting from them?
How many miles are you getting on a tank of gas?

Ok back to topic, I wish I could but there's no way this weekend.

I normally run Michelin Pilot Roads. I get around 11k per set on average.

If I'm easy on the throttle (freakin' hard to do BTW on a Busa!) I can eek out about 225 from a tank. In reality though, I start looking for a station around 175 and the light usually isn't on yet.

 I tell ya what, after doing an Iron Butt or two, I came to the realization that there wasn't anywhere in the US I couldn't be in 2 days if I put my mind to it. Hmm. It *is* a three day weekend, that's almost enough time to go to Maine for some New England Clam Chowder. Again. :D

Memphis is a really great place to have lunch. The 491 miles and approximately 8 hour ride might keep me firmly on my couch though!

567 miles one way....give or take. It's tempting...I'll call my best riding friend and see if he wants to give it a go.

By the way, I'm still waiting for lunch in Bricktown...when are we gonna make that happen, eh? :D

Even though it's not quite 300 miles from me and I'd LOVE to go, I doubt work is going to give me the day off, especially on our busiest of days (Saturday). Sorry, Trace....I can't make this one. :(

I'll be riding up into Birmingham to check out the Barbers museum that day. Sounds like fun though.

I really wish my aprilia got more then 115 miles per tank. I hate stopping so much.

This Saturday, May 23, if anybody is feeling adventurous, come meet me for lunch at Dyer's Burgers located at 205 Beale Street in Memphis.

http://www.twowheelfix.com/%5BIMG%5Dhttp://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s85/kerry_129/Maps/BviewtoBealeSt.jpg%5B/IMG%5DHmmm. It occurs to me that I haven't seen the big old 1918-vintage house where I formed my first memories as a little kid (good and not so), since I left it around 1977. Seems it's a paltry ~240mi jaunt, a third of it down the serene Natches Trace. And what is this Dyer's Burgers you speak of?? :D
Hmmm....

I'll have a confab w/ Kathy (later) in the morning & we'll figure out if our dirt-biking/camping plans for the rest of the weekend might allow a little side-trip. So much for housework though!

That would be cool!

I'm not sure if you're giving me a hard time about Dyer's or not since you used to live there, but if you haven't heard of it, look here (http://www.dyersonbeale.com/). I saw it on one of the Travel Channel's specials one night, and I decided I wanted to check it out! So now, I have a perfect reason! :D

Looks like the forecast is scattered thunderstorms once I hit Arkansas. Yay me!

A good night's rest and I'll be on my way!

Ok gang I'm home finally! What a day!

I got to meet Kerry and Kathy, both very cool people!

We had Dyer's Burgers for lunch, which was quite tasty!

I got my Tennessee state line picture. That puts me at 47 states visited by way of motorcycle. :D

Today's stats:

17-1/2 hours total time
14-1/2 of which was riding time, and a mileage total for today of 1,032 miles. :rockwoot:

And without further adieu, I am going to bed!

Great meeting & grabbing chow with you today, Tracy!

We rolled in ~7pm, after rolling around Memphis a bit & then flat-tracking up 40 back to Nashville.

Hopefully you already made it back safe & sound, or will be any minute. That was a fairly long day for us @ nearly 500 miles - but doing 1k for a burger, fries & a shake (an over-rated/priced burger & fries at that, I thought - but the shake was pretty tasty!)? You're nutz, dood! :screwy: And I mean that in the best possible way! :dthumb:
EDIT: I see you rolled in and posted while I was cut'n'pastin' - cool, glad to see you made it safely! :)

Without further ado ('cause it's about pass-out-thirty), here's the photographic evidence:

The man, the legend:

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s85/kerry_129/2009-05-23%20Beale%20St%20run/IMG_0163.jpg

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s85/kerry_129/2009-05-23%20Beale%20St%20run/IMG_0167.jpg

Weapons of choice:

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s85/kerry_129/2009-05-23%20Beale%20St%20run/IMG_0168.jpg

The cool old house, built in 1918 & now part of the Central Gardens historic district, which I lived in for a few years as a kid:

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s85/kerry_129/2009-05-23%20Beale%20St%20run/IMG_0172.jpg

Kathy's bike was running a little rough, so we picked up some of the designated Gixxer additive-of-choice to get her home!

Hardly an Iron Butt, but respectable for a burger-run: :rockwoot:

Awesome meeting you Tracy!!! I was tired after 450miles so you are a machine! Our timing was perfect. Right as we rolled through downtown Memphis after getting lost, I see the imfamous aerostitch rider on busa sitting at a traffic light. Beale street was closed off so we did some laps to find parking.
We made a new friend on our walk to Dyer's. Memphis has some of the most persistant bums I have ever seen. I'm surprised he didn't walk right in with us and sit down.

Kerry may not have liked the burger but I thought it was very good. Kinda minced up and extra greasy. I'm from Philly though so I love some good greasy meat sandwiches. I just wish I had gotten the double double cause I was starving by the time I got home.

Great to join you on one of your adventures. Too bad you live so far away. I would love to do more cross country runs on the GSXr. It is a sport touring machine at heart. Keep in touch!

123mph.....Naughty!!!

didn't break 130 so it's all good

question is, what did the gixxer speedo show? I hear the zook speedos are a tad bit optimistic at that point.

Kerry_129
05-26-2009, 06:47 PM
Especially with +2 rear sprocket...
Kathy's with stock gearing reads about 5% high. I have yet to see a sportbike speedo that isn't optimistic by several percent.

(Need to throw on my $30 ebay speedohealer when I do the valve check & p.a.i.r. valve removal soon. :D)

Personally I've never compared the two. I just look at the gps speedo when it's hooked up. I can tell you there is about a 10% error in the 170 mph range the one time I did look.
