Last fall I had an opportunity to demo a 2007 GSXR1000 at a local bike dealer that has holing an open house and bike demos.

Yes the cans are just as ugly in person as they are in the pics. Nothing an after market Yoshi system cant fix. I do have to say the GSXR is by far the most comfortable as far as SS bikes go. The ergos fit me very well and the seat is at a very comfortable height(Im 5'10" 215lbs). Mirrors are placed so that I can see completely behind me and not my elbows.

So, I fire up the bike. Very smooth idle(As you'd expect from a FI bike). I put it into gear and take off. The first thing I notice is I'm in second gear doing 70 mph and I'm not even close to being in the power band. Finally I hit 7K rpm and the bike starts to take off like a raped ape. Everything I have heard or read says the GSXR has the most low end grunt of any I4 liter bike. As far as I could tell it didnt have much low end grunt at all(Yes the mode switch was in "A"). I never got the bike out of 3rd gear as I was already breaking several speed laws. Took it back to the dealer and went on my merry way.

My conclusion is that while I love the comforts and looks of the bike, it lacked the low end grunt I am looking for. I guess I could go up a couple teeth in the back because I certainly don't need to go 180mph. So for now the GSXR is in my top 3 or 4 bikes to get though.

I came to the realization that I don't need a liter when I was in 3rd and comfortable going triple digits

You have a GSXR750, how do you like the power of that bike? How does it handle compared to the ZX10?

I absolutely love this bike.

Handling is much smoother and almost effortless compared to the 10. Just got thru the first 500 mi break in. Haven't had it much in the power band, yet. I can't wait to get back to Barber on March 15th to see the difference in handling. The big thing I love is that the throttle on the 750 has a much more usable range. On the 10, there was a fine line between not enough gas and breaking the back end loose.

The only reason I got the 750 over the 600 is that my g/f likes to ride w/ me. I was told that I would like the 750 over the 600 for 2 up street riding.

I think there is about 30 lbs difference in the 750 and the 10. It feels like more. It must be the way the weight is distributed.

Overall, just a much better bike for me given my experience and also my size. about 5'6", 170#.

Its the lower center of gravity since the GSXR doesn't have an undertail exhaust. :dthumb:

That could be part of it, but I rode my friend's R1. It has an undertail exhaust, but even it felt much lighter in the front end and handling :idk:

I'll stop bashing the 10 now. You know I am still trying to sell it :?:

Gix 750 FTW!

If you want low end grunt you get a 750 if you want top end and @200mph you get a 1000!!! THE END!

i've rode a buddies 07 1000 and it doesnt pull near as hard as my 05 down low, mine pulls HARD from take off all the way up, i dont know what they did to the 07 and 08's

and if you were only doing 70 in second you wasnt giving it much gas, i've hit 103(indicated) in 1st on my 05, dont remember what it got in 2nd, but i got 151(indicated in 3rd, i've saw videos of guys hitting the 186 limit in 5th

now those speeds are only "indicated" i'm sure the speedos are off some, but i do know the gsxr 1000 will do 185.7 on GPS

i dont know if you've ridden a new 750, but they got the grunt of a 600 unless ya regear them, BUT once they are geared they pull pretty good, i've personally never ridden anything with more grunt than my 1000, cept maybe this one guys zx 10, i think an 05, that thing pulled damn hard

I have an 08 750 and it has plenty of low end grunt. More than the 07 1K had.

i would have to NOT agree with that

I ridden both AND dyno's can lie. I can just tell you what I felt with my butt dyno. It could be because dynos don't take the bike weight into consideration and that's why it felt weaker down low. I know the 1K definitely had a lot more up top. It could also have something to do with the SET vale that the 750/600's have. I know those ad a little extra low end torque.

Either way you're not going to lose on either bike. They both are fantastic rides.

could it be gearing?
